This is a fan-made reimagining of Castlevania III for the PC with all new graphics, sound, and some extras. Being a big fan of the original NES version as well as WarMachine Studios' previous game (Castlevania Chronicles II - Simon's Quest), there was no way I could pass this one up. The goal here was to complete the entire game without losing a single life, and then to complete the Boss Rush mode that unlocks upon beating the game. This entire run is deathless, except for a couple of appearances of Death himself!

Final thoughts:
Generally I only try these sorts of difficult challenges on games that I really enjoy and this was no exception. Warmachine Studios did a fantastic job here and I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the original. Actually, even if you dislike the original or haven't played it, play this game! If you're more of a Castlevania 2 sort of person then check out Castlevania Chronicles II - Simon's Quest. It's really good.

Are there two versions? My version is so broken that it is unplayable, but the gameplay in the video seems more fluid...
I don't believe so. The version I played on was the very first version that was released but I don't see where anything newer exists. If it's just running slow then perhaps it would be smoother in windowed mode instead of full-screen mode, or the other way around. That's an easy setting to try from within the game itself. I had a few dropped frames and an occasional eaten input here and there but for the most part the game runs smoothly for me.

@@subledger. I figured out the problem. It's the bad kayboard controls, game is unplayable and unpredictable(sometimes) when you are playing with a keyboard. This issue needs fixing with some balance updates, other than that, it is a solid game.
@@OBENSBIZARREADVENTURES That's interesting. I never tried playing the game with a keyboard since the controller always worked fine for me. Maybe it will get patched in a later release if enough people have the issue.

While this is awesome, and I'm happy that it exists, I feel like it takes too many artistic liberties. Not always for the benefit. Lots of the motion has been made easier and loses that CastleVania vibe. Weapons look far more useful. One shotting a boss with a special was a bit much. With the game being so great and fantastic looking, I'm stuck dwelling on the other facets.
It does take quite a bit of liberties. The motion still has a bit of that classic Castlevania stiffness but it's also more fluid than the original for sure. I kind of look at the subweapon situation as if enemies and bosses have certain weaknesses against certain weapons. For example, the holy water's special attack one-shots the bat boss but doesn't do anything to the third boss that comes out of the coffins. Same with the whip...The whip is very useful against the bone dragon boss (the one that you fight twice) but subweapons seem to be less effective. Takes a bit of trial and error to figure out what weapon might make your life easier. It is rather extreme at times though, since some attacks do zero damage and some do 100% damage. That being said, all three companions have an invincibility move that I tried not to just keep spamming. The game can actually be made even easier if you don't mind using your invincibility move until it runs out, waiting until your magic meter refills, and doing it again. I wanted to demonstrate the moves in the video (I think I used each one at least once) but didn't want to cheese my way through. If you wanted to make it harder, refraining from using the invincibility moves and the specials that one-shot bosses will do that. Want to make it even harder? Do a Trevor only run or a run with no subweapons. I did a leather whip only (with no subweapons) run of Castlevania Chronicles 2 but I suspect that this game would be really hard under those restrictions...especially Death's second form. Haven't tried it, but that's my guess. Thanks for watching!

Pls how to change characters in game ? it's not possible to play with controller i'm sad...and i don't find how to switch characters...
I never played with a keyboard before today but I just tried it and the space bar changed characters for me. Just make sure you've actually hit one of the statues of the characters first or you won't be allowed to change yet. Good luck!

Tried a to play a bit but i got 2 major issues: 1) it get stuck on the gameover screen, 2) it's not clear nor explained how to save. Pressing up on the statues doesn't work. Otherwise very nice.
The developer (WarMachine Studios) is working on an update to the game now so perhaps that game over screen issue will get resolved. I know people have run into strange issues when using a keyboard instead of a controller so if you're using a keyboard it might be related. As for the saving, the game should just save automatically when you see one of those statues. No need to do anything with them. Thanks for watching!
@@subledger.the biggest improvement they could make is add a save state anywhere in the game from the pause menu, or at least from the checkpoints so you dont have to lose literally all gear when you die, and also have two modes: easy or hard, and in easy its the same except you dont lose all gear when you die.
@@CGJ7755 I think the upcoming update might include something that affects the difficulty but I'm not entirely sure. I'm a fan of difficulty modes though. Castlevania ReVamped added some new difficulty modes in the later updates and I'm looking forward to giving them a try.
@@subledger. I appreciate that they kept it close to the original: very hard game and not forgiving, but at this point, just add options or program some codes so we can just screw around and have fun, infinite hearts or double health for example

It was visually a nice remake, too many boss fights though were too easy with the item crashes, and the boss patterns were kind of lazy, otherwise seems fun for a one time playthrough.
I have to agree though the music had that nostalgic feeling to it
I definitely enjoyed it. The item crashes certainly make things way easier but you could always not use them to increase the challenge. One of these days I might give something like that a try. Take out the item crashes for an additional challenge. Take out companion invincibility moves for an even greater challenge. Take out subweapons or companions altogether for a way harder challenge. Or do a leather whip only challenge and make the game very difficult (not sure if that last one is even possible with the timer). Might add some replay value. Thanks for watching!

Up there as one of my favorite NES games no matter how frustrating it can be at times, and I really enjoyed glancing at this rendition of it with a bit more enhanced graphics, and how the dialogue/interaction was a bit more advanced and how you could eventually play as all the characters instead of just being limited to one extra (or none).
The original version is one of my favorite NES games as well and I thought this game had an interesting balance of feeling like it was a Castlevania 3 remake while also feeling like its own game. Thanks for watching!

Not sure if we'll see Richter in a future game by this developer or not but I do know that he's wrapping up a brand new Castlevania Adventure remake so we'll definitely be seeing at least one more Belmont other than Simon and Trevor coming up soon.

I think the voiceovers were done with some form of AI but I could be wrong. Maybe that's why it sounds a bit different from the actual voice actor who plays Alucard (although that would have been amazing to get him on board). Thanks for watching!

Is it just me or Alucard and Trevor's holy water are enough to take on Dracula's forces(sorry Grant and Sypha).
The holy water definitely ended up being my subweapon of choice. It clears the screen (most of the time) and can melt certain troublesome bosses. For bosses where the Hydrostorm doesn't damage them (like the Cyclops) the regular holy water still does. If you aren't doing a deathless run then it isn't always readily available but for most of this run I didn't want to get rid of it. I did try to demonstrate the other subweapons at times though. As for Alucard, I certainly found him to be the most valuable once you can use him. All three companions have a special ability that makes them invincible for a few seconds but his also allows him to fly, plus he can shoot. The game can be made easier by spamming Hydrostorm over and over and by using the invincibility moves more often but I tried not to do that too much so the video would be more interesting. Sometimes I think the gaming industry can learn a lot from these fan projects. This rocks my socks by how much love went into details and creativity.
For sure. Paying attention to fan games like this and seeing how successful they are can be used to help measure where the fanbase is leaning. I heard Konami just released a remake of Haunted Castle so they at least haven't forgotten about some of their classic games. It had it's good points, but also a lot of bad points... All in all... Given the presence of Dracula's remains from Simon's Quest and Harmony of Dissonance, and how many different forms Trevor had to fight Dracula in this, which showed him to be ridiculously overpowered, when canonically Dracula was almost at his weakest at the time; This feels like it should have been the story of Julius in 1999, since Julius fought Dracula when he was the most powerful he had ever been at the time.
Who knows...maybe WarMachine will eventually give us a story involving Julius. That guy never seems to take a break. I feel like Dracula from Castlevania Chronicles 2: Simon's Quest was harder overall but Dracula's final form in this game actually took me quite a few tries to defeat despite the simple pattern. He had 3 forms in the original NES game as well, and Dracula's Curse takes place 300 years before Simon's Quest and Harmony, so I have no idea why he would be necessarily weaker at the time.

I just played the boss rush mod and oh my god it was terrible...
A lot of it has to do with which subweapon you pick for each boss now that you can't use item crashes or companions anymore. Oh and don't forget to grab the food after each boss if you've taken damage, to replenish your hearts after each battle, and to use the backflip to make you invincible as much as you need. The level design is pretty bland and balance seems all over the place. There's still some work to do

The game looks awesome overall, but I still can't get past the trevor sprite looking out of place and wrong compared to the others. I dont see why they didn't just base it off his sprite in SOTN
I think the developer just wanted something more unique, kind of like how he avoided using the SOTN Alucard sprite. That being said, a different version of Trevor just might make an appearance in one of the dev's other games though 🙂 Thanks for watching!
@@subledger. I can certainly understand that, and the Alucard sprite looks good and fits the game, imo. The Trevor sprite just doesn't look right when paired with the rest. Look at him compared to Sypha. It would look more fitting if his sprite was increased in size by 2-3 pixels.
Cool CV game but the boss fights are no count.. They need to be harder.
Yeah I tried to demonstrate some strategies here that the average player could use without struggling too much but I also didn't want to just spam Hydrostorm or companions' invulnerability moves over and over but the bosses (and stages) become even easier if you do. Alucard's appearance and voice seems to be one of the more contested/polarizing topics about this game. I don't want to speak for him but I think the developer was trying to go for an appearance that hasn't been used to death already like the Symphony of the Night one but I could be wrong. @@jonathanfrakes1284 One thing I've seen some people ask for in the Discord server is the option for different costumes or skins. Maybe unlockable ones or just available from the start. I don't have any indication that the developer is going to do that, but it would be a way to satisfy more people who want to see their favorite character sprite style. Im at he last level and about to beat the game. The game is overall decent especially for a fan made game, but the facts are its flawed. Badly. Theres almost no sub weapon candles, so in the end, with the continue points, you end up playing the entire level with no sub weapons… you also dont have a companion until the second half of the level, and they dont come with a subweapon either, also the candles dont produce a subweapon for the character you want if you have another character when you sight it… there no save points in the game except the last one you played which you have to select from the title as “load game”. The whole reason this game was fun was because you could play as multiple characters and use the subweapons and this guy has robbed us of it. I will beat the game later tonight, erase it, and never ever look back. Zero replay value.
That's cool you're going to give it a full playthrough despite the issues you mentioned. The developer is supposed to be releasing a patch at some point. I don't think it will address the stage layouts but who knows? Hopefully we'll see some added polish but if you're not a big fan of the game then you might be more interested in the upcoming one he's working on which is a remake of The Castlevania Adventure, originally for the Game Boy. He also made a Castlevania 2 remake which I had a good time with. If you're looking for something different from another developer, Castlevania ReVamped by Lv.4 Games is a great Metroidvania styled game modeled after the original Castlevania. Thanks for watching!

The game is amazing and the additions really are outstanding like the origin of the other playable characters, the Dracula multiple forms at the end as a throwback to Castle2 (heart, eye, nail, etc) but if you’re going to ADD so much awesome content-- why not make it so there’s options

I had a good time playing through the game and the bosses almost have a sort of "find their weakness" sort of thing going on where if you approach them with the wrong weapon then you're going to have a hard time but in some cases the bosses get absolutely shredded if you use the right tools. Since the game just came out last night I'm curious to see what other strategies people come up with that are better than mine.

I can't believe what I am actually visualizing. I'm a die-hard Castlevania fan. This game is the most wicked I've ever seen. Whoever played this, had skills beyond skills!

@@ShellzSSavag Oh it took quite a few tries that's for sure! If I remember correctly most of my failed attempts were due to pits but I know I lost at least a few attempts to some of the bosses. There was one attempt in particular where I made it all the way to the final stage and either got killed by the top of the scrolling section or the bottom. That part's tough!
So finally got around to playing it. My Lord this game is so stiff feeling. The stairs mechanics are possibly worse than the original, two to three hits for a skeleton? I mean really? It just feels like such a step backwards from Chronicles 2, which a few tracks are recycled from it which is ashame. I really hope there will be an update, cause it definitely needs it to be more fluid feeling. Plus extra unlocks like costumes from the past would be a nice touch.
The game definitely takes inspiration from some of the stiffer feeling older Castlevania games. Some may prefer that and some may not. Simon from Castlevania Chronicles 2 does seem more nimble with his slide and all, but Trevor's backflip can be used in some clever ways as well. I've noticed some of the enemies (like the skeleton you mentioned) seem to have weaknesses so it takes a bit of experimentation to figure that out. For example, the skeletons die faster to a dagger or holy water than they do to the whip. Same with some bosses. Show up with the wrong weapon and you're in for a tough fight, but bring their weakness and the battle is much easier. There actually is an upcoming "Chronicles Mode" which as of right now hasn't been released so perhaps that will make it more fun for you (I'm not entirely sure what it will entail but we'll see).
You've possibly played it since you have the trailer on your channel but in case you haven't, Castlevania ReVamped might be more of your style. It has a more fluid control scheme and plays more like a modern Metroidvania than an older classic Castlevania game. You're right! I never played with a keyboard before today but I just tried it and I get the same result. With a controller I can easily jump out of the swamp but with the keyboard I cannot. The developer of the game has a Discord server where the game can be discussed and bugs can be reported. I checked the bug reports and it looks like this issue has already been reported. One person had a similar issue with a PlayStation 4 controller and ended up using a program called DS4Windows to make Windows think their PS4 controller was an Xbox controller. Maybe for keyboard users they can use a program to convert keyboard inputs into Xbox controller ones, similar to the example I mentioned until the issue is patched. Good luck!

That one made me laugh too. Imagine if Trevor vanquished the night so it was permanently daytime. Pretty sure that would cause more destruction than Dracula ever could. The fact that the battle starts immediately after that makes me think that he realized what he said didn't make any sense and just decided to quickly kill Dracula out of embarrassment. 🤣

This game need an HD restyling!!! Poor low res graphics!! But sometime nice music!!

cant make my gamepad (ds4) to work and when i bound the gamepad to keyboard layout it wont work because it thinks its connetect to the gamepad
Yeah there have been some controller issues reported for less common controllers as well as keyboard issues. I'm guessing that if the controller is mapped to the keyboard then you'd run into the keyboard issues. In particular, keyboard users have had issues jumping out of the mud in one particular stage. I think the developer (WarMachine Studios) is going to revisit some of these controller/keyboard issues after his current project is complete but I can at least verify that an XBox Series controller works for me. Two problems. One please make it controller friendly. I have carpal tunnel, I don't play games well with a keyboard. Second, I tried running the game, and my antivirus stated the game is not safe. Please fix this.
I'm not the developer of the game but it should work fine with at least some controllers. I was specifically using an Xbox Series controller and never had any issues but I haven't tried it with any other ones. As for the antivirus, I know sometimes fan-made games like this will show up as false positives in certain antivirus programs for some people yet not for others, presumably for how it wants to write to the appdata folder in some cases. Unfortunately the exe file is too large to upload to an online malware scanner like Virustotal so I can see why this would be concerning. Must be frustrating for the developer to have their game flagged as malware but I'm not so sure there's a good way for them to fix it without getting the exe signed. If your antivirus is deleting/quarantining the exe automatically then it's possible to override that, but you'd of course have to be comfortable doing that. It would be interesting to see how many other people have had the same issues since this one didn't pop up as malware for me. Thanks for watching!

Don't download the game from the link underneath the linked video. Norton said it had a high-risk virus and deleted it.
I don't use Norton Antivirus so I can't speak to that specifically but I've had Windows Defender quarantine a couple of fan-made games like this that are exe files but then when you run them through other malware detection software they turn out fine. Apparently this can happen with unsigned exe files or ones that want to access certain directories or dll files regardless of whether they're malicious or not. As always though, download (or don't) at your own discretion. Thanks for watching!

That is a keyboard issue, sadly the creator can't figure out how to solve it.
Yeah just like @boiii4257 mentioned, it's a known bug with using the keyboard. I actually ran into it as well. I'm pretty sure there will be at least one update to the game at some point since Chronicles Mode doesn't properly unlock yet, so maybe the keyboard issue will get fixed at that time. i love the gameplay cause i love castlevania .... but some bosses can be a little harder ... and cause you have a lot of abillyties... i yhink a boss fight can get some more to to fight with... the death fight an dracula fight now thats what i call agood fight ... love the game for sure
Yeah there are definitely some bosses that disappear just as fast as they showed up if you use the right weapon against them. I'm curious how difficult a Trevor only, whip only playthrough would be since you'd be forced to learn all the boss patterns instead of just melting them with a companion, using an invincibility ability, or crushing them with a subweapon. The controls don't work correctly.

Why do seemlingly none of these remakes add 8 directional whipping like Super Castlevania 4 had? That simple addition is what made SC4 THE best feeling Castlevania game ever, the fact you could take out flying enemies without having to jump up to their level, or wait for them to descend to chest height, you just held up+direction, or straight up. Like, that should be the easiest thing to add one would think 😅
I'm sure the developer had the ability to add 8 directional whipping but just chose not to. Maybe it was to keep it closer to the feel of the original Castlevania 3 but to be fair, they did make a bunch of other choices that weren't in line with the original so maybe that's not the reason. It would be interesting if maybe after beating the game you could get an 8 directional whipping mode. If this developer remakes Super Castlevania 4 then they'll HAVE to add it in for sure. It's more in the Metroidvania style, but Castlevania ReVamped does in fact give us 8 directional whipping and is a really fun game if you're into that style. Thanks for watching!

The music is great, the jank controls and the fact that I died so many times cause Trevor somehow was glued to those pendulums. Besides that I can only guess that the bosses are WAY too hard, I died several times against the Skull Knight cause I did not have the Holy Water thanks to Trevor hittig his head on the ceiling when jumping falling into a hole.
