It's a remake of the same name game, released by Konami for NES. Download link: castlevania-ii... Completed without any deaths and with the best ending.
This would have been a game worth $59.95. At least back in 1990. Castlevania was my favorite series, and this is a great remake. Oh and for anyone who was thinking, why the hell was he taking so long in the first Mansion?! Well time doesn’t pass when you are in a Mansion, so if he is going to take a long time to farm for hearts- it is always best to do it inside a Mansion. That way you don’t murder your time limit
nice take on Castlevania 2. as a classic Castlevania fan. I really like the work and dedication that went into making this. I like how it has the mixture of Super Castlevania 4 Dracula X & Sympathy of the Night. graphics and the gameplay looks very impressive. many props to the people or person for making this. looks really awesome. I would like to play this game if I could.
Never understood Konami's obsession with remaking the first game a billion times when Simon's Quest clearly needed work. This is what should've been on the SNES instead. I know I'll probably get hate for such thoughts, but damn man.
Why the hate? I think many people would agree with you. So many first Castlevania remakes: Super 4, Chronicles, home computers awful remakes (except Sharp X68000), phone remakes. Castlevania 2&3 deserved better remakes, maybe a la All-Stars games. Better translation, maybe, SRAM savings, maps(Castlevania 2). Faithful Castlevania 3 16-bit or PS1 port! Instead, Konami kept it up with (sometimes useless) remakes and ports of first Castlevania...
after lords of shadow 1 and 2 i dont want another castlevania game, atleast not a hack and slash game thats for sure. it wasnt a bad game but if i want to play hack and slash i play god of war
This is very similar to how I wished Simons Quest would have turned out before I played the game the first time back in 1988, minus the 16 bit graphics. Good job on this, and I really like adding a boss before getting each part of Dracula's body.
Aside of a perfect fan game... I find it amusing that the sprite for Dracula makes him look like he's flapping his arms like a kid pretending to fly. Dracula: I CAN FLY! I CAN FLYYY!! Simon: AW, SHADDAP!!
The original one was incredibly difficult to finish without knowing what to do (eg: equip dracula's ring while speaking to ferry man). I was just able to finish many years later thanks to walkthroughs.....
Well done! Gotta tweak the bosses just a biiiit more. Dracula was a bit disappointing but the other bosses were awesome. And Dracula's castle was superb. Nice touch adding the ghosts.
It's a decent remake, but a whole lot more could have been done. Props on fixing the bosses, definitely definitely a plus! Extending the original songs (improvise/orchestrated with a tracker) would have been a treat. A complete clone of SOTN's mechanics would have been great, but this is a sufficient port, it's just that some things look a bit sluggish. Decreased costs to help the player progress sooner would have been welcome. Voices would have been epic for boss dialog before battle. As for the visuals, it's not too bad.. but there's a LOT much better looking concepts on DA that would have been great!
The reason why it's good. Is it's pixel perfect to the original. A different format would have entirely changed the game. This and ARM2 are the best sequel remakes ever made.
Cool remake. Love how packed Rover Mansion was with enemies that don't just "patrol" back and forth. It's good when you have enemies that actually target you. But then elsewhere, the devils that shoot fire (and other critters) were a bit too relaxed in this. If someone decides to remake the game, yet again (which I hope they do), do it COMPLETELY in SOTN style. This just took elements from it, but could have taken advantage of a lot more, including graphics and effects. (The blocks were just ugly in this) dracula's castle could have been a lot more challenging. The original CV2 was "rushed" and they didn't finish making Dracula's Castle, nor did they actually implement a true boss. The nice thing about remakes is that there is no deadline, take all the time you need and give us what we've been waiting for :) A full final level and a truly challenging boss fight.... you can also extend the amount of days for the good ending in order to fit the new content.
This is pretty neat. The only thing that is disappointing are the boss fights, given how incredibly basic their movements and attack patterns are. They could have been much more lively.
I agree. My guess is that someone created a midi version of the original music by just translating the original music instead of actually writing the music in a digital workstation. And then they used an updated sound bank, instead of using a sound bank that better aligns with the sounds from the 80's. Also the volume of each individual note has not been adjusted in the drum kit. And there is also a reverb effect on some of the hits (like the snare and hi hat), which I don't remember the NES music having any reverb on the drums. Overall it is a distraction... I wish the original music was used. My understanding is that the guy who made the game did not have much time or resources to make it perfect, and he asked for some assistance in the Metroidvania community, but I don't know if anyone helped. But being this game is like 9 years old I doubt anyone is going to update it any time soon anyways.
super awesome game remake. but why not gather all of the weapons? was the grinding really necessary to show? i would love to see the sacred flame and diamond weapons maybe the silver dagger. i like how the flame whip increased in strength, was that because of the ring or something else?
I don't remember harpies in the old Simon's Quest. Nor with the flame whip that you loose hearts every time you use it. The graphics are tight. They should have up dated the NES games for PS4. These graphics are tight.
Simon Belmont is 7 feet tall. He kills zombies by the hundreds. If he were here, he would consume Dracula's forces with fire balls from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse!
I would have loved it if Konami remade the Castlevania trilogy for PC-Engine CD-ROM, but if I had to choose between Rondo and the original trilogy I'd choose Rondo.
2:20. I feel bad for those two guys who got hanged in the mansion. Not only did they die in a disturbing way, but it also looks like they had to pee really bad too. Double whammy!
by God, WHAT A HORRIBLE EPIC NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE & A BEAUTIFUL REMAKE LIKE THIS!! I feel so bad I never found this video till now, THIS IS AMAZING I adore this game, CASTLEVANIA is my baby & Wife, I grew up adoring the very original CV & Simon's Quest , also truly love how much simon resembles Gabriel Belmont, nearly identical , but of course it was after the iconic Simon's Quest cover art we the mighty Belmont took inspiration , LOVE THIS VIDEO, is GREAT remake, thank you so much who ever did it, btw visit my channel for Simon Belmont cosplay into Bloodborne & others like Salt & Sanctuary series :))
I really wish this were a ROM-based remake, for SNES. The SNES would have been more than capable of processing this. Anyone remember that PC version of Dracula X (the butchered port of Rondo of Blood) that was floating around on the internet back in the day? Just one self-contained file (an .EXE you ran) and the game just loaded right up. Turns out it had a virus baked into it. Check all the old forums on retro games, and you quickly realize that the contaminated version was the _only_ one that ever seemed to exist on the web. Now I'm real cautious about any executables that can be downloaded for free.. Especially when I see what looks like Russian on a website. :\
This is a really well-done remake. The only thing I'm kinda iffy about is Simon's walk cycle. It looks little scrunched up. Nice playthrough, by the way!
It would've been cool if the final boss battle had been followed by escape sequence where you have to run out of the Castlevania ruins before it collapses while Simon's theme from Super Castlevania 4 playing, in the style of Metroid games.
Yeah the final battle is a big underwhelming. I guess that's a fault of the original. He only has one move, and the room is about the size of a save room
Actually, Konami should have added much more music tunes on different areas, like Mad Forest in forest, boss theme(s), different themes for each mansion, and Vampire Killer at Vlad Graveyard and Entrance to Castlevania near the end.
I was expecting a full redo of Simon's Quest where most of its problems were either tweaked or removed. But instead it's just a reskin of the NES. You still get the annoying day-n-night transition popup messages, and you still need to farm hearts through the whole game, and you still need to throw holy water on the ground in case you don't know which blocks are fake. -_-
1:27:45 Holy sh!t, that scared the hell outta me
That didn't scared me but that loud scream almost blew my eardrum! 😳😵

The revamped look is amazing. Loved Simons Quest so I gotta give this a go. Thanks for posting.
I love the addition of the bosses in the mansions

Dracula: "We'll meet again!"
lol I'm surprised at first
This remake is the best. It fixes all the little things that was wrong with Castlevania II without changing the original experience.
@jasonmaxwell9762# so true especially the villagers criptic messages#some of which r actually lies
Beautifully well done. All the additions just make sense. Great playthrough too and a big thank you to whoever made this.
nice take on Castlevania 2.

The night is not so sympathetic, as Simon's quest players know.

What Castlevania II could've been on the Super NES...
This is more Genesis than SNES.
@@dreamlandnightmare but they're both 16 bit systems

If we’re calling it SNES i’d like it to have more of a CVIV feel graphically and frame wise.
I love how this game kinda got the "Metroid: Zero Mission" treatment.
Wow, never seen the Carmilla fight take 20 freaking minutes. - -
I had to skip alot of the time. He was farming for hearts.

I don’t think they wanted to touch the game after the criticism it received
Simple business model; do what works and is liked
Yes, thanks Konami for giving up on Castlevania and making friggen pachinko machines. -.-
RIGHT??? lol... Im gonna miss Castlevania
we could say that gaming is evolving, unfortunately, is evolving to generic novel games, shooters and action fgames

Well the non metroidvania variants of the game anyway
anemite2 I.K.R 😔 (I know rite)

This game is perfect. The graphics, the updated soundtrack. Everything is so good!
sweet. my favorite castlevania. Simon's Quest!
Not sure what this.. 'posses' means. Now, 'process', that I understand.

@Johnnie1138 - You are a very sad person...

Nes: PROSSESS was misspelled
Revamped: You now POSSESS
I love this game. The exploring aspect of it is fantastic, the music is awesome, and the visual presentation is great too.
Yeah it is fun exploring
These upgraded graphics and music are terrific
This was wonderful thank you for sharing this find of an awesome fan game!
Looks like a cross between Super Akumajou Dracula and Dracula X Rondo of blood.
With Symphony of the Night sound effects ;)
With Super Akumajou Dracula, you mean Super Castlevania IV, don't you? In Japan, it was just called Akumajou Dracula like the original FDS version.
@@Rassenomatjutut Yes. I call it Super Akumajou Dracula to avoid confusion with the original FDS game.
Very awesome, this has to be the best fan remake I've seen
This facelift makes the game look beautiful. Updated sound is a nice plus too.

This looks really good. I like that you added bosses in the dungeons.
The original one was incredibly difficult to finish without knowing what to do (eg: equip dracula's ring while speaking to ferry man).
I was just able to finish many years later thanks to walkthroughs.....
You have to equip Dracula's heart to make the man on boat bring you to the other side of the river or lake .
Can't play this. The music is better on the NES, and that is the best part of this game. Unlike most, I like Castlevania II.
I agree the music is bland here
Well done! Gotta tweak the bosses just a biiiit more. Dracula was a bit disappointing but the other bosses were awesome. And Dracula's castle was superb. Nice touch adding the ghosts.
I love the draining effect using the blue crystal!
It's a decent remake, but a whole lot more could have been done. Props on fixing the bosses, definitely definitely a plus!

so...in the course of this awesomely fan-made remake we go from a simple leather whip to basically a long-chained flail with holy fire...I like it!
I wish they would just remake the game with modern features.
You can see the blue print of greatness!
The fact that Simon belmont's armor is red kinda makes him look a little bit like Gabriel belmont from castlevania lords of shadow
It is red in original boxart and ending animation
Dude, this is awesome! I only wish the frame rate as a tad more smoother, then it would be the ultimate CV2 remake so far!
The framerate sux , is it 15 fps ?
Dracula flapping his arms if hilarious
Came here to say this. Looks like a good remake over but that Dracula sprite animation, yikes.
It's like PC during the 16-bit era of gaming, haha! Not bad.
