Hi! Chris👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 An amazing journey. Beautiful breathtaking sceneries 👍🏻👍🏻 It must be an unforgettable experience train ride for you and your group. Any pre-activities to prep before visiting these places and Lhasa due to the high altitudes?

Hi Bernard, what you need is to ascend slowly from low altitude as to get acclimatized along the way. When arrived at high altitude regions, just slow down your movement.

When travelling or booking a ticket from Lhasa to Xining, they train will stop at a handful of stations to enable tourist to step outside of the station to take photos?
If so is it possible to step outside for a few days, enjoy the local scenery more, then get back on the next train to Xining, sort of like "hop on and hop off"?
And if not, is it possible to buy separate tickets from one station to the next starting from Lhasa, that way you could stop at any station, spend a day or two, buy another ticket for the next station or does that contravene the Tibet Entry Permit?
Does the TIbet permit have an expiry date?

Hi Monipenny, most of the stop over viewing stations is strictly for tourists to step out to take pictures and then get back to train, it is not a get in or drop off stations except few, like Golmud and Nagqu which is a passenger transit station, where you can disembark from the train and stay for few days before continue your journey, and you need to purchase the train tickets separately for each train ride.

The Tibet Entry Permit has fixed period just like China Visa, there is an expiry date. Free and easy back packing travel is much restricted or not encouraged. Travel in Tibet needs the accompany of a licensed Tibetan tour guide.
