Huge fan of the “would you wear this outside of where it’s trending” guideline! When I started splitting my time between a large city and a rural farm, it changed my shopping mindset completely. While I still have some city clothes and some farm clothes (from a functional perspective), I now ask myself, “would I feel comfortable stopping at a gas station on the way to the farm in this?”
Specific branded items as trends always makes me think of the thrasher tee and vans trend of 2016. The image of that shirt + black and white vans + fishnets under ripped light wash jeans triggers my fight or flight response.
A rare big ups to the RUclips algorithm for recommending me this delightful channel. I’m not even a fashion girlie I just love watching fashion videos and I’ve been bingeing this channel
omg i cant believe those wedged sneakers have made a comeback, i remember having them as a teenager in 2012-13 (was shocked later on what i had been thinking back then) and seeing them a couple of years ago in those videos/tiktoks/reels bashing on old ugly trends😭 just before getting something trendy imagine if you’ll (not others, you) make fun of the very same trend in the future
They came back around really quick too. 20 year cycles are really gone. Now we're lucky if we can go 5 before a trend recycles. Which may not be a bad thing but it's interesting because it signals a dearth of new ideas.
I live outside of a very, very small town of like 600 people on a farm in southeast Oklahoma and I wear all of my weird offputting vintage clothes to the dentist or the grocery store or church. And you may ask? Don’t you get stared at? Yes yes, I do. Does your family make fun of you? Yes, yes they do. With my autism and social anxiety somehow I’ve gotten more comfortable and dressing the way that I want to in public. Than I was when I was stuck and not knowing how to dress for myself. All that being said, she makes incredible points. Pay attention.
i think ppl that wear vintage clothing are super cool especially as i'm a big history lover 😭. my favourite fashion period for my personal taste is the mid 90's to early 2000's - in my eyes nothing has topped that era since then !

I used to Love platform sneakers but then hated them but i kind of realised it wasnt the platform but more so the BRIGHT colours. I remember one shoe that had coral, bright blue, neon yellow and green. They really didnt look good. My uncle bought me a platgorm sneaker but with chapagne and gold and honestly they're lovely. Sometimes trends have to just be bent to our liking to be sustainable in our closets.

Very eye opening for me as a older woman that loves mixing masculine and feminine clothes together and finding myself not dressing like I want to because I basically live in a small town and women typically don’t dress like I like to, but if I visit near bye San Francisco I would dress fully the way I want to and not worry about it. Sneakers are a great topic and until you’re video I didn’t think brand meant much to me but I only buy Nike , New balance converse and Vans but I do buy these brands used.

I find it hilarious that something like the Isabel marant wedges, that were once cool and then we decided they were completely hideous! and are now somehow cool again. Just more proof that anything can be stylish if you like it and wear it with confidence so just wear whatever you want folks
I really enjoyed this and I think in general on your channel you do a great job of actually delving into a deeper analysis of why things work and even what it means for something to 'work' in the first place. A lot of videos don't go much deeper than 'i like it' (why?why not?) or 'this doesn't look good' (what does looking good mean?). Really like your stuff, super glad I got recommended it by the algorithm!
You’ve really just solidified my goals of retaining a nice, comfortable wardrobe where I feel confident and sure in everything I own and would have no issue wearing any of the items on any given day, which for me is just a bunch of giant sweaters and straight leg tailored jeans I suppose. rly good point on the isabel marant sneakers, but i do have to say sometimes designer items are just nicer and have better design, less logos and ugly colours (sometimes!). For example I have always hated sambas and a lot of other "slim sole" sneakers, but I have had maison margiela "replica" sneakers for years and liked them pre samba and still wear them now
i finally got a pair of marants a few months ago after wanting them for like 3 years and i love them and i literally wear them all day on my huge college campus where i walk like at least 10k steps a day🙏

But as some one who has always had a strong sense of my personal style but only started consuming fashion content online in the past 2 years, (i know that sounds odd but i swear i just wasnt in the little corner of the internet) The best thing you can do if you are struggling to not be influenced/dont know your own style, is to STOP looking in this corner of the internet. Just totally stop. Its too hard to not be influenced while looking at the influencers.
I remember having such mixed feelings about wedge sneakers in like 2009/2010 but then in 2014 ish I had a really nice pair. They were Nikes, grey white and blue. I wore them with black leggings, a crop top and a jean jacket
those wedged trainers, yikes I feel old (I’m 16). I remember my younger cousin wearing them and running and breaking her ankle, from that moment on they were banned in my family. To this day I’m happy I still hate them, if you see me in them wack some sense into me xx

as for the 'do you like the brand' point, that hasnt been my experience bc i LOVE my asics sneakers, but similarly to salomon they just have *so many* designs for all different types of sports/activites and while i do love my own pair, some of the designs they put out are just UGLY AS SIN to me lol. but i do agree this point works for smaller brands that are currently trendy and/or have one item thats going viral (example - lirika matoshi w the strawberry dress)
Tbh with footwear I think u r right, it’s a bit different bc if you are buying sports footwear (like ASICS or salomons etc) some of their items will be more directed at everyday wear and others will be more directed to high performance in sports , the ones for us normal folk lol are probably made with more aesthetics in mind than the ones made for athletes ,, idk lol

I mean, it's so obvious that anything that you buy because of the brand is a waste. The same goes for trends. To someone with a consistent style, the rule is simple: Can you see yourself wearing that in 5 years? If not, let it go and use that money to travel instead.
