  • A viewer ask me if I had any regrets selecting a DRZ400 as my bike of choice for the Colorado BDR. A great question and I thought I'd prepare a video with a more indepth answer.

As a lifetime dual sport guy I'm right there with you. If we see a new DRZ500, WR500 or CRF500 Rally I'll happily give up my high performance maintenance queen for one.

      What's your current ride? KTM

@@BestoftheBackroads 450L. The maintenance is pretty minor actually but it's still not a bike you'd want to commute on and roll up the miles.

@@BestoftheBackroads BTW, your bike looks way better with the big dual sport tank. 👍

Wish SWM would sell the Six 500 over here in USA

I just looked the SWM brand up. The 500 looks about right. You ride any of their bikes? A new one on me...but promising looking bikes.

Nice video. I did 1000 miles on the Oregon BDR on my DRZ in June, so much fun. Previously I tried it on a Vstrom, the Z is a much better choice. I'm surprised you didn't add a windscreen, I found it helped on the highway sections, esp. in the rain. I put Happy Trails pannier racks on mine, only weigh a pound each. We only got to 7000 feet, so I didn't run into carb issues. Might have to think about upgrading.
Being a vain idiot, I didn't install a bigger tank. Only had to borrow some gas from a buddy once, but was always worried about when we'd find the next gas station. 120 miles of range is too tight. that will probably be my next upgrade, but I'm not gonna go with the clear tank, too damn fugly!

The Oregon BDR is on my list! That one looks fun.
Oh man…slabbing back from the NEBDR it started to rain and I was dying for a windscreen. I go back and forth on getting one. Most of my riding is in the East TN, West NC and North GA area and in the spring and summer trails are so overgrown with vegetation it’d be a detriment off road. What windscreen did you put on yours? I may re look at that.
I’d look at a Jet kit if your going to be up over 10K feet a lot. In fairness I was able to nurse it up over every other pass. However when I go back to CO I’ll definitely jet for higher elevation.
