Pippin being referred to as "Prince of the Halflings" was technically correct, he was the oldest son of the Thain, and Tooks were the closest thing to royalty that Hobbits had.
I love the scene where Aragorn pronounces judgement upon Beregond. It beautifully handles the consequences of the impossible situation Beregond found himself in when he made the decision to save Faramir.
"The very warmth of my blood seems stolen away" - They gave this line to Gimli in the films when entering the Paths of the Dead. Interesting to see where lines are taken from the book and moved to completely different settings in the films.
Congratulations on the big 1 Million! After falling out of the LOTR fandom around 2015, it was you who had brought me back to this wonderful world of Tolkien. After watching only 2 of your videos, I went out and bought the Silmarillion, and now I’ve read pretty much everything except The History of Middle-earth. Thank you for making these excellent videos that bring people new and old to appreciate and love Tolkien!
Congrats Matt... Now let's go for 2 million.. Well deserved and you'll get your 1 mill subs plaque. It would be nice if the Tolkien Est acknowledge this amazing milestone.
Fantastic work, NotR! Bergond is indeed a wonderful character. Perhaps my (and by extension, my fellow nerds') eyes and ears will soon be blessed with Erkenbrand, my favorite tertiary character.
Just finished watching your video with my breakfast and a cup of coffee as I always do on Saturdays, they does not taste as good without watching your channel. i just want to congratulate you Matt for achieve this fantastic goal 1 million subscribers, I was sure you could do it today, I wrote that yesterday in your post on FB, and I am really glad you did. This is the best Tolkien channel that exists, it really shows the love you have for the works of the professor Tolkien and every video, so glad to see that this great community believes the same as I do that you have done such incredibly great job spreading the most fantastics stories and characters ever written. CONGRATULATIONS NERD OF THE RINGS keep doing the great things you have done, 2 million is the next goal :D
I believe I knew all parts of this story. And yet, the way you told it, feels very much like how Aragon sentenced Beregond, it was conveyed with compassion and honor. Thank you for this excellent story telling.
Im so spoiled by the movies that i completely forgot about Beregond, who is only in the books. I recall the description from him seeing the Nazgul swooping onto the retreating Gondor solders only to have Gandalf appear with an outstretched hand uncloaking his power to save them. Described fantastically in the Return of The King.
An Epic portrait of The Guard of the Citadel, who decided to fight shadow and madness for that which he loved. Something to think about, definitely. Congratsz on the 1M Matt! Well deserved definitely. Looking forward to more adventures of the Dwarven company in Moria as well. If Yoystan doesnt bring down Moria on itself, in the meanwhile xD. Cheers for the content!
We’ve hit ONE MILLION Subscribers!! Join me Thursday night for a special stream and enter the GIVEAWAY! ruclips.net/user/liveQ_IQ7PwTx5w?si=uKMr2e4MTpYWPRH2 Thank you to each and every one of you that has watched and subscribed and made NOTR what it is today!
YAY! Congrats! I remember when I subbed to the channel when you had just under 10,000 subs. Amazing Job getting to this Point! You totally deserve it! :D Keep it up!
I always respected Beregond for this dedication to Faramir but we must muse about the judgment of aragorn and if it was fair for the slain porter. It is a hard take to judge but I do like Beregond and miss him in the movies
Beregond killed the porter AND a couple of Citadel guards to save Faramir. He loved Minas Tirith and was banished from the city for those deeds. But King Elessar tempered his justice with mercy and didn't order Beregond's death. So, although banished, which was a great blow to Beregond's heart, he was put into the service of Faramir as Faramir's captain of the Steward's guard. Beregond knew he had received a great mercy in the midst of justice. Justice tempered with mercy - the hallmarks of the King Elessar.
I was just thinking about kind, brave Beregond the other day, & wished for a NOTR episode about him, & here it is! Thank you so much. Well done. And, Congratulations on One Million subscribers!! 🙏🌿💐🌿😊💚😘🌿💐🌿🙏
I have been a long time subscriber to your channel ever since I discovered it due to my love anything Lord of the rings, another reason is the way you narrate everything it's simply put Pure bliss. Fun fact, I discovered this channel due to my love of anything Tolkien related🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝🧝.Also, Congratulations on your 1 Million subscribers 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Congrats on 1mil subs! I love your lotr videos They are great for refreshing my memory and also learning new stuff The way you make videos is also really engaging
Baragond is an excellent example of how blind loyalty is not true loyalty. Lawful good need not be absolute obedience to law, so much as having a strong moral code.
When you read the book's version of Denethor's demise and you then watch the PJ movie version in the Extended Edition, you can not but wonder why, even in a scene that didn't make the theatrical release, how the character of Gandalf was done so dirty... In the movie's scene, Gandalf is part of Denethor's demise directly and shows none of the pity, sorrow or empathy the book shows, the line "So passes Denethor, son of Ecthelion." rings so hollow compared to the emotive moment beforehand in the book. For all its heights, people don't talk enough about the lows of the PJ movie trilogy, over the years I've begun to especially despise parts of Return of the King for that level of tone-deafness at times. Another example of Gandalf being done dirty is the Witch-King breaking Gandalf's staff, which is also utterly preposterous... Movies never seem to capture what a book can, which is so clearly evident from all the time I spent listening to Nerd of the Rings, thank you for your work!
He was one of my favorite in the minor role who not in movie!!! Beregond and Pippin's friendship is so lovely, and Pippin nearly *because Tolkien nearly wrote him out* died for Beregond!!!
This should not have been left out of Return of the King. And this is why I tell folks reading the books is better than the movies, although the movies were excellent, just too much was left out.
In the Peter Jackson's The Return of the King, according to actor Ian Hughes, he was cast as Beregond, but the character's name was changed to Irolas post-production.
When adapting the books, characters like Beregond serve roles that must go to “more important” recurring ones, so I’m glad his role went to Faramir and Gandalf. It’s already crowded and these “important” characters require more things to do for in the trilogy’s climax.
Lord of the Rings is my favorite thing to ever be conceived in existence ever I like Lord of the Rings more than my life and is the main influence for one of my stories Tolkien did not have to make the lore this massively deep but he did it anyway and what came out was a masterpiece above any other masterpieces
Congrats for 1M subscribers, lets aim for more. And can you do a vid dedicated to Sons of Feanor, all seven of them in a long vid or maybe 2 or 3 parts, because so far I can only see that you had created vids for only 3 of them (Maedhros, Curufin and Maglor) so I'm sure we would like to know about the rest of them too, so maybe a special video dedicated to all them, hopefully you can consider this. And congratulations once again.
His allegiance and independence definitely run in the family bc if memory serves his younger son would be the main character in "A New Shadow " looking at Tolkiens notes but nay,not to be but what Bormor said told me the smell of evil returns,Black Numernorians, necromancer, who knows,my edit, bad grammar
Pippin being referred to as "Prince of the Halflings" was technically correct, he was the oldest son of the Thain, and Tooks were the closest thing to royalty that Hobbits had.
No "fool of a Took" indeed!
Yes, indeed.
I love the scene where Aragorn pronounces judgement upon Beregond. It beautifully handles the consequences of the impossible situation Beregond found himself in when he made the decision to save Faramir.
Beregond's ultimate decision was basically, Screw the rules; I'm doing what's right.
It's also an example of the type of king Aragon would become: balanced and just.
I get choked up every time. 😂😂
One of the great strengths of Tolkien's writing is the compelling tertiary characters like Beregond, Radagast, Bombadil, Hama....
"The very warmth of my blood seems stolen away" - They gave this line to Gimli in the films when entering the Paths of the Dead. Interesting to see where lines are taken from the book and moved to completely different settings in the films.

Congrats on hitting 1 million! And a really good and concise explanation of Beregond's life
Beregond's chapters are some of my favorite. Absolutely love him, so glad you're covering him
I can’t get over how satisfying it is to see 1M next to your channel link! Amazing!!
Congrats on 1M!! I get lost in each of your videos with the amount of detail and commitment you give. Now onto 2M! 🎉
Congrats on 1m! What a wonderful character to bring you over the edge with! Easily a huge fan favorite!

This is one guy I really wish was in the movies too. But at least they gave some of his parts to Faramir and Gandalf, so the essence is there.
Interesting! I just finished Minas Tirith chapter in ROTK and thought I should learn more about this Beregond character. Thanks for this video!
Beregond has always been one of my personal favorite tertiary characters from the book, so this video was such a treat!
Congratulations on 1M subscribers Nerd of the Ring! You deserve it ao much!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I believe I knew all parts of this story. And yet, the way you told it, feels very much like how Aragon sentenced Beregond, it was conveyed with compassion and honor. Thank you for this excellent story telling.

The first Tolkien channel to reach a Mill. Congrats dude
Guys he did it!!! One million subs. Well deserved my friend
I think the best moment in all was Pippin carrying Merry to Minas Tirith
This is one of my favorite parts of the books.
Congratulations to 1 million. I waited all these months for this day, and I’m proud. Thanks for your work. ❤
CONGRATS ON ONE MILLION SUBS MATT! Awesome Video my Friend! :D

Beregond, Imrahil and Halbarad are my favorite tertiary characters in LOTR. Love 'em!
Congrats on the 1 million! You absolutely deserve it. Keep working hard and you’ll get to 2 million in no time!
Congrats on 1 million! I absolutely love these videos. Your channel inspired me to read more Tolkien, and I'm currently rereading ROTK.
I always respected Beregond for this dedication to Faramir but we must muse about the judgment of aragorn and if it was fair for the slain porter. It is a hard take to judge but I do like Beregond and miss him in the movies

As a Took and heir to the status of Thain, Pippin actually *is* the prince of the halflings. :)
I was just thinking
about kind, brave Beregond the other day, & wished for a NOTR episode about him, & here it is! Thank you so much. Well done.
And, Congratulations on One Million subscribers!!
🙏🌿💐🌿😊💚😘🌿💐🌿🙏

PJ's movies are good as movies, but as far as Tolkien's world goes, they're just "advertising". You can only understand Tolkien reading his works.
Thank you for the work that you put into your videos.
Congrats on a million nerd
Congratulations on reaching one million subscribers!
mat. what a lovely vid. now you said something that i didnt know. and im about to watch return of the kings extended
By the way congratulations on 1 millions subs.
Great video, and congratulations on 1 Million!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Nice work dude thanks
He was one of my favorite in the minor role who not in movie!!! Beregond and Pippin's friendship is so lovely, and Pippin nearly *because Tolkien nearly wrote him out* died for Beregond!!!
"That phrase love for his captain" got me 💀
Lovely video!
Congrats on officially getting to 1M
Congratulations on 1 million subs!
Gratz on one million subs!!😀 Deserved!
My favourite characters r pippin Beregond, Faramir & Aragorn. I love your mimicry n story narration ♥️♥️♥️.

Pippin is the best guard of the citadel
Just a quick note: "bier" is pronounced "beer," not "byer."
Great video bro!!
Such a great character.
Yooo congrats on 1mil subs great to see!
Congratulations on 1mil subs! Tolkien
I LOVE Beregond!!!!!
Why artwork feel more well scaled and more alive than cinema scene, one can feel that gravity of the circumstances
I keep hearing Gandalf saying ''Guard of the Citadel indeed.''
Guard of the Citadel indeed.
I missed characters like Beregond and Imrahil in the films.
outstanding piece of content.
My brain is still so caught up in the first age whenever I see Beregund I just think of Baragund, Morwen's father
Congrats on 1 million subs
His allegiance and independence definitely run in the family bc if memory serves his younger son would be the main character in "A New Shadow " looking at Tolkiens notes but nay,not to be but what Bormor said told me the smell of evil returns,Black Numernorians, necromancer, who knows,my edit, bad grammar
9:39 onwards: "We're kicking you upstairs."
Even though Bard is my favorite tertiary character, Beregond is close second.
Great video! Could you do a video telling about the 7 Kings Referenced by Saruman, Who were the 7 Kings?
Beregond was also an amazing character to use in the guardians of middle earth game lol you could dominate with him if used right.
