This game was really special when I was a kid. I played a lot and 100%'d it. That being said it also made me very frustrated at some points. I really liked some of the level soundtracks and the rest were at least tolerable...
2:36 Ironic how, when you say you can complete the levels by just running and spamming the attack button, you show footage of an enemy that can't be killed by your current weapon, to which Flik says "these berries won't work".
when it comes to worst licensed Game, honestly Superman is your man. if someone can show me another game that is worse, that person needs to get a medal
It's not based off a license and it was only released in Europe (English version), but Airboarder 64 is way worse than Superman. Glenn has a review of it and it's way terrible
Did they ever make an Antz video game? But I found The World is not Enough and Mission:Impossible to be pretty dire N64 licenses, especially TWINE as they tried so hard to make it GoldenEye 2, but failed miserably.
+Larry Bundy Jr They did. I saw gameplay footage of it here on YT and it looked like a really bland racing game. I Mission: Impossible is one of the worst movie games for the system.
+Larry Bundy Jr I thought TWINE was really fun. Not Goldeneye but it's special in its own way. I honestly probably played TWINE just as much as I played Perfect Dark. The only other FPS that I really came close to putting the same amount of hours into as Goldeneye was Turok 2.
+M .... However, TWINE on the ps1.. that''s another story... TWINE on the N64 was alright, not GE or Perfect dark, but not horrible. But after playing tomorrow never dies, it was bound to be an upgrade...
+Larry Bundy Jr i actually liked the world is not enough multiplayer more than goldeneye because it had bots to add to the game when you didn't have 4 human players. I liked this so me and my brother could team up agianst the bots so it wouldn't get so heated playing eachother.
Great review Glenn. I had the ps1 and PC versions and they were really fun to play. I don't remember the controls being bad on them either so I'd certainly go for one of those versions
The bosses may be easy once you figure them out, but the challenge here, lies in being able to collect everything while keeping the boss at a distance. Take the first boss for example. Sure you can collect the blue berry and finish him off in 20 sec flat, but since the challenge is not the bosses themselves, but being able to collect everything (since the boss stages comes packed with just as many collectables as the regular stages), the challenge here is to run around the boss, collect what you can, and attack him if he gets too close to knock him back, BUT being careful NOT to kill him before you have acctually collected everything. Again, as you say, you CAN just run through the levels, not collecting anything..... but then why are you playing the game?
Music that isn't licensed from the game, is great for a youtuber like myself. A lot games I have to turn the music off, to keep myself from getting Copyrights, especially Star Wars.
I had (have) it on PS1 and it is my third favorite game on PS after Spyro & Crash. If you loved the movie, then you love this game. Also we didn't have a memory card and would play it all day! I loved Flik's random quotes, and my brother's and I will still reference them as an inside joke. I'm going to get it on the N64 just to see the differences.
Wild to me that I don't remember much of the game (it was hard for me to beat as a small child), but I remember so much of the soundtrack and even some of the voice lines.
Honestly, if you are interested in this game, go for the PS1 version, which lacks many of the issues he points out here, not to mention the music sounds much better.
This was my first N64 game back in the day. And I did enjoy it! It's true that the controls and the camera are awful, but I think that the challenges were nice and the levels were well designed. The last levels are hard, in my opinion. Maybe a kid wouldn't best it without help. Haha
This was the 2nd game I ever owned as a kid after Ocarina of Time. The movie was big at the time and I was young, so the interest was obviously there. I remember enjoying it enough but definitely a step down from Zelda as the 2nd game on my n64!
I think the worst movie licensed game is actually Goldeneye. The reason is because the controls are a bit wonky, there's too many enemies and you die easily, and it can be hard to get used to the controls at times (since I played it as a kid and I didn't even get past the first level). I also think Toy Story 2 is a bad game but only because you need an N64 expansion pack to save your game (I think also the graphics look bad too it makes me think it's a PlayStation port). Why couldn't they just add a save feature in the game where you can just save your game in game without an expansion pack (like they did for other games like Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and more future games on the GameCube like Sunshine, Mansion, Pikmin 1 and 2, etc).
Hmm lets see, I own an N64 and want to play a platformer. Banjo-Kazooie? Banjo-Tooie? Conkers BFD? Donkey Kong 64? Super Mario 64? Glover? Rayman 2? Or...... A Bugs Life. When you list it with its peers, suddenly there seems to be better uses of your time. Haha. Great review as always Glenn. :)
Ihad the ps1 version of this game, and I used to get so sick playing this game, didn't realize as a kid it was just the crap tastic frame rate. I feel enlightened.
What I really hate about this game, it's that I cannot save the game data without an N64 Controller Pak (which I don't have). Seriously, every time I don't use it, I have to start from level 1 all over again !
Worst movie licensed game on the N64. That's actually a tough one. I haven't played the game but I'd have to assume that it would Blue Brothers 2000. When you going to get to that one Glenn? I'm curious.
Ufffff >~< As someone who grew up wth the PC/PS1 version, I cringe to hear how low quality the music is here. I LOVED the soundtrack for this game, but here it sounds like a cheap immitation. Going back to the PS1/PC version (you know... the GOOD version), I loved the animated clips from the movie, I loved the music (didn't care for the movie soundtrack), I loved the colourful and varied levels, I loved how the attack system (the berry throwing) had an upgrade system, and I loved how you main method of progression, the seeds, also had different functions and could also be upgraded via token collecting in ways that actually mattered. I really felt that Travelers Tales had made a classic with this one, and I still do.... but avoid the N64 version... sorry to say.
I remember someone told me how much they liked this game an for me to try it out. So I found it for like 3 bucks an when I tried it I absolutely hated It 😅😂. idk why but I just could not get into this game lol
Worst N64 Movie tie in game? Damn, the worst one I played was probably mission Impossible. it wasn’t rage-quit-terrible, but I found it frustrating and boring.
Blues Brothers 2000 is a fairly mediocre title. I remember it being incredibly short, but between the lackluster levels and finicky camera it was still a tedious slog to get through.
Oh I see. Even so. He did say movie based game which, if you look at it from that perspective, excludes this title. Still though... as someone who owns almost 150 N64 games, I agree with you that Superman is probably the worst game on the system.
+MoreSkyler774 I used to think Superman was the worst the console had to offer. But then I think about Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero. Yah.... nuff said.
I don't think there were "Terrible" movie games on the N64? There were some "Weak" movie games on the console but at the same time we had truly masterpieces based off movies... (well unless your counting superman)
i think its good to have an objective opinion an as a gamereviewer and as someone who enjoyed the acknowledge the flaws that the game has. I reject the claim that the n64 port was worse than the other ports considering it literally had more content as opposed to animated cutscenes from the actual movie for filler. This came out on the original PlayStation and it was the default port people buy.
