    Funny seeing a tool I own on your channel for a change. I am not a knife maker but I dabble in metalworking. I found you channel a long time back looking for tips on sharpening and shaping cutting edges for wood turning. Now I am watching you use woodturning tools for knifemaking.

    Very cool for roughly center on square stock!
    When i need to drill center in handles I use a four jaw chuck that works the same as a normal three jaw one. All four jaws move at the same time, not individually like four jaws usually do.

    Oh hey, thanks so much for the shout out!! That's a great looking chuck for that purpose! Blocks being jointed square doesn't hurt anything 😁. Definitely want to add a lathe to the arsenal.

    That certainly came in really close to centre, well measuring by across a screen, as you said parallel would be great and little work to true it up from there

      Hahahaha, I always (kind of) feel bad showing some of this stuff because I don’t want to always encourage people to spend their money. But, it is saves time and money, it’s worth it in the long run. Cheers👍

    Just curious would you go straight to the 1/2 inch bit or start small and work up? Maybe eliminate the chance of the wood breaking?

    I haven’t watched the video yet I’m only 1.5 minutes in but a good way to do it on the drill press is to tack weld a center of sorts to something that you can clamp to the drill press table, put your drill in the chuck line the center up and put a center mark on the bottom of the handle and set it on the center jig you made and it will be perfect every time

      @@Simplelittlelife and if your tang tapers you just leave the bottom on the center and pivot the top to make how ever long of a slot that you need and you get a tapered blind hole

    Where do you get a bench top like that? With grid

  • @MrMarsBlades
    @MrMarsBlades 2 года назад

    Nice, of course this will only work if you have spent time making sure the block is perfectly square, thanks Jezza

    • @TheBigburcie
      @TheBigburcie 2 года назад +1

      It doesn't have to be perfectly square. Close to square is probably enough. If you blank has a big taper or bend, additional measures will have to be taken. I do pen work so I deal with imperfect blanks but as long as it's close to center and I have some margin of error for shaping, its just fine.
