One of my favorite thing about Tool songs is that they hit different depending on your mood and current situation of life. Every time I’ve been through drastic life changing events when I finally get back to tool in the new mind set the songs just have a new weight to them. I was adopted into a family where my parents were old enough to be my grandparents, and it was hard to find common ground at times from the age gap. Music was definitely not a place we came together with too often. I had an aunt in her 70s staying with us. I was downstairs listening to this song...and turned it up. Right after it ended, i heard footsteps coming slowly down the stairs. It was my aunt She said "Whatever you were just playing, it was incredible. What is this?" I showed her this song again, and had her listen to this album. It may not have been something she listens to everyday but she was blown away by the sheer beauty of this band's craft. "Finding beauty in the dissonance" as in appreciate arguments as it's still a form of communication otherwise "cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion". Maynard's pen was on a different level. Maynard wrote this about his relationship with his band mates as they were going through a rough patch. Great reaction as always!

This is exactly where my personal Tool journey started in 2001, hearing this song on some now gone FM rock station, and every nerve in my body reacting to it. 'What. . . is. . . this?' my 13 year old mind asked the world. And oh my, did the world deliver.
The look on your face, nearly every transition says...Astonishment, 'how do they just keep doing it, So well, over and over ?' This is food to the Tool Army !
Fantastic reaction and interpretation. I love the lines: “Cold silence has/ a tendency to/ atrophy any/ sense of compassion” Coupled with that soulful melody it resonates deeply.
Believe it or not, it gets so much better. Even after listening to some of these tracks hundreds or thousands of times, I still say to myself, WTF?! How do they do this? How can they make music like this? How can it be this good? And then MJK’s vocals as another instrument? Then the lyrics themselves? Then how they intertwine with the music? 🤯
Parabol/parabola are literally life changing and meant to be listened to together. And the rest of the album is nothing but 10 outta 10s as well..excited for your reactions!
It's such a pleasure to see you going through your future favourite album. And knowing that the other two albums after this are absolutely on the same level. You've got such a journey in front of you.
Loving the way your Tool journey is progressing; it’s clear you ‘get it’. I was lucky enough to see this tour in 2001, right between 911 and my son Derek, going to USAF basic training. Tumultuous and emotional time for all of us. So relevant. What an amazing concert. I’ve listened to Tool non stop ever since. Then, A Perfect Circle as well. Glad you’re taking your trip in chronological order as I believe it’s critical in experiencing Tool’s growth. So far, I’ve seen Tool several times (each tour), and APC. Get thee to a concert!! Cheers! 👍🥰
“Schism" is renowned for its use of uncommon time signatures and the frequency of its meter changes. In one analysis of the song, the song alters meter 47 times. From Wikipedia about the song.
I've been watching Tool Tuesdays, and you have to be my favorite channel reacting to Tool! I'm a new subscriber and I'm here for the rest of the tool journey, and you are in for a hell of a trip!
Aaaaaa we knew you'd love it! Now, you have four incredible songs coming up, so be ready. Just MAKE SURE you do Parabol and Parabola together with no breaks...they are seamless and need to be heard together.
It also shows the pros & cons of apophenia; as great as a strength as it can be to see the forest for the trees, it’s that very pattern recognition that can disconnect us from reality without a compelling and truthful waypoint. Or someone we can trust guiding us through our own darkness. Thank you again for your compelling reviews.
I've said it before, it's a relationship you develop with TOOL, it's a give and take, the guitar the bass the drums Maynard's voice, things they make you feel and ponder over, its just brilliant. This band fills my voids. Your channel is for TOOL fans. Thank you Skullz, I appreciate you.
It's always interesting to hear your take on these songs and the lyrical interpretation. Glad you mentioned Justin. He is front and center in this song and it's probably one of the most iconic bass riffs written. This album is amazing no matter which way you slice it, lyrically, instrumentally, or just from a production aspect. Stack all that up and you have something truly special.
I have been literally listening to this song on repeat. It is such a good song on all levels, lyrically, musically, everything, just so good. Also, I have learned words by listening to this band, Juxtaposed, Cozened, Somniferous, and there are a few others that I forget at this time. Not too often can you say you expanded your vocabulary by listening to 4 guys play music.
Welcome to the world we’ve been waiting for you to join. Such an amazing album. Watching your reaction along side of already knowing how powerful this song is brought tears. Music is power. Thank you for letting me relive this moment.
This reaction is 10 out of 10, you are killin it Skullz! Justin brings so much to Tool evolving, his bass riffs are so complex. See you at Parabol & Parabola, can’t wait!
I wish i was this man, its so nice seeing someone go through the whole tool expirience theres something about that makes me feel warm and happy its such a beautiful journey
It's always nice to see someone discover TOOL. The face changes expression when it is hit by certain waves of sound. This is the reason why it is possible to distinguish false reactions from true ones. When you are hit and understand TOOL's music, you make an expression that cannot be imitated or invented.
As always…..another excellent reaction video from you, Skullz!!! And I actually like your interpretation over the freaking band’s for this song here. I believe that it was Adam Jones ( their guitarist ) who once said that this song ( Schism ) is all about how we ( the actual band ) have stayed together over all of these years!!!
Same reason you could react to Tool multiple times is the same reason it’s so interesting to share your journey. I’m hearing new shit plus you’re catching stuff I missed. Putting it all together is an incredible ride. I know the pieces fit! 😆 Parabol/Parabola is great too. I keep going back to this one. I’d hydrate.
Great stuff man. You are my favorite reviewer of TOOL songs! You just get it. Lateralus is my favorite TOOL album. But I cannot wait until you dive into 10,000 Days. I have said it before: Undertow is all about Angst and Rage. It is the howling of the underdeveloped id. Ænema is about destroying our pasts, our regrets, and our mistakes and beginning to see that something can grow from the ashes. Lateralus is the reflection on where we have been, the process of spiritual, emotional, and mental growth, and overcoming the challenges presented to us. I won't spoil 10,000 Days or Fear Inoculum, but each album is a transcendent experience.
Ahhhh beautiful start to my morning loving every single moment with you lovely skullz you an Tool ...perfect thanks so much love and God bless always x
It's like watching someone discover slowly that, no, there are no errors on this album. The feeling continues till the very last tone. Lateralus IS a 10/10. You'll see.
Here's another way to discover/explore the phenomenon that is TOOL: One of my favorite things to do is find recordings of just the music-only tracks of TOOL songs and try to sing Maynard's part, all the while keeping in mind that Maynard gets his inspiration, writes and records his voice part only after listening to the completed musical score. You get an idea of just how special the music alone is and how different it sounds without the voice. You can appreciate the individual instruments, and also even more realize what a miraculous singer and songwriter Maynard is to imagine how clever you'd have to be to time lyrics with TOOL's crazy poly rhythms. I think we are really dealing with 4 alien life forms. Thank you Skullz, you're killin' it!
I’ve been eagerly anticipating this reaction. This is not only one of my fav TOOL songs but one of my all time favs of any genre. Dude I love your insight into their lyrics, it helps me see these songs from a different angle and I’ve been listening to this stuff for over 20 years haha! Looking forward to more brother.
I´ve been iistening to tool since i was 18 years old, now im 46 and I find in your videos explanations of the lyrics that i never thought about. Im gratefull for that. Thanks a lot. Great video as usual. Patricio from Buenos Aires Argentina. Sorry if my writing has mistakes, Im a native spanish speaker. Good Job. Thanks.-
Your journey has been one of my favorites in discovering TOOL! You're in for so much more greatness in this album and in their following 2 albums that your mind wouldn't even be able to handle it if you knew it all now all at once :)
When I first heard this song I had a sensory overload. I can see it in your reaction as well. At first it was musical then I analyzed the lyrics as you did. Blown away. Cool video bro 👍.
This song is about the band almost breaking up when they came back aftter touring for Aenima. They didn't take a break and we're at each other's throats because they were so tired of being around each other they hadn't talked about Maynard being in A Perfect Circle and so on the 1st day of recording they all walked past the producer and went into a room and hashed things out for a full day. When they came back, they made one of the greatest albums ever recorded and even a song that follows the fibinacci sequence.
As awesome as it is to witness you discover and take in each individual song, there's something beautiful about the way the album flows when listened to entirely...uninterrupted. Another great reaction though, brother. You're in for a treat on the next one! ✌️
@@Skullzrapper hell yeah man. Btw your H. reaction was awesome, got me to follow you. Love what you’re getting out of these TOOL listens. It’s making me rethink what I previously thought about their music.
This album has so much significance to me as it was literally these songs that turned me around during a suicidal binge of self hatred. This album gave me mantras to focus on, and provided the permission to feel, and to grow, and to "spiral out" to a place where I'd never been - a place of self acceptance. This album was a religious experience for me. These tracks, to me, complete 46 and 2.
That's an excellent way to put it man. You do have to know where they've come from to see where they're going. Because the journey of TooL's discography truly is about growth-emotionally, spiritually and musically. As fans, we are along for the ride. Especially those of us that are from the early days of Opiate/ Undertow back in 92-93 edit to add: the soundscapes et al is because for the Lateralus tour (and going forward) General Admission was removed and their concerts became seated only. And they had visuals to go with... and yes the time signatures change, throughout this entire record and is likely any Danny Carey was center stage thereafter
Great great song and awesome reaction!! If you want to dive down a rabbit hole. Look into the squaring off the circle in sacred geometry “The poetry that comes from the squaring off between, and the circling is worth it. Find beauty in the dissonance.”
Thanks for keeping it real Skullz… love the honesty of your reactions. Rick Beato does a great song breakdown of this one (in case you don’t already know) ✊🏼
I was in jr hi school when tool came out and have been a fan since the beginning. I love watching reactions now a days and seeing people fall in love with tool like I did. I am also learning all sorts of new things as folks like you break down the lyrics. Appreciate your analysis brother, keep up the good work.
I can’t wait for the holy trilogy (Disposition/Reflection/Triad) of Tool. We need to convince him to do all three songs in one sitting. Gonna be a long video(50+ mins with input) but the tool army is with you. And we will watch it all.
This album is an absoulute masterpiece and from my point of view they will surpass themselves again in the coming albums. After seeing Tool live for the first time, I had to process what happened for almost a week. xD
The last part, where he repeats "I know the pieces fit"? I hear him soft at first and increasing in volume and intensity with each iteration. Almost, as if he's losing control, he knows he's losing control, and he's desperate to bring it back together. And, the desperation to keep things together causes things to schism even more. Loved the reaction, Skullz. Please, keep them coming. :)
You're so perceptive with your interpretations of Tool's music. You truly listen, and your reactions are a joy to watch. You are so right about needing to listen to these song multiple times to fully appreciate it all. Schism is one on my favorite songs on Lateralus for many reasons. First, it is a bass driven song; Justin really shines! My father and brother are both accomplished bass players, so when I listen to a song for the first time I zero in on the bass with laser focus. Justin Chancellor is just too good! Second, I lost a niece over 20 years ago to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. She was only 4 months old when she passed. My sister would play Lateralus often in her home and my niece was always captivated by "Schism." If she was fussy, it would calm her down. So, I cannot hear " Schism" now without thinking of my sweet niece. I look forward to your next video!
Skullz I've said it before, going to again, your insights are incredible. I knew you were going to love the shit out of this one, and it was great to see your reaction and appreciation for the Cold silence atrophy line, one of the best in music. And you arguably still have the best yet to come in this album! Seriously though, there's a reason why this is considered their Magnum Opus. But don't worry, 10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum are just as incredible for different reasons. Love it 😀
I remember hearing Schism for the first time and the riff fucking blew me away. It was the best riff ive ever heard at that point and is still top 5 for me.

This is exactly where my personal Tool journey started in 2001, hearing this song on some now gone FM rock station, and every nerve in my body reacting to it. 'What. . . is. . . this?' my 13 year old mind asked the world. And oh my, did the world deliver.
This is exactly how it happened for me also, except I was 9. This song stayed with me throughout my entire adolescence.
@@kizznillroy07 Ugh. Then as a tip, 30 isn't. . . Well actually it is as bad as you think it is. Life sucks ass now.
The look on your face, nearly every transition says...Astonishment, 'how do they just keep doing it, So well, over and over ?'
This is food to the Tool Army !
For real! Like.... HOW bro?!? 😂
@@Skullzrapper "Mine is not to question why..."
Fantastic reaction and interpretation.
I love the lines:
“Cold silence has/ a tendency to/ atrophy any/ sense of compassion”
Coupled with that soulful melody it resonates deeply.
I agree 100%! Considering getting a tattoo of a Tool quote and that would be a good one 💯
@@Skullzrapper "we are eternal all this pain is an illusion" 💯🔥
I find the more you listen to Tool the more you find they are perfection.
It's truly incredible! No one is like Tool! 🤘
Parabol/parabola are literally life changing and meant to be listened to together. And the rest of the album is nothing but 10 outta 10s as well..excited for your reactions!
I love this song as do a lot of people, been waiting for this one👍
It's so good! 🔥🔥🔥
It's such a pleasure to see you going through your future favourite album.
And knowing that the other two albums after this are absolutely on the same level.
You've got such a journey in front of you.
Love to hear that! 🤘
Cheers! 👍🥰
I want to see them live so bad 💯 lol
You never find peace ✌ trying to decipher, just... . Let it flow ✨ 😌 🎶 😏 🙌 😎
“Schism" is renowned for its use of uncommon time signatures and the frequency of its meter changes. In one analysis of the song, the song alters meter 47 times. From Wikipedia about the song.
This song in 2002 won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance, and also Schism is in the video game Guitar Hero World Tour. Source: Wikipedia
Lateralus may be my favorite album by ANY artist of all time, it’s just ridiculously good from beginning to end.
I've been watching Tool Tuesdays, and you have to be my favorite channel reacting to Tool! I'm a new subscriber and I'm here for the rest of the tool journey, and you are in for a hell of a trip!
I appreciate that bro! 🤘 Glad to have you with us!
Thanks bro! Having a bad day over here and comments like this lift my spirits. I appreciate you 🤘
It's always interesting to hear your take on these songs and the lyrical interpretation.
This is my favorite tool reaction video, you get it man, you get it
Welcome to the world we’ve been waiting for you to join.
I wish i was this man, its so nice seeing someone go through the whole tool expirience
theres something about that makes me feel warm and happy its such a beautiful journey
It's always nice to see someone discover TOOL. The face changes expression when it is hit by certain waves of sound. This is the reason why it is possible to distinguish false reactions from true ones. When you are hit and understand TOOL's music, you make an expression that cannot be imitated or invented.
Facts! 💯
Love your Tool reactions. Each album gets better and better. Fear Inoculum is one of the best albums ever made.
Same reason you could react to Tool multiple times is the same reason it’s so interesting to share your journey. I’m hearing new shit plus you’re catching stuff I missed. Putting it all together is an incredible ride. I know the pieces fit! 😆
Parabol/Parabola is great too.
Dude...the expressions on your face at the beginning of Schism say it all. I envy you hearing this for the first time. 👍👍
🤘🤘🤘
Ahhhh beautiful start to my morning loving every single moment with you lovely skullz you an Tool ...perfect thanks so much love and God bless always x
Thanks Wendy! Enjoy your day ❤️🤘
@@Skullzrapper thanku beautiful much love and God bless always x
I truly enjoy your raw reactions. I also rather enjoy your interpretation of each song. Thank you 😊
Thank you! 🤘
It's like watching someone discover slowly that, no, there are no errors on this album. The feeling continues till the very last tone. Lateralus IS a 10/10. You'll see.
The next video is the one Ive been waiting on. My personal favorites.
Loved this! I can’t wait for Tuesday! 😃
See you then!🤘
I love it!! I have a new appreciation for this song, hell all of the tool songs you have reacted to! Looking forward to the rest of our tool journey!
Oh that'd be awesome! That's how I write lyrics but man, it would be another beast entirely with those time signatures 😂 Much love 🤘
You are literally the most thoughtful reactor I’ve discovered. I truly enjoy your insights
Good Job. Thanks.-
Your English is perfect! Thank you for the comment Patricio! 🤘
Your journey has been one of my favorites in discovering TOOL! You're in for so much more greatness in this album and in their following 2 albums that your mind wouldn't even be able to handle it if you knew it all now all at once :)
The absolute best reaction to this Masterpiece. New sub, on a safari to watch more of your reactions!! Especially TOOL!!
I appreciate the support 🤘 There's TONS of Tool reactions on here lol
And here we go... onto the best album ever made.
Can't wait til you do Lateralus! Music doesn't get any better, it just doesn't. The Sistine Chapel of rock songs!
I don't want to spoil anything but.....they Never fail !...they don't even diminish
I can't wait for Fear Innoculom.
TOOL THURSDAY !
The time alternates 5/8 and 7/8 the whole way through. That adds up to a more conventional 12/8, but splitting them creates a rhythmic “schism.” 🤙🤙
Yes I caught that in a repeated listen. I bring it up in a future reaction 🤘
Especially those of us that are from the early days of Opiate/ Undertow back in 92-93
edit to add: the soundscapes et al is because for the Lateralus tour (and going forward) General Admission was removed and their concerts became seated only. And they had visuals to go with... and yes the time signatures change, throughout this entire record and is likely any Danny Carey was center stage thereafter
Great great song and awesome reaction!!
If you want to dive down a rabbit hole. Look into the squaring off the circle in sacred geometry
“The poetry that comes from the squaring off between, and the circling is worth it. Find beauty in the dissonance.”
"Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion"
Fucking Bars!!!
Facts! 💯🤘🔥
Thanks for keeping it real Skullz… love the honesty of your reactions. Rick Beato does a great song breakdown of this one (in case you don’t already know) ✊🏼
Never heard of him. I'll have to try and look into him 💯
@@Skullzrapper ruclips.net/video/ScRG40_7zb0/видео.html he has so much knowledge
This is their best album. Enjoy dude. You will play it over and over and over.
I was in jr hi school when tool came out and have been a fan since the beginning. I love watching reactions now a days and seeing people fall in love with tool like I did. I am also learning all sorts of new things as folks like you break down the lyrics. Appreciate your analysis brother, keep up the good work.
Enjoying your journey with TOOL... reminds me of myself about 6yrs ago, when my younger brother introduced me to TOOL.
The emotion that Tool invokes in you is beautiful.
Greatly look forward to Parabol/Parobala next.
Oh yes… I can’t wait too 🎧🛠🌀
Oh man, I am SO excited for what is to come :))))
I can’t wait for the holy trilogy (Disposition/Reflection/Triad) of Tool. We need to convince him to do all three songs in one sitting. Gonna be a long video(50+ mins with input) but the tool army is with you. And we will watch it all.
If I do that, I might need another week to edit it 😂
This album is an absoulute masterpiece and from my point of view they will surpass themselves again in the coming albums. After seeing Tool live for the first time, I had to process what happened for almost a week. xD
I've seen them live like maybe 10 times and I still have to process for a week LOL
@@hunterfitch5951 Then I look forward to hopefully more concerts in Europe. Unfortunately I had the pleasure only once.
Oh, I like that interpretation 💯
I see him trying to ram a square peg into a round hole
😂😂😂
Thank you for saying that! And I'm so sorry to hear that happened 🙏 Much love ❤️
Knocked it out of the part once again big dawg. Beautiful 🤙🏻🌀
I think if I’m not mistaken Mantra is Maynard’s cat distorted lol
Yeah I've seen a few people say that 😹
Laughed so hard when you just bailed XD XD XD Can't wait for next Tues. Glad these vids are getting some traffic my dood!!
Love it 😀
Thank you so much! That line is amazing! 💯 I'm looking forward to doing the Holy Trinity but I'm not looking forward to editing it lol
I remember hearing Schism for the first time and the riff fucking blew me away. It was the best riff ive ever heard at that point and is still top 5 for me.
Absolutely incredible how they operate with continuously changing there time signatures. One of the brilliant aspects of tool
