I'm all in on GM right now and love this truck, I agree with those who argue the seats need to be more comfortable, thats certainly noticeable over similar models from other makers... but I don't care enough to change brands. We will see in 5 or 10 years, but for right now it's 100% GM for my money.
I have a 22 1500 3.0 and after some discussion I’ve heard about oil and def usage while towing I thought I’d pay attention to them during my last trip. I towed 2500 miles with a 6k lb travel trailer and these are my results. Used half a quart of oil and 10 gallons of def.
I just purchased a 2024 LTZ and love it so far. Would have liked the 3.0l but they weren’t discounted quite as much so got the 5.3l. It’ll still do everything I need. In Texas, at least near me most dealers have over 100+ silverados and are discounting them heavily. Neither ford or ram are discounting nearly as much and Toyota is Toyota with pricing
Another good review Tim. I had a 2018 F150 Lariat Sport lease and moved to a 2021 Silverado LTZ at lease end. 2 immediate observations. 1) The Silverado just felt like a more substantial vehicle. This was likely partially due to steel vs aluminum panels, but the Silverado just felt more planted. 2) The seats on the Chevy were just not as comfortable as the F150. This was surprising and something that GM needs to address. Oh, one other thing. The F150 had the 2.7 twin turbo engine. Fastest truck I’ve ever owned, but the turbo lag was a concern when pulling out into busy traffic. I don’t have that issue with the 5.3 in the LTZ. Keep up the good work!
I’ve had numerous F-150’s and I have the Silverado LTZ and it’s great! They both are good and really can’t tell a whole lot of difference so either is fine with me. Sometimes just a change in manufacturer is not a bad deal. All good! I have the new Lakeshore blue. It really a pretty color. I get lots of 👍 on it!
There is a fix for the minor oil burning on the LM2. Not an issue on the new LZ0 The def usage is low unless you are towing. 12000 kms and I have added 2 jugs and still have have a tank left. Not towing.
Had one of each of 6.2 and 5.3 both have serious engine issues. Pertaining to lifters. The 6.2 threw a piston out the engine block. My work Chevy Tahoe has a lifter(s) issues now too. When you get the 6.2 you run a greater than normal risk of lifter failure due to DFM, and lately spun bearings on the mains have been occuring. Subscription service for something you already paid for should be criminal. I know we all use Apple Maps or Waze or whatever, but even in a $70k truck you have to maintain a subscription for the built in google maps to work. Now you have to maintain subscription for the super cruise.
The Diesel engine is NOT the STOCK engine in the HIGH Country Silverado. The 5.3 liter engine is the standard engine and the 3 liter diesel and the 6.2 V8 are the optional engines.
Tim, all I know is the 3.0 diesel is DAF. It was designed to fail. The crappy baby diesel has torque like a big V8. GM should have gave it a 100 ft. lbs more torque and then everyone would have wanted one. PS. 22 inch rims are almost as stupid as the 3.0 diesel.
The oil useage in the 3.0 is fixable, their are several parts with faulty welds that are associated with the oil loss. DEF is an easy fix, delete the truck….
Tim I agree with you on the GM seats. I have a Denali diesel. I love everything about it but the seats are horrible!! I am getting rid of mine because the seats are so bad. I hope they make a change in 2025.
We now have a Johnstown, CO Bucies that is much closer to your home. I would love to help you out with making a video. Love the truck too, but they are all overpriced.

I jammed a bread tie under the button inside my AT4. It has been bumped twice and the gate has gone down without me knowing.....not anymore. If they made that button a double push or a push and hold for 3 seconds the problem would be solved. And how about a notification on the dash when it opens??? @@wantsanewvehicle The 6.2L does have it but I will admit it is more "robust" than the 5.3L. I'm aware of this issue because it happened to my Dad's GMC Sierra about two years ago. He only had 138,000'ish miles on it and all of the compenents went on the motor that I described (and some I forgot) and it cost him $7,000 in 2021. I cannot imagine what it costs now with Bidenflation. He did tell me in conversation he was told the 6.2L has the issue but it tends to come later do to as they said the parts being "more robust". I'm assuming it is due to the additional power and torque of the motor. What is really said is my younger brother is driving his family around in the 2001 Suburban we all grew up in that has the 5.3L V8 and has almost 400,000 miles now on it. The 2007-Present 5.3L is a ticking time bomb waiting to happen.
I've driven over 750,000 miles in GM V8's. None of the above has occurred. Even with a fleet of 50+ GM trucks. All have at least over 6000 hours of operation none of these problems have occurred and some in the fleet have been in service since 2007. A few of the Ram and Charger Hemis have wiped camshafts.
It's time for a redesign! I have hated this body style from the beginning and now it's getting long in the tooth. The other problem is that GM has priced themselves out of the market. It's not even a good truck!

6.2 has a lot of issues. I know 3 people that have had issues. 2 of them had lifter problems. The third actually spun a main bearing. All had less than 20k miles.
Not the same oil consumption issue the 3.0L has.
@@cstgx GM just released a customer satisfaction campaign. They're replacing 6.2 engines because oversized lifter bores were causing lifter issues.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I was talking with a neighbor who recently bought a brand new 3500 series Chevy truck with a 6.6 L gas engine. It is currently back at the dealership because of high oil consumption.
I’ll take the dirty diesel handle all day every day, diesel is cheaper than unleaded where I am at, when you factor in premium fuel it’s nearly 2x as expensive to operate a 6.2 vs 3.0 diesel.
I’m tossing around a new truck Silverado with the 6.2 or the tundra non hybrid. You have had both which one did you like better.
id steer clear from the Tundra. Have one now and so many fit and finish issues.
Thanks for the update!
Can’t wait for 25 review of diesel suburban with new tech , new lzo, new seats
I love that truck and only change would be add the diesel.
seats are firm for sure.......have a high country now and owned T1 elevation, RST, LT and it doesn't matter, they all feel same any year between 2019 to current.....run a seat cover cushion problem solved
I would buy another one anyway, best value and they do everything else so so well, just shutting the doors feels solid and sealed....resale value is good as well, its not a perfect truck but GM has best trucks overall imo......they look badass too and afterall you have to like what you see so its important
had 21 Ram Laramie and sold it 4 months later, felt cheap to me, bed way too small and it started to age poorly even after short time......however big fan of 5.7 hemi and the lights/brakes were great.....wouldnt buy another though
am in a 2500 HD but its still same as 1500......
Which seat cover did you go with? Thanks!
@@fit4ya1975 forget but it's like a neoprene cover and run a cushion underneath...I work construction so don't want to tear up leather
Prolly just get away with seat cushion tho....bought it on Amazon
It must be a subjective thing. I've experienced the last 3 generations of RAM seats and the last 4 Generations of GM seat and in every case I found the Rams much harder and less comforable for my but and back. In every case I prefered the GM seat.
I would still take Ram for overall comfort.
Why?? No resale for rams
I love my LM2 Duramax.
Have us as Americans really gotten so lazy we need a tailgate that opens and closes on it own?
lol you’re ram not here. I’d start looking at ones on dealer lots. There has to be one with ram box cheaper then what u order.
Agree. I got rid of my 2020 Denali 2500 Duramax due to the small and hard seats. Hope they change em in the future.
2:42... Bell 412 😍
We now have a Johnstown, CO Bucies that is much closer to your home. I would love to help you out with making a video. Love the truck too, but they are all overpriced.
Im SO glad you mentioned the seats. Silverado's have to worst seats on the market. Love the truck but the seats just suck.
Wow you're getting over twenty miles to the gallon with a 6.2 I have the turbo max 4-cylinder In the max I got was 18 miles to the gallon.
The Silverado 3WT is the better buy.
Try owning one for longer than a year like your typical consumer would. GM's fall short in the long run. Any vehicle is good for the first couple years and up to about 50k miles.
I own a 2024 Trail Boss with the 3.0 Duramax. Love the truck but quality issue's over the last 5 months have been terrible. Going back to Toyota for the next truck.
What kind of issues have you had? Have a 23 tundra and thinking about going back to a Sierra for the same reasons 😂
The lifters have left the chat 💥
Tundra crank bearings have left the chat
I like your videos. I disagree about the tailgate down button at least for GMC upper trims. Over totally useless, do not know anytime needing to open tailgate from inside and in GMC where button is on bottom it gets hit accidentally and opens tailgate and tailgate can get damaged.
I jammed a bread tie under the button inside my AT4. It has been bumped twice and the gate has gone down without me knowing.....not anymore. If they made that button a double push or a push and hold for 3 seconds the problem would be solved.
And how about a notification on the dash when it opens??? There is one for the inner gate but not the big gate.WTF
Totally agree
I like that button better than the stupid all windows down at the same time button…that one is useless to me….i actually use the tailgate down button some times
@@Getusom That is the who farted button! I use it when it's really hot out to do a quick cool down.
@@mr.yamaha2855 yeah. I guess that’s the best reason for having it. Hahahaa
Dont over pay, find a dealer with 10k off
5.3 is base engine.
Ah, they changed that from the last time I looked.
stay away from the 5.3 and 6.2 if you dont want lifter problems
had 3 of em not a single issue......
@@kirkdunn1379 wish I could say the same
@@allroadsawesome I get it, sucks regardless of brand....and they all have problems....just luck of the draw
Buddy had 2 2019-2021 F 150s new and both had tranny/eco boost problems...Ford bought 1 back and other they fixed after numerous tries
I did buy a gas 3/4 ton tho for reliability/capability after those
3.0 duramax or 2.7 turbox max is only thing worth a damn..
5.3 and 6.2 have gotten worse on their lifter failures
All is well until the camshaft fails, lifters fail, O-rings fail, starts burning oil like crazy, all because of that cylinder shutdown bullshit. $7000 later you’re back on the road.
I don't think the 6.2 has cylinder deactivation? If it does (or at least you can with the 5.3) you can easily permanently deactivate that feature.
@@wantsanewvehicleJust search 6.2 L lifter failure and you will see… too many. It’s disgusting that all these manufacturers don’t actually fix major issues in their engines and transmissions.
@@Lq32332dumb comment. The failure rate is less than 3% and that's below the industry average.
It's time for a redesign! I have hated this body style from the beginning and now it's getting long in the tooth. The other problem is that GM has priced themselves out of the market. It's not even a good truck!
80 thousand ??? i would tell GM to shove it
That is a fancy truck to carry crates of chickens amigo
Where tf am I supposed to plug in a radar detector?
I always tap into the rear view mirror harness. You can find a ground, and a switched hot wire, and you're good to go!
It is a nice looking truck, but it's a GM and I'm a Ford guy.
I believe ford has the most quality issues at the moment.
You shouldn't be either, lol.
Life is too short to devote your life to a brand. Go out and try something new man. And at the end of the day, ford could care less about you, just like any other brand so don’t be loyal haha.
@@Cooldibs no loyalty on my end, just pointing out the current state of ford. Most vehicle brands are suffering in the quality side of things right now. However, I think ford is the leading champ. Brand loyalty is for dumbasses. Why give your money to a brand? You should want the best truck, regardless of brand.
@@avidwaterfowler7522I agree 100% I actually meant to reply to @markmiller haha. I love my 2022 f150 5.0!
Way too much technology, we don’t need all that 💩, and do away with that expensive sun roof!!!!
I wouldn’t buy another gas model after I have owned the 3.0L Duramax.
Good looking truck.
But those wheels are FUGLY!
Electric tail gate🚫
I would buy but there are to much money
The Tundra and this Chevy look so much alike.
Wow those dabs are really kicking in huh
Good truck that unfortunately has some of the ugliest factory wheels ever used 😂
Yes, GM usually has good OEM wheels but these are terrible
100% probably that and the seats and possibly the drowsy bose radio kept me from buying
II don't know how, what A, why, whoever, I, time's going, I don't know what made GM. PUT THE SPEEDOMITOR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN. IT'S SUCH A GERMAN THING THAT I DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL. 😢
