WARNING: This parachute does not provide enough surface area to carry a human being. Do not use it for skydiving or base jumping.
This is a REALLY cool project you have there.
It warms my heart that you have documented it all!
I am planning on making a radio controlled "skydiver", or just a servo unit with 2 servos that control the control wires.
It would need a 2nd "pilot" besides the rc plane to control, if wanted.

Thank you :), As you can see, I still haven't installed any RC equipment and my canopy fabrication has kind of stopped too now :S Too busy with real life skydiving ;)

@TheKiesza I actually don't think so, for top and bottom piece you'll need at least 4 x 1.4m and this 4m x 0.2m piece, which would be left won't be enough for 13 ribs.
@bendmak95 Thanks, and yes it would. I did that already on "My Mini Parachute 2" and it's amazing!
@busspuppy I think the micro is just a little bit too heavy for it and this canopy design focuses more on flight stability, on heading openings and slow canopy rides...In RC Skydiving you wanna do nice hook turns and and cool landings, don't you.

@CLayaway1 yes, but be careful, the profile is way to high for a para glider and the general shape would be wrong...
@Mihawkler Do you have any video of how to make the pattern like drawing it onto a paper and then putting it on cardboard? My mom dont know how to do the radius on 82 cm at 2.53 second.
@clayaway1 you could make one with either 7 or 9 cells. I haven't seen one with more or less except in a paraglider.

Yeah I can't find any material online anywhere!!! The only material I had was an old round reserve. Its some pretty heavy stuff for a canopy this tiny

I'm trying to see if i should half the dimensions in order for it to be more scale for a GI Joe with RC stuff in it, but i was thinking about making it to the same specs and making a bigger jumper, but I want to see how much the fabric costs are. If you know, could you tell me how many yards of fabric you used in order to complete the project, it would be greatly appreciated. By the way, keep up the good work your canopys are amazing.

Boy I did put my foot in my mouth didn't I. Sorry about that. Couple questions if I may, one, what size diver did you use on this size canopy and second, what size chute would be best for a 12 inch figure like the G.I Joe Action figures. Putting the canopy together as you show was a snap following your info videos, wish more people would do as well as you did. I am a disabled vet, kind of restricted to a rolling chair. Building these is very relaxing and gives me something to do with my self during the day. Again many thanks for your excellent video.........Skip

@busspuppy if I ever get around to it, I'm thinkin about designing a high performanced canopy to use for rc skydiving. An eliptical wing, closed cells, thin airfoil, collapsable pilot chute, mabey a reserve, deployment bag, and if I'm lucky, riser input! I wanna make it as high performanced as I can!
I can't say this for sure because it has been quite some time now since I made my last canopy but I guess 6 yards should be enough for a canopy of this scale.
Is it realy 2.8m wide? In video it dont seens so big
Hello, merry christmas, I'm interested in making an RC skydiver model, I saw your videos and I'm happy with what you did here, but I want to know the total span or length of the parachute, in the video it says it's 14 cells of 20cmx82,5cm but that will make a total span of 2,80m or 280cm but that doesn't make sense to me because it's too big, all the ones I've seen have around 1,70m total length or span, I'm just confused with that. Thanks.
@bendmak95 I even tried once to make a canopy 6 times bigger, but I gave up when I realized that one single rib uses up more material than one complete mini parachute :D

Hello! Your videos are awesome! Just wanna ask how much weight can a parachute of this size lift? Do I need to scale down much if my load is just around 1kg? It would be wonderful if you could reply :D Thank youuuuu!
I made these like 6 years ago without having any clue about aerodynamics and I don't really know what the ideal payload would actually be but I remember 1 kg being a pretty nice load for these, if you need a higher wing loading you can always strap on something heavy ;)

If I build a parachute like this could I use it with a rc skydiver body from rcskydiving(d0t)com and would it work with the micro or regualar size? Also could you provide the masks/templates so I could be able to print them out and use them please. I am not very good at making masks. Have a good week.

@gliderpilotB I once made a Zero-Porosity canopy (the design from this video, higher angle of incidence) and it was just amazing! I had the same Glide-Ratio as my Paraglider-Out-Of-A-Single-Plastic-Bag(Video on my channel). Sorry I don't know how much i used of each color. I bought 10m x 1.6m of each and i have plenty left after 3 canopies. Unfortunately I can't find the fabrics only anymore (used to buy them from e-bay).

How did you find the pattern? What resources did you use to figure out the pattern and sewing the pieces together? I can't find anything online.
Mihawkler, I got the canopy finished and installed on my diver, first drop came off great. I have a concern on the back of the canopy, the over hang, nearly four inches just flapping in the wind. Does that flap have to be there? Your design is a good one, fits the type of jumping I like to do. Thanks again for all your help and advice. This hobby needs more people like you in it, good information and willing to help get some one off the ground. Can I get your e-mail address ?

Hi love your video it's so helpful, I'm making two parachutes for a dance performance, so they don;t have to really function other than inflate by two huge fans. I have a balloon company I'm buying my fabric from, do you know the overall amount of fabric I need for this project that would be really helpful, as maths and measurements is not my strong point. thnaks so much

Sorry, I do not have CAD drawings for this parachute. It is simply a toy and its flight performance is poor.
You should check out Laboratori D'envol. They have CAD designs of full paragliders and more

@mihawkler k you're going to love this program! You need to take a look at it when you have time... Google search: surfplan and download it. Lemme know if you have a hard time with the program but just kinda play around with it. You said you were looking for the perfect parachute design, well, here's the answer!
Milhawkler, are you certain about your measurements ? It comes out the canopy is 70.4 cm ( 27.5 inches), front to back and 280 cm (110.23 inches), side to side, what in the world are you using under that canopy a half scale human diver ? Last but not least, that canopy would never work if you look at it.
It has been a while since I made those but yes I am certain. It is 70.4 x 140 cm resulting in an aspect ratio of about 2. I can see how one can make the mistake you made though, the 20 cm cell pattern covers one of the 7 cells and not the space between two ribs as you thought.

If you want that your parachute flies you must take a weight about 5 or 4 kg.
