In the Philippines, "maldita" is often referred to a mischievous girl, one with an unlikeable personality, or put simply, a bitch. However, when used to one's own self, it evokes the meaning of being an independent and strong woman, kind of what the song "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks is trying to do. Nowadays, the word "maldita" is not as gravely offensive curse to use as it once was, thus when you say it to someone, they will just most likely own it then give you a bad day
As a Spanish speaker I can get I'd say 85-90% of what she was singing. WOW. I think that if I went to the Philippines to Zamboanga City I'd pick up the language in weeks. NICE. Nice song.

When you started to nod your head I couldn't help but smile. Realizing that the Chavacano language made a connection to you is wonderful. Here in the Philippines after the American occupation and years of American media influence , some of the Spanish words has lost its real meaning, Here "maldita"is commonly associated as bad girl. Even me -- I didn't realize how bad the word really meant. Ans Maldita being Pop Rock band perhaps only wanted an edgier rebel persona. My guess the Maldita band eventually realized the error (too late). Eventually renamed their group as UNiCA in 2012. The song was actually composed by the guitarist Whey Guevarra. Aside from using egg cartons in their sound studio; you may notice from this earliest video ---- the Maldita band is actually still in their formative stage. These girls who recorded this original version had actually replaced the original singer of the band. Francel de Leon was recruited when Guevarra overheard her singing when she was doing video editing (schpol work ) at his studio. Francel would later recommend her friend Ms Teen Zamboanga Demz Espinoza as the second vocalist. The song became a surprise hit but before the Tagalog (Official ) version was recorded Fancel has to leave. This was because she is candidate for Cum Laude. The band disbanded on 2015. Por Que is their only only mega hit. But I just discovered as UniCa their other Chavacano song "Martir" ---- ruclips.net/video/Yg58vrDQ-j8/видео.html
HI Samantha Lisa, you need to check this out. The two original Pilipina singers who sang this song PORQUE also in a Spanish version , THIS IS A DIFFERENT VERSION, you will love this. This is the title look for this --- POR QUE (SPANISH VERSION) .
As a Zamboangeña, one of my favorite Chavacano songs to listen to is “Etu”, a Chavacano cover of Yeng Constantino’s “Ako.” It would be awesome if you could react to it as well.
Mexico was under Spain for 300 years, the Philippines was 333 years do the Math! They are speaking a much older Spanish language... Sadly we lost it... we hated Spain that much, that is why we buried the whole language, but I wish we had retained everything...
blame the Americans for trying so hard to try to eliminate every single trace of Spain, which they usually do. Americans hate those who do not speak their language.
Hola Samantha y bien dia tudos. Muchos gracias de reacciones nuestra amateur cantura filipina. ZAMBOANGA CITY PHILIPPINES IS THE ONLY SPANISH SPEAKING DIALECH INFLUINCE BY SPANISH RULE DURING MIDDLE YEAR 1500 TILL TO LATE 1800 🙏🙏🙏
Hi I’m Filipino. I just wanna tell that maldita, in the Philippines is an adjective which means “mean”. or “mean girl/s”. Like in the movie Mean Girls. Thank you
Actually, there are more songs in Chavacano you could hear here in Zamboanga City, the so-called "Asia's Latin City" in the Philippines. However, there are no official song records which you can watch on videos like that song "Porque" by Maldita. You can just listen some of the Chavacano songs by a radio. Luckily, some Zamboangueños people strived to make some video-lyrics for the Chavacano songs. Just search for Chabacano or Chavacano songs.
Please react to Ms Elaine Duran’s newest cover of Bruno Mars “TALKING TO THE MOON”. I wanna know your thoughts on her version of the song. Thanks! Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/oPpwno_ABBk/видео.html

It was a language brought to the Philippines during spanish invassion in 18th century. Maybe there are slight difference in todays language of Spain.

Maldita means quite different in the Philippines, its means like a "Ill charactered woman" or some what a woman with a "bitchy" attitude.
We use maldita in bisaya as mischievous.
