yeah that would have been funny, but i think his character in this movie fits him, i liked when he hit the dog with the newspaper, but Wes Anderson is a supreme director, it was a hard toss up but i think this movie is my second favorite of his, the first being Rushmore, and i say that because i see Max Fischer as the teenager that i wish i could of been, oh and another thing Wes and Bill Murray must be good friends considering that BIll had starring roles in both movies.
I actually just had a dream about this and young Steve was played by Jude Law, lol. His voice was just like Bill's in the dream, but I'm not sure if Law could pull it off in real life. Holland was Klaus. Not sure if that's going to work.
This movie has a strong tone of Zissou faking big parts of his documentaries for entertainment purpose. My understanding always has been, that parts of the story didn't quite happen the way we perceive them. Such as Zissou taking down a whole bunch of pirates. My strong believe is, that Ned, in fact, is still alive and Zissou faked his death for the documentary. Fun part is, it just fits the tone for me. In the very beginning, a reporter asks Zissou "who are you gonna kill next?" indicating that Zissou killed somebody so his documentary would flourish. Watch the movie again with these ideas in mind and see what happens.
There’s also a bit of symbolism in the bit too: he is pretty good at what he does, but also has a little resentment because of the trauma he experienced, and has kind of passed it all along to his crew, who sticks with him since they know it all might be worth it for the sake of exploration...
@@reidboggs4344 Buckaroo Banzai also had a dead character show up in it credit sequence and the point of THAT was ALSO that life goes on as long as you remember those who came before.
I have to believe the main reason Wes Anderson hired Goldblume to be in this movie was so he could do this scene as a sendup to Buckaroo Banzai. If that is the case the man is ten different layers of brilliant.
@@jeremysears4263 To this movie Wes doesn't do sequels. All of his movies are compartmentalized stories. If you're asking why Buckaroo Banzai never got on, poor advertising and the fact that it bombed at the box office, to be fair it did go up against Star Trek 3 when it premiered

Watched this film again last Friday (after news broke of David Bowie's death) and this moment was like my personal Bowie goodbye. That's how you go out----strutting--and not alone, but with the whole gang you brought together.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension is the full title of this 1984 must-see cult movie with Peter Weller, Jamie Lee Curtis (only in the extended scene at the beginning, seen as a special feature), Jeff Goldblum, Clancy Brown, John Lithgow, Vincent Schiavelli, Ellen Barkin, Rosalind Cash, and so many more. The credits walking scene here was done as an homage to the credits walking (or more like strutting IMO) in Buckaroo Banzai 20 years before
i had to come here to watch it properly because the streaming service its on minimizes it by force when the credits roll to advertise another film... loved this movie 🥰 don't get people who say wes anderson movies are emotionless i thought this was beautiful
I always wonder what Jeff Goldblum's reaction was to the BUCKAROO BANZAI music on set that day. They used it for the temp track so people had a rhythm to walk to. Shit, I'd give just about anything to have seen BTS footage of his face that day. "This, uh...uh, is um...familiar."
Theomite Well, when Goldblum filmed the end credit walk scene for Buckaroo Banzai, the iconic music hadn't been composed yet so the actors walked to Uptown Girl by Billy Joel.
This is the movie that quite literally made me become a Wes Anderson fan. After watching this, I saw his other films and from Fantastic Mr Fox and on, I have seen every Anderson movie in theaters. Looking forward to checking out his newest film 🙂
I get the weird feeling that Bill Murray is only happy when hes working on a Wes Anderson movie and that Wilem Defoe is happy every single minute of every day .
For years you could see the greatest live performance of Bowie, Ronson and the band doing this in the early seventies. After David passed - the BBC took it off you-tube. Apparently, they had the copyright on the performance. The BBC sucks.
+James S I watched that video probably once or twice week for years. It's utterly magnificent. BBC owes it to the world to make it available somewhere. I'd gladly pay to be able to watch it whenever I'm in the mood.
cepson All the BBC would have to do is like so many others do. Have a commercial at the start of the video. Its not like you can't see and hear other versions. Its just that particular performance (because of its high def quality and passionate performance) is probably the best. Again - the BBC sucks.

Yep, I thought Buckaroo Banzai when I saw this, too
What, are you making fun of him?
Lol right?
The irony is that, Peter Weller said in 2011 "my blueprint for Buckaroo Banzai was Jacques Cousteau and Adam Ant"
Possibly my favourite ending of a film.
Mine too!!
Mine too,too!
+adrian fitzsimons The scene with them walking on the docks is a homage to the end credits of Buckaroo Banzai which is also a great ending to a film.
loved that too! john bigboote!
It's bigbootay!
Not gonna lie I would watch an entire series of movies about this crew just going on crazy adventures out into the ocean
For the rest of my goddamn life
Me too.

Putting the ghost of Ned up on top of the Belafonte as the board the craft for the last time in the film....that was a touch of genius....
I never knew that was Ned's ghost. When I first watched it, I thought it was just another crew member of the Belafonte. Thanks for the detail.
Makes sense. In the Buckaroo Banzai ending, deceased characters were present in the cast parade (?) as well.
I just noticed that too and wasn’t sure if it was ned’s “ghost” or just another member of the airline where Ned worked
He was their guardian angel all along... So fitting.

So many little details of comedy: an “oceanographer” casually flicking his cigarette butt into the ocean.
There’s also a bit of symbolism in the bit too: he is pretty good at what he does, but also has a little resentment because of the trauma he experienced, and has kind of passed it all along to his crew, who sticks with him since they know it all might be worth it for the sake of exploration...

That was love 😊😊😊
Steve graciously waving her in and she leaps into the crowd so joyously. 👏😘😎
Well, she was always the brains of the operation.
loved this movie, it perfectly split the difference between Bill Murray always wanting to be a serious actor, and his greatest talent being comedy.
Bill Murray as Fictional Jacques Yves Cousteau as Zizzou walking to queen bitch by David Bowie is wow my pride
@2:22 Easter Egg. Ghost of Ned is at the top of the ship smoking his pipe.
Or Ned didn't really die and it was all just a stunt to make the Steve's film a hit.
Omg this is so Buckaroo Banzai and its amazing!
