That's a brutally honest description of small farming. Lots of work for low returns, it has to be a labour of love, and you have to have alternate income streams to be comfortable.
I wish you and your family all the luck in the world finding a way to make it work.

Like your honest story. I am trying to realize what you do since 30+ years, but raising a family of 5 somehow kept me in my industry career. Today, I am in my young 60’s and slowly it’s time to become a farmer. Wish you all the best.

I have a small farm and can testify farm income is a joke! there is no government support, rather government competition. often what we raise is imported rather than use local production! We survive in spite of bureaucracy. there is no lack of hard physical labor but that is what attracts me! good luck to you Erik because you have it harder but are a survivor. From Montana, USA

I myself a 55 year old retired medical doctor, mom of two grown ups, have the dreams that I could not follow through yet. I hope and wish the best luck and the energy to you to me and to all the dreamers of living a peaceful sustainable life in mother nature’s bosom. Watching your video from Bangladesh.
For study purposes I’m in our capital city. But my childhood to my college I spent at village where my parents used to produce different kind of firm foods. But it’s true that leading life depending on a small farm is really difficult. Good luck to you.

That is true. Farmers earn less and less. Most of the small farms in Norway are abended or just run as a hobby. Only the large industrial farms are still profitable. If you want to continue following our videos, we are releasing all the new videos in English langue on our other channel. ruclips.net/channel/UCTRe7psQwyTt3dtiYcvvJiA Good luck with your studies. 😊👍

What a great journey. It's always difficult nowadays following your dreams. I live in Greece, And I thought it would be a good idea following my dreams. I quit my job in the telecommunication section, which was crap, especially after the financial crisis in Greece. I was planning to move to Norway for work for a few months, using the money I took by resigning from my work. But before that, I decided that it would be a good idea to visit Norway. Two months ago, I came with a volunteer program (Workaway) in a Norwegian farm, helping a family of 6 near Mjøsa lake. What a great place to live in and what a great family. After a month, I decided that I missed my friends and family, which is the most important thing of all. But this experience was great. Mountains, rivers, wild life and a great family that I call them friends. I don't know if you consider this, but you could get help by volunteers finishing a few of your projects/work in the farm etc. As long as we lived there, we cut/split wood for the next winter, grow vegetables, sanding and painting the house/guest house, feeding the animals etc. Our hosts had their morning work, so we worked alone in the mornings. There are also some volunteers that know craftwork, so they could help with the renovations. I wish to you all the best. I'm in Greece now, but I miss the days I passed in Norway. Tusen takk for videoen.

What you did was wonderful and very courageous and even though you might think it's easy for me to say this, you are right, even if you think you made some very tough choice and it's not easy every day. You are way ahead of any accountants in Oslo. Now, here where I think you made a mistake: you're trying to live off your farm as somebody would have in the 19th century while gigantic farms are nearby, in your country and all over Europe. The fhe place you have and the acreage you have you need to shift from thinking about making a living with agriculture and instead try to transform your land into a place where people will pay to come over to learn something you think we all should learn. Please, forget about trying to make a living on a small farm, you're going to destroy your health, especially in such an expensive country as Norway. If you have skill build some structure, small chalets where you will organize retreats, yoga retreats, photography seminars, whatever you think your land and county is suited for and little by little start making money. If you don't have the skill to build small structures yourself, just learn. It's easy than you think, and keep in mind, people who will come to you wants rusticity. A log cabin with dry toilet is fine. You are on the right track, you just need to forget about agriculture and use your space to provide something to city people who will pay for what you have to offer. Sincerely.

Hi, I watch your farm movies from Poland, I am not farmer or such, but I am interested in sustainable life. YT algorithm sent me your movies, as I watched different types of permacultural farming movies by Ramsey United. Every time I watch your movies it is zen for me. You seem to be smart guy, looking into the future of your children and grandchildren.I wish you your dreams come true, it is very common sentence, but it is real good luck will. For me it is nice to work in my ship electric engineering job, I do what I like and the company pays me! I hope you do your job and hobby farming like this also, it is hard, but that the way as life is. A lot of health for you and your family, especially for you daughter. I hope also that you will finally be self efficient of your farm and maybe from YT money, who knows? Keep going, even if you will not produce more movies here!
