Dude thank you so much. I almost had a heart attack when I couldn't open those files with the X logo on them. To be honest I think microsoft needs to do a better job at OneDrive or at least make it more personizable for the user

Onedrive was honestly so inconvenient. First they gave me trouble with playing my videos and then they told me i need to pay them a monthly subscription for more storage space. At that point, i decided to unlink.
thank you, one drive kept adding files from my old computer onto my new one that I didn't want to be there and whenever I removed them they would get removed from my old one as well, which is where I wanted to keep them. This helps a ton.

Me too with the red x. After a week of trying fixes that don't work. I'm just paying them the stupid $1.99 for 100gb or. I feel like I am being held hostage. You have to delete Onedrive when the computer is brand new or risk losing files. Or perhaps save them to a flashdrive first and then delete Onedrive. MS ought to be ashamed.

Great Fix to Disable One Drive! A+++!
This is a WARNING, be careful people. I'm really, really not happy; I'll just say that. Deleting my photos from One Drive ALSO DELETED THEM FROM MY PC!! I only wanted to keep them for myself, not have them out in the wild on another server I have no control over. As I was about to copy my photo albums to an external hard drive, I thought to remove them from One Drive first; I wonder if they would have been deleted on an external hard drive too. Photos I will never, never get back, and no one else in my fam has them. I checked my desktop media folder before deleting files from One Drive --and it was totally empty, so thankfully I realised what was happening and was able to keep my docs on my PC. This is a Google problem, but also an impingement on my privacy and ownership of data, which Google really has no right to be messing with.
When you have your PC Synced you have mirror image of both OneDrive and your Desktop/ PC. What should have been done in - the case above - BEFORE DELETING is manually go in and COPY all photos, vids, and whatever to another file location on PC (like My Photos, or create a brand new folder location) then PASTE them there. Then go and delete files. You need to have backups of the backups on OneDrive... Microsoft OneDrive are corrupt money grabbing thieves and it is no accident that these mistakes are made!!! In the new age were every corporation has an App that they want you to pay Monthly for!!!
Onedrive does not appear in apps or on file manager but is up and running. While in Onedrive the settings options are only: Options, Upgrade and English. Basically, my computer gives me no option of opting out of it saving docs to the onedrive. Any other suggestions?

Thank you for this. But as soon as you reconfigure One Drive, it takes over the Desktop, My Documents etc. Folders again. And if you delete the files from One Drive they are also deleted from the PC. I've tried resetting it but no luck. Do you have another solution, please?

same problem couldnt stop syncing so deleted files off one drive an unlinked account an it deleted everything from my computer i never wants files backed up to begin with an it was syncing 3 gb of files slowing everything down so got rid of it an ended up losing everything that was on desktop documents an pictures as well so had to re link it again an set it back up an now its syncing files again but taking forever if i try an stop it it deletes files again and if its unlinked computer says action needed for security firewall settings or something tells me set it back up hate one drive so much rather not back anything up an take risk of losing then be forced to back an have files deleted from computer by onedrive cause i deleted them online on onedrive didnt expect everything on my laptop to get wiped to

OneDrive is being forced onto Surface Users. I use mine for art. I don't want my shit on OneDrive. I keep telling the computer not to save on OneDrive. Yet my art keeps showing up on one drive or being completely erased even if I hit the save button over and over.
