What the lady said about the GP telling her that she 'couldn't have dyspraxia because she had passed exams' really highlighted the lack of awareness of the condition amongst some doctors.

I loved that someone used the computer analogy! As a dyspraxic person I find myself using computers to contextualise this disability a lot. For instance, if 2 people try to talk to me at the same time, I cannot understand either of them and I am likely to stop being responsive for a few moments until I can get my head back together. This is just like if you were to give a processor that is only good at handling one task at a time 2 tasks instead. It could cause that computer to crash and take a few moments to reboot and get back to normal. However that processor might be brilliant at handling one task at a time and even surpass many other processors at single core tasks!

Hello watched your clip on explaining dyspraxia , I am 33 male and from bc canada that has dyspraxia .
I was 6 when I got diagnosed with the condition. I'm trying to pretty much do same awareness about it, but unfortunately canada mixes up the symtoms and call it something else cuz of lack of knowledge in mental health organizations in canada bc. Dcd is the international name for dyspraxia but it's not the true condition just general term, the specialist is walking into it blindly over in canada bc.

Have you managed to find a job and if so what are you doing and what difficulties do you have?

I'm 46, and I have had several jobs--and I've only ever been fired once--and that was because I wouldn't uh allow my boss to uh.. take certain inappropriate liberties. (Not a good guy...) I think the most uniquely un-dyspraxic job I ever had was my summer job in college--which was (believe it or not!) Lifeguard/Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor.

I could relate to many of these difficulties myself, but I do wish people wouldn't turn everything into a medical condition.
