It should work in theory; in reality it didn't! Worse news: one reason for putting stuff in the Cloud (OneDrive) is to release space from your hard-drive. With so many computers coming with limited harddrive of 250 GB or even smaller in more compact computers, that is an asset. Imagine my surprise when I learned that OneDrive also saves to your own harddrive, which seems to defeat the whole purpose of the Cloud. Not only that, the sync process uses up a whole lot of bandwidth, so that the computer becomes almost useless, and syncing has to be turned off to regain access (use) of the computer. In the end, I just found the whole OneDrive things more of a nuisance.

This is too darn complicated. Microsoft has made using a computer too difficult. These highly advanced features are way beyond the everyday user like me, and way, way more than we need. My computer use is pretty basic, writing manuscripts, checking the weather, paying bills, doing research, finding phone numbers and addresses, etc. But thanks for the good tutorial.

Excellent video. I service a company with a lot of sync issues as they have Macs, PCs, and use OneDrive and Sharepoint with a lot of collaboration. If you could make a video on "the best workflow approach when working with documents in OneDrive and Sharepoint" that would be a huge help. I usually encourage users to work with browser-based versions as much as possible, which they often don't want to do. But I'm unsure as to what to advise when a user works in OneDrive locally.

So, how would you go about uninstalling OneDrive? I've looked at a few videos, while some were complicated methods the easiest ones were either 1) Uninstall via programs and features etc. 2) Right-clicking the OneDrive Icon, clicking settings, then unlinking your account.
Simple right? One problem though, Even though I clearly have OneDrive running on my computer (even in Task Manager and the Icon here) when I go to check to uninstall it, the program is NOWHERE to be seen to actually uninstall it, even the right-clicking method doesn't give me an option to unlink from it. So, are there any other ways to uninstall it without going through some overly complicated method or having to download some software tool I won't need?

If you could made a video on how two different systems can co-exists working on the same file system that would be awesome. My ideal would be for each User to sync their local copy with the one from OneDrive, work on it and then do a manual sync to update the OneDrive copy! It appears OneDrive does not get updated when each user is keeping a local copy!

Good video- well done- thanks. I'm curious about good ways to fix things when the wheels come off. What to do when your laptop isn't syncing correctly with your OneDrive and neither is your desktop PC (to OneDrive or with the laptop)- three birds flying in formation, but only sort of.
Manually trying to get it all synced is going down a rabbit hole due to the many, many files you'd be dragging and dropping and deleting. Has to be a better way- ideas? I have an external SSD as well, so that can be part of the "fix" since its fast- maybe park everything on it (accept any duplicates?), delete the machine and OneDrive copies and start afresh? Or...?
Apologies for being late to the party, a new video on just this would be terrific.

    • @ArnStar
      @ArnStar 3 года назад +1

If they are Office files, only use the modern file formats, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX. The older non-X formats are much slower to sync and do not support co-authoring. And also make sure you keep the sync software up to date (which it should do automatically).

    • @tormodsolemslupphaug1043

@@ArnStar The delayed sync happens regardless of file type or size (folder, txt, pdf or Office file). All Office files being actively worked with are saved in the newest format. • @CollaborationCoach

That sounds like a performance issue on your computer. Check your sync client is up to date. And check your disk to see if it's working hard, or hardly working when you make a change. If you make a change to an Office file it should only sync the deltas if your client is up to date, so it's not doing a lot of sync work. But your computer having trouble scanning for the changes in the first place may be where the delay is coming from.

Hi, Matt! What about if I no longer want a computer to synch? Further more, what if I want to remove the files from that computer without affecting the files in the cloud? Example: I need to send my computer to repair and I want to remove all OneDrive and SharePoint files from File Explorer.
Another question: I "kinda" understand the access to the files in SharePoint based on the group permissions. What about OneDrive? How do I know who has access to those files?
Another nice feature to understand is the possibility of seeing all the files listed in File Explorer, but having only the ones we actually need on the machine saved locally so that our machine does not run out of space. And then, how to switch a file or folder from local copy to cloud only and vice-versa.
I hope you find these questions valuable for next video tutorials. ;-) Thank you for your videos. Very helpful!

Reason number 1 is not a compelling argument for syncing. People have been able to work offline for many years before cloud saves existed. Every PC comes with these things called solid state drives and hard drives that let you.........SAVE FILES LOCALLY! Just save your stuff on your drives, and you'll always have access to it. No need for a middleman in that process. Now if you want backups, sure cloud saves can be nice and convenient for people that want to save stuff offsite.

Guys if you had recently purchased a new pc or laptop, the first thing you want to do is uninstall onedrive from control panel. Now, If you have any documents you want to transfer from your old device to your new device, (lets say you do have some documents backed up in your one drive account) go to the one drive website and log in. From there manually copy paste the documents that you want to transfer, to your desktop drive c drive d drive f or whichever you like. Do feel free to install one drive application back into your pc/laptop if you need to do some back up. (Or simply use an external hardrive to back up like the old school way). After doing so, just uninstall the app again so it wont sync anymore when you download new files later on. The syncing in one drive may be very confusing to new users. One drive is great, but it not meant for everyone.

All my OneDrive Files became icons as Green circle with a white check mark = "Always keep in this device". This was I was able to work on my files anytime AND if I don't have internet access since I travel for work. Well, I got to the point where all my OneDrive Files became large in size, it ate up ALL my C-Drive storage space! So I changed the location to save the OneDrive Files from the C-Drive to an external HD. Problem is, I would always have to connect the external HD and that can be problematic since I can no longer connect external HD's to my work laptop due to company security policy. What to do????

I think the 64 bit client will help with performance on the client end, but when you're synching large amounts of files, I think SharePoint and network latency can often be the bottle necks.
I'd recommend using the files on demand feature too, because then files are only downloaded when needed. That should be switched on by default if your client is up to date.
Also if you're synching 100,000s of file from a single library, you could consider restructuring your libraries, or excluding folders and files from sync. I know that's easier said than done 😊

so after further consideration, the best way to get this done quickly and not eat up a bunch of time? drag the folders and files to the onedrive location. Unfortunately, you will have to recreate your shortcuts. but at least? you free up space on your computer! and your important files are? backed up in the cloud and you just reestablish the old shorts cuts to the new location, and can get to them whenever you need them.

Outlook .PST files are supported, but are synced less frequently compared to other file types to reduce network traffic.

Can you sync other folders, or do you only have the option to sync those three folders in your tutorial? Google Drive sync seems better because it allows you to choose what folders on your computer you want to sync, giving you more flexibility. The last thing I want to do is make a copy of a folder into one of those three folders just to use the 1 TB of space I have with my subscription. Please advise.

Hi, I have a mac and I'm using OneDrive and SharePoint. I had a file uploaded to OneDrive, an 8GB video, to open it from Finder it has been downloaded, and now it's using my hard drive space, how do I revert that? I want to keep it in the cloud, but I don'r want the copy on my hard drive anymore. Also, I've noticed that if I create a file in a folder from Finder, and delete ir before it has ended syncing, it doesn't go to the trash can in my computer, it desappears, it's not on the onedrive trash either because it never got there... Is there a way to set it up so the file either goes to the finder trash or sync the trash can from onedrive into the finder? so the erased file goes there? I mean, we're changing our workflow to work with the files from the sharepoint, but if I erase something by mistake, I have no way to get it back...

problem with sync is if using multiple computers and one computer isn't online for a while, and then turn on, it may overwrite new data on the server with the old version on the computer you just turned on. This is why I'm not syncing.

This software I despise so much that I want Microsoft burned to the ground and removed from society.
Whoever developed it needs his head kicked in to spazz level, totally unacceptable ill thought out pile of rubbish software.
EVERYTIME you want to check your photos, now you are forced to use this Onedrive. Everytime you go to log in, you have huge security protocols to go through, now we email this email for you to confirm you are who you are, then another CODE goes in. This is before you can access this rubbish, spastic made cloud based storage fooking shit needs to be blown up.
Other things, I have photos all over the place, Onedrive needs to be removed. Either remove it, or when the revolution starts Balmer and Gates, we will castrate you and collapse your overrated business.

Hi - you say that if I were to change a line in a Word doc, only the _changes_ are copied, not the entire file.
In Excel, I have created a spreadsheet in OneDrive and copied it down to my local Documents folder. I have not changed any text in the xls, but I have changed the _format_ of some cells, so that they are now filled with blue instead of yellow. I have waited over an hour, but the changes have not been reflected in OD. If I hover over the blue cloud icon in the bottom right, I am told that OD is up to date.
    So where are my changes?
