I never even thought about having a dog. Then one day a very dirty, very hungry stray dog came into the machine shop where I worked. It was end of summer in Arizona and this poor dog looked like he had spent the whole summer out in the 110 degree heat. He was stressed out! I took old Buddy home and over the next 14 years he became the dearest friend I have ever had. He contracted Valley Fever and in the end it took my beautiful friend, but I want to just say if you don't believe in miracles, just rescue a stray dog, and you will have miracle every day.
krr1260 My friend, I truly know what that is. By now, 4 years later, I hope you have found another compadre. That sounds harsh, but you are not replacing your buddy, but giving another pup a chance to be your good pal. Worked for me, and I still mourned my old friends.Best wishes
Walter was the best choice for this number, I just lost my Drifter (canary mastiff on Nov. 16) I still cry every day over her grave, my chair sits next to her resting place so I can go and talk with her every day. He is so right they love us no matter what just as long as they can be with us. I still cry buckets every time I look at her resting place, and wish I was there with her.
northerntraveller -Yours is a very sad story. I realize your position, loss of your dog and condition of your wife. While it is wonderful to know your buddy is nearby and you can visit and talk to her at will, it is also heartbreaking knowing she is in the ground. You will have the desire to want to spent too much time with her, therefore, it will be harder to get over her. I lost my little friend in 2012, but he was cremated. I find it easier to get over him because I know I can't visit him. I had another dog at the time, still have her, but she is getting old and could lose her anytime. I thought about burying her in the backyard, but decided against it, so she too will be cremated. And I lost my wife in 2013, so I know where you are. Life is o.k. when you're young, but can get pretty rough As you get old. I'm 88.
We have had several dogs in our lives and found that they are like our children on a good day, providing love, laughs, joy and companion ship only wanting love in return. We are older now and have decided that we no longer want to bury any more good friends in our pet cemetery so live without the companionship of a good dog.
I love this video. It just makes me bawl buckets-- such a beautiful demonstration of the love shared between a family and their faithful dog. (the part with the "attacking alligator" just kills me--) Whoever put this together has a loving & sensitive soul...
I miss my dog Dolly. I have much to say about what a good girl she was. She was a blue nose pit bull and was over weight she sort of looked like a Shar-Pei. I had her for around 10 years. I don't have any kids or friends or significant others. As we aged we kind of went a little bit down hill. One day about three weeks ago she had a heart attack while I took her on a short walk. She lived a couple of more days, I thought she would be okay. What really hurts is that I didn't have any means to have her go see the vet even though I loved her more than I love myself. I enjoyed taking her for walks. I miss her so much. Much respect from Colorado Springs. Thankyou for the upload. Alfa Mike Foxtrot - I'm glad to be getting out of this place.
A great tribute to man's best friend. Listening to this reminded me of my little buddy, a yorkie, that we lost. I brought a slight tear to my eye. Thanks for the tribute, Walter to a friend.
What a wonderful tribute to your most loyal of friends. They say "The meek shall inherit the earth". I believe the "Meek" are the animals on this planet. They deserve it more than we do.
Get a good dose of the many wild- life videos on RUclips, particularly male zebras biting and stomping new born babies to death, and you may change your mind about the meekness of animals.
God bless all creatures here below. Bullitt, Bandit, Bear, Lulu, Pepper, and Angel. May your dinner bowl be full and run through fields of green grass. You were good friends and I hope to see you again. You are not forgotten.
"In a tiny narrow grave Where the willows softly sway, There engraved on a shingle of pine, Little Buddy, rest in peace, GOD will watch you 'thru the years, 'Cause I told Him in my prayers, That you were mine". Little Buddy by Hank Snow.
i have a border collie my niece gave her to me when the dog was 2yrs old best christmas present ever her name Sophie we are always together theres a poem called RAINBOW HEAVEN lookout up i wonder how it would have sounded with Walter's recitation how could two of you not like this
Dogs, from pedigreed to plain are God's gift to us. I have been blessed from beginning to end by these wonders. I have some now, as a matter of fact, haha.In your travels and experiences, please try to get people to appreciate these wondrous and forgving creatures. Dogs have been my best friends always. They might be His most wondrous creation.
I believe this was a speech used in a closing argument by then lawyer, George Vest in a case where a man shot to death a boy's dog. Vest went on to become a US Senator. He was portrayed by Ronald Reagan on an episode of Death Valley Days depicting this case and ended with this tribute to a dog.
The song was based upon the closing arguments by George Vest in the 1880's civil lawsuit against the defendant for shooting 'Old Drum', a hunting dog owned by Mr. Vest's client. Mr. Vest was a prominent lawyer at the time in Warrensburg, MO and later became a famous U.S. Senator from Missouri. The jury did find the defendant guilty and a settlement was ordered. There is a statute of 'Old Drum' outside of the Johnson County courthouse in Warrensburg with that famous inscription.
WHEN YOU NEED A UNSELFISH FRIEND GET A DOG ALL THEY WANT IS LOVE I HAD 2 WESTIES I HAD TO BURY STILL MISS THEM I CRIED BOTH TIMES NOW I HAVE A BLACK LAB
I just lost my Drifter (Canary Mastiff) November 16th I still cry buckets everyday. I lost the wife in April to a stroke, she is now paralized and institutionalized for lifem I am so alone.
This is taken from Senator George Vest's tribute to the dog in the case of the shooting of Old Drum. Very true, and hard to read without one's eyes misting up and a catch in the throat.

I recently had to bury my best buddy of 12yrs due to cancer. My house feels so empty when I come home from work at night. I miss my friend.

"Buy a pup and your money will buy you love unflinching." (From Kipling's poem, "The Power of the Dog")
You all must realize there is a reason that dog spelled backwards is god. Pretty simple and meaningful.
what a brilliant story teller RIP bet you are still telling those beautiful stories

I've lived too long ; I've been hurt and betrayed by every human I've ever loved , but Dog has never done me wrong
This nice old gentleman was a very funny guy and a great actor. I've seen just about everything he's done
As I listen to this, I look at my dog and think of all my dogs and I know that they were always my truest freinds

My German Shepherd Prince is just like the song says loyal to a fault. He stays so close we call him our '' Four legged shadow''.
I have a Lab/Boxer with the name Prince and he's black too. And also my shadow.

Senator Vest, in 1855....
President Trump needs a dog.
Speach by senator Vest,
Dogs are God's gift, if you don't believe it, just spell God backward.
