This should have triple the views that it has today, just tremendously well captured and narrated. This is the type of content we need more of on RUclips...
Brent this was really well shot and edited. Having done this myself I know how much work these two videos were. Incredibly polished and in my opinion the best of the BDR Videos on RUclips. Well done and look forward to more of your content!!
Hey Tim, you are right, it's a lot of work, but I like to think of it as a labour of love. I really enjoy the video production side of it, and I love doing the editing and post production. Especially as right now I'm locked back up in Sydney in forced 2 week quarantine in a hotel room. Glad you enjoyed the videos.
Brent, Nicely done, filming, production, and narration! It was a great experience watching your video. I agree with one of your previous comments. It’s not the bike itself that’s most important, it’s the places your bike will take you and the people you meet along the way!
As I watch your Idaho series for the third time to inspire my partner and friends to finally knock this ride off the bucket list. I want to say thanks again, Not only do you inspire riders but as content creators you you demonstrate the level one can aspire to. Your use of music and video brings out solid emotion in the viewer. Not to cast stones, but this is the best BDR content period. The foundation should take notice.
Ehhh it's kind of a crap showing of idaho back country routes..the route is more community support then discovery.. I would rank the bdr route a 4 out of 10 for a route
I just finished the Idaho BDR 3 weeks ago. You have done an awesome job in both vids of showing what it was all about. Not overly hard, but a beautiful ride and a great part of the country to see and I live in Colorado, USA. Thank you so much for putting this together.
Glad you enjoyed this. I'm getting ready to do two more BDRs this year. But if you liked this, then you might like the series I did on riding the Flinders Ranges (I think it's my best videos yet ) ruclips.net/video/qm0k6L7geP8/видео.html
I've ridden part of this BDR from Elko into Jarbidge and then to Twin Falls Idaho. It was Amazing! Did it on My GS1200.A GS is just a Big Dirtbike if you have Dirtbike skills. Love your channel Brent and now you have me thinking about going to Iceland.
All I can say is job well done~!! you inspired me to get out there and do some of the great trails that we are all so blessed to be able to ride! thank you for these videos!
Excellent... Yes.. Job done. It's great sharing experiences with others via video so that it inspires them to create their own adventure and see it for themselves.
Brent, what a fantastic video! I really enjoyed watching both parts. Great variety of shots and nice narration. Thank you for sharing this - cheers from Germany, Oliver
Incredible views, beautiful tracks. I'm speechless. There is beauty in simplicity. I love open spaces. The drone is kicking it out of the park, well done and thank you!
You said, "If this video inspires just one person.....then job done". Well, job extremely well-done. I'm sold. Getting into this ASAP. Thanks for an awesome piece of videography and explanation - Can't wait! Cheers!
I grew up in Glenn’s Ferry and know that last section well. You did it justice. Thank you for presenting my home state and our countryside so well. I saw some familiar sites and some I have always wanted to see.
Great ad for BDR's . I've been lucky enough to do two trips to the US on bike rides which we organised totally by ourselves but can see the advantages of an organised ride. Well done and thanks.
The bar is raised to a point one wonders how it can be bettered. But no doubt technology has a few surprises in store. Cheers Brent, that was an unforgettable experience.
I want to do this so bad, but I'm short and old cant do these big bikes bmw cross/rally bikes. If tours were organized with CT90s or that type of bike would be great. and fun.
Thanks DCDS.... I'm getting ready to head out to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia for a 9-day solo outback ride which is going to be stunning. By riding solo I'm going to really focus on the cinematography... so keep an eye out for this one in May.
Thanks Brent. What an amazing experience. Truly magnificent scenery and magic back roads. Makes our Aussie landscape look boring . Thanks for taking us along.
Hey Rob, I'd debate you there. We have some incredible scenery... Blue Mtns, Vic High Country, Outback and desert. I'm doing the Flinders Ranges in about a month and I think that will be spectacular.
@@brentbat Hi Brent. Yes, I agree the Blue Mountains, VHC and Flinders are spectacular. When you get into the Flinders be sure to visit Doug Sprigg, at Arkaroola, who a keen bike rider and collector.

By accident while just roaming around thru Montana and Idaho, and then down into Nevada, I dropped down into Jarbidge myself and hit up that same bar your video ended on. What a great little town and a great little bar.
Ok, I'm sold. Doing the IBDR next year on my Triumph Tiger Explorer. I've done the OBDR and WABDR but on my KLR so I am looking forward to taking the big bike on this ride! Great video! One of the best on the tube! Keep em coming!
I'm from NE MN which is a beautiful area, but US 12 (even though it's paved) from Kooskia to Lolo is unmatched! I can't believe that one rider swam in his riding gear!
You have inspired me to plan out this trip. Recently rode 5 days in Moab Utah, pretty spectacular scenery along white rim and potash road among other routes. Looking forward to the next trip. Thx for taking the time to put these videos of the Idaho BDR together.
Thanks so much for hard work putting this together. I've watched many different videos on the Idaho BDR and I have to say yours is by far the best. I've only done the Magruder section because I was on my way to Montana from Oregon, but I plan on doing the whole thing. I'll be 70 this month and I'm raring to go!
70 years young eh? You'll have no problems doing the Idaho BDR, it's a great route. Earlier this year I ran into a guy in a town called Dargo in Victoria Australia. He was 71 years old and he was riding a KTM 690 with a bunch of other Tasmanian riders... and they were riding some hard core technnical stuff. I looked at him and hoped I'd still be riding when I was 70.... So good on you. If you have ridden Magruder, then you have a very good sense for what teh whole BDR is like. Stunning.
I’m 60+ now and heard tales of Lolo & Magruder 15 years ago before BDR was thing. I had a KLR here in Minnesota, but North Dakota & Montana in between. No GPS nav at the time, just a Benchmark Atlas of Idaho. I traded my back seats for a Nomad camping setup, loaded up the little dog, and set out (solo) for Idaho intending to find my way as close to these notorious backroads as my Honda Fit could go. Headed into the wild intending to back up, if I couldn’t turn around, when I came to something impassable, and I’ve had to do that a few times. I’ve spent an occasional 1/2 hour moving trees or tossing rocks into the ruts to make a little wheel bridge, (I picked C) maybe that rock that trashed your rear wheel was one of them? I apologize if so! It’s often a 5 mph crawl in the Fit where a bike rolls through at 30-40 so my schedule is a little slower, but the trade off is saying WOW & stopping and camping when I come across an inviting site. I did get stopped by snow across the road in mid July just west of Rocky Ridge Lake on the first try at Lolo Motorway #500 but came back in early September and made it through. September is also the month Lewis & Clark nearly starved there in a snow storm. Being alone, with no support crew & low ground clearance, isn’t your style but works for me. I met & camped next to Tony from Backcountry ByWays out in the middle of Magruder corridor. You must have crossed the Salmon since they tore out the SCARY looking suspension bridge, or you definitely would have included a view crossing it! The new bridge is not so interesting. I crossed the old one, then up French Creek road for a swim at Burgdorf on the way to Elk Summit, Yellow Pine, and out via McCall. I’m kinda putting together my own 4 wheel route version of the BDR. There are parts like that 50” wide bridge on your map, where I can’t go, but the vast majority gets driven by Forest Service personnel in pickup trucks. An expensive fly in / guided bike safari is a great way to do it from Down Under, but if you have the time & are capable of Nomad style camping out of a reliable vehicle there is no reason to avoid the back country, even something like a Fit driven across country on the interstate. I may have an HRV next trip and the increased ground clearance will make dodging rocks & ruts less stressful. Your awesome drone work & video production could win awards! The reality of the journey is maybe less dramatic than moments that make the highlight reel, but I suppose that’s by design? I still have to get down to Jarbridge but will make it this year I think. Kinda looking forward to that Australian like desert stretch too, depending on weather. Like you found, the tricky part of completing these journeys is dealing with changing environmental conditions, which can change drastically with elevation & time of year. High places can be impassable due to snow, landslides or washouts, and a week later FIRE season begins and can shut down entire segments. I’ve driven Hwy 12 along the Lochsa in choking smoke so thick it was nearly unbearable and the fires were nowhere close. Coming down from cool & comfortable camping along a creek in the mountains, to find it 95+ degrees in the Snake River plain with no shade, especially with little dog, requires constant air conditioning for me and makes for an impossible situation. At least on a bike, you can take off the jacket, go fast enough to make the sweat evaporate, and cover enough ground to get to someplace bearable in a few hours. I’m working on a retirement plan in Idaho so I can be close enough to read conditions and make shorter trips when things are just right!
Hey there Bitterrootbackroads. Sounds like you have had some great experiences. Yes, while I didn't camp on this trip, I do a fair bit of back country moto camping and love it. You Yanks have so many great back country trails that are marked out well by the BDR movement. So enjoy your retirement and your riding. Cheers Brent
Excellent work. I did this BDR three years ago and haven't shut up about it yet. It was great to see so many familiar places in your videos. I can still see, hear, and smell my week in Idaho. Well done.
Hey Max Yes, I remember seeing you guys.... Thanks for the comments on my video... it was a labor of love. I get to combine to of my passions, film making and adventure bike riding.
Wow! What a well done video. You definitely inspired me to do the IDBDR. Top notch, bang up job. Thank you so much for this video. This makes me proud to be a motorcyclist.
Mate this is truly one of the all time adventure bike videos. Your colour grade on the skydio was perfect, subtle but very cinematic. Loved the voiceover and all the content. Looked amazing on my tv. Been thinking about getting a skydio for a few month's but I think this was the nail in the coffin. Thanks legend.
Hey David... I'm glad the video scratched your itches :-) Yes, I love combining my two passions of Adv riding and Video / photography. A match made in heaven for me.
@@Redhawk03a Hey David, Yes, I had a Fuji X-T4 in my pelican case with a zoom lens and also a fast f1.4 prime. The pelican case gives great protection.
Another superb high quality presentation Brent. From NZ, I have ridden lots of miles on Idaho’s outstanding roads but not on dirt, I love Idaho on two wheels, looking forward to more inspirational videos from your adventures.
Hey Fabio, we had pretty good weather, although we did have to dodge wildfires. In terms of the riding speed, everyone in the group rides at their pace. When I'm videoing Neil, we often crank it up a bit to get some better shots, but usually, we are just cruising at a comfortable speed.
Absolutely... I swam in everything except shoes and socks.... It was like air conditioning for about 30 min... then I was bone dry. Yes, that peak off Elk Summit is incredible if it is clear of snow.
I just got done camping in northern Idaho and western Montana and I have to say it was so absolutely beautiful that I can’t wait to go back next year. I will make sure I spend more time there than I did this time. I would love to experience that adventure on a motorcycle, but I don’t ride. I’d do that adventure in my 4x4 though.
Hey Ben, glad you are enjoying the channel, it is a labour of love. I get to combine my two passions in one (video making and adventure bike riding). Enjoy.
These two videos were awesome! Really enjoyed them, the drone footage adds a great perspective to these areas. The Magruder has been on my list for years and I've never managed to complete it for various reasons, this makes me want to go back to Idaho and ride it. Thanks for putting these videos together, much appreciated!
The journey was awesome sir... I'm more motivated and inspired and feeling positive of bike touring... just waiting for the day when I start leaving in touring world like you... thanks alot... best luck for ur next journey see you soon...
The Skydio is absolutely amazing how it tracks you! Still second to the amazing footage you put together. Best video series I've seen in a super long time man. Appreciate you taking the time to put this together. A+ job! I'm heading out there next year on a CT125!! I'll just capture all the footage and send it to you for final edits! 😀
Hey PSBE Adventures.. YOu'll have a ball... I hope the wildfires dont block too many trails for you. One tip, when you planning to ride Lolo motorway, check the conditions with Lochsa Lodge. The reason is the Forestry Dept said the trail was closed on their website, but Lochsa lodge confirmed it was open and that riders came through the day before. Regarding an editing... I'm just about to do a series on all my editing tips, so you have no excuse now ;-)
Indeed, Job Done! ✅ think I will use the free time between finishing my masters degree and starting the new job this summer on my old KLR650C. Thanks for the great videos, all the best from Germany ✌🏻
If I was Bart Simpson I would write on the board 100 times not to be jealous :) The knife on the map made me laugh few times but the views, the photography ... just wow! thanks
Hey Dror Yeah, I was pretty fortunate to do this ride. It was epic. Regarding the knife... apparently it is a special forces "thing".... I've had a few people comment that this is standard for briefings in Special Forces.
@@brentbat I'm pretty sure none of my dozens of friends and their sons who served in special forces received or delivered an operational briefing with a knife. There is a telescopic rode, laser marker or digital screens but hey, it adds to the adventurous atmosphere the amazing scenery editing and photography. One of your best!
@@brentbat Could be but I doubt it. There are dozens of people, a lot of additional information beyond the map and there are more convenient means. Doesn't really matter, just an anecdote. Here the heat forces us to stay in the air conditioners instead of riding so all I have left is to fiddle with nonsense :)
You have done a fanominal job editing, and showing us, the viewers , what it is life to embark on a wonderful Jurny like this. I was very much inspired by this seriouse and would love to whatch future videos
Hey Tyler, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love capturing my adventures and giving viewers a sense for what Adventure bike riding is all about. Brent, thanks very much for sharing your adventure. I live in Montana and I just spent two weeks exploring Northern Idaho mainly hiking. You've given me the motivation to get back there, this time on my bike and explore the Idaho BDR! Thanks again and keep the adventure going!
Thanks Michael. Yes, I'll definitely keep the adventure going. I just got back from an epic 8-day solo ride in the Flinders ranges, and I"m preparing for 2 more BDR rides this year.
Extremely well done! Thanks for sharing! Loved the drone footage and your explanation of how the drone works. A drone may be in my future, the BDR is definitely in my future! Thanks again!
Bravo! Great videos of your Idaho BDR experience. Thanks for visiting my former home states and creating the videos. You made me sentimental now that I am back to the Southeast US. I'm in the process of putting my bike back on the road/trails after it sitting in the shed way too long (life happens). I need some good rides to clear the head.
Thanks Kenny, Yes, it's a labour of love. I really enjoy the video making process, so for me it's not a chore, but lots of fun to produce these videos.
For as beautiful as the Macgruder area is can you imagine how much more so it would be if not for the devastating wildfires that destroyed so much timber? Nice job on your editing, drone shots and narration.
Superb drone video with the Skydio which is a single purpose drone exactly suited to the purpose you used it for. As a DJI high end licensed pilot drone user myself, I have to tell you there is nothing yet in their stable that can come close to the tremendous follow me mode with superb AI avoidance of the Skydio. Superb flying and video all around....Well done !!
Hey Robert You are spot on. I have owned DJI drones and love them EXCEPT for their autonomous capabilities. Skydio wins that race hands down. But if I was looking for a drone for piloting... then the DJI runs rings around the Skydio.
Great film Brent, very inspiring. I had thoughts of making the Idaho BDR my first, and this is all the convincing it'll take. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I've been riding street for several years, this video has really opened my mind to getting into adv riding. This looks like such a blast. I've driven through many of these areas myself, but there is so much more access (and fun imo) on a bike. I don't quite have that BMW money yet, but one day!
You definitely don't need a BMW. In Australia I sold my BMW and bought a lighter weight (and cheaper) adventure bike. Some great bikes around sedond hand that don't cost much... and are fun to work on.
@@brentbat true true, even starting on something like a DRZ isn't a bad idea. Can throw those things off a cliff and they won't be much worse for wear. Might not be the worst idea for someone with minimal off road experience lol.
@@sawyer4981 Totally agree. Getting a cheap simple bike like a DRZ or KLR is a great way to get into it. Then you can learn, drop the bike without worrying about it, and probably do a lot of the servicing work yourself. You can always upgrade from there.

Cheers
Brent
Excellent work. I did this BDR three years ago and haven't shut up about it yet. It was great to see so many familiar places in your videos. I can still see, hear, and smell my week in Idaho. Well done.
Yeah, it's a pretty special place. Glad that you enjoyed the video, and I hope it bought back some great memories.
We passed you guys as you were coming down off Trinity Ridge and we were climbing up. Amazing drone work, beautiful, beautiful footage.
Hey Max
Yes, I remember seeing you guys.... Thanks for the comments on my video... it was a labor of love. I get to combine to of my passions, film making and adventure bike riding.
Great drone & 360 cam work. Well done overall. 🙌🏾
Another great video , glad you made it back home safe, looking forward to some 701 husky videos.
Thanks Steve, Yes, I'm dying to get back on the Husky... I've got almost all my parts now to complete my Adventure build.
Wow! What a well done video. You definitely inspired me to do the IDBDR. Top notch, bang up job. Thank you so much for this video. This makes me proud to be a motorcyclist.
Hey Paul, glad I inspired you. It is a wonderful ride.... hopefully this will be the first of many BDRs. Enjoy.
You wont regret the skydio, check out my video where I test it out earlier in my channel.
Photo nut and adv rider here: these videos scratched all the itches. WOW and thank you for sharing.
Hey David... I'm glad the video scratched your itches :-)
Yes, I love combining my two passions of Adv riding and Video / photography. A match made in heaven for me.
@@brentbat was that a Fuji x-pro in your hard case? I thought about bringing my Leica M2 62 on my last ADV Trip but was afraid it would get busted
Thanks for your note Keith. Yes, it was a pleasure riding Idaho on dirt. I'm doing two more BDRs this year. Can't wait.
3:30 jeee, that's fast.....
A small group like that is ideal I believe - and you have been blessed by good weather and a very experienced leader!
Hey Fabio, we had pretty good weather, although we did have to dodge wildfires. In terms of the riding speed, everyone in the group rides at their pace. When I'm videoing Neil, we often crank it up a bit to get some better shots, but usually, we are just cruising at a comfortable speed.
@@brentbat thanks for your feedback!
Getting a laugh at the Salmon river cool down - leave the clothes and jacket on! Cool tip for that peak off Elk summit at 16:00 Great drone footage!
Absolutely... I swam in everything except shoes and socks.... It was like air conditioning for about 30 min... then I was bone dry. Yes, that peak off Elk Summit is incredible if it is clear of snow.
great Vid thanks for sharing. this has inspired me and my buddies to do the IDBDR fall 2023
Awesome. YOu will love the adventure.... have fun.
So enjoyable to see through your eyes. Thank you Brent
Thank you for sharing this. I'm yet to do the Idaho BDR, so it's really cool to see it.
Great job with the video! 🤙🤙🤙
You can definitely experience almost all of these tracks in a 4x4. You would love it.
Such a fantastic video!!! Very professional!!! Thank you for sharing... This is definitely on my bucket list..
i found this channel yesterday and im loving it so far.
I'm just about to do a series on all my editing tips, so you have no excuse now ;-)
@@brentbat heard that! Thanks man!!! All the best to ya!
Indeed, Job Done! ✅ think I will use the free time between finishing my masters degree and starting the new job this summer on my old KLR650C. Thanks for the great videos, all the best from Germany ✌🏻
Great video production. It’s the next best thing to being there.
Thanks for the ride Brent. It was awesome
Great riding and beautiful work with the drone as well!
If I was Bart Simpson I would write on the board 100 times not to be jealous :) The knife on the map made me laugh few times but the views, the photography ... just wow! thanks
Hey Dror
Yeah, I was pretty fortunate to do this ride.
@@orpaztron Thats interesting, because in part 1, Somebody remarked that this was standard. Maybe it is a US or UK thing.
@@brentbat Could be but I doubt it. There are dozens of people, a lot of additional information beyond the map and there are more convenient means. Doesn't really matter, just an anecdote. Here the heat forces us to stay in the air conditioners instead of riding so all I have left is to fiddle with nonsense :)
superb 2 part video. I just bought a GS 1250 so it was nice to see them in action. I'll be finding some dirt! so your video served it's purpose. :-)
If you are interested, this was my latest adventure in the Australian outback ruclips.net/video/qm0k6L7geP8/видео.html
But I'm doing two more BDRs this year (Oregon and Colorado).
Excellent.... glad I helped motivate you to get back out there. Yes, going on a trip really clears my head and rejuvinates me.
Wow, very nice. Amazing footage. I will ride some BDRs!
It was amazing. Awesome views, awesome shots 💥
Indeed: job done!
Thanks for sharing your tour.
That was truly spectacular !! Thanks for taking us along & explaining how the drone works !!!!
Beautifully shot and edited. Some of the best drone footage I have seen. What an amazing route!
Thanks... when you have such epic scenery as this... it's hard to do a bad video ;-)
Great video Brent! And yes, I believe you’ve inspired a few folks to get out and hit the dirt. I’m definitely on that list!
Job Done
What an amazing trip. Outstanding video, too, btw.
Amazing ❤️ inspiring and informative for moto traveller...... Salute and respect From Bangladesh ❤️🎩🇧🇩🎩
Looks like I'll be riding the BDRs in my future trips !
Excellent cinematography, editing, and narration. You obviously put a lot of energy into this, and it shows. Thanks for sharing!
Outstanding video, on my bucket list.
Well that adds the Idaho BDR to my list, Great video!
Great Idaho bdr video, love the drone footage.
Hey Robert
You are spot on. I have owned DJI drones and love them EXCEPT for their autonomous capabilities. Skydio wins that race hands down. But if I was looking for a drone for piloting... then the DJI runs rings around the Skydio.
Fantastic video. That was so much fun to watch. Thank you!
Great film Brent, very inspiring. I had thoughts of making the Idaho BDR my first, and this is all the convincing it'll take. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
CONSIDER ME INSPIRED ...awesome video tyvm
One of the best put together videos I've seen. Amazing quality 👌 and footage. Job well done. Leaving for COBDR on Friday!
Hey Jason, well I hope that the video makes you even more excited to do COBDR... That is on my list for sure. Have a ball.
It's too bad you missed Lunch Peak. Last I was up there in late June 2020 we did have to hike it due to snow. But it was still spectacular. Great video! I love the Salmon River section.
I guess I'm going to just have to ride it again ;-)
Truly Breathtaking shots , Thanks
Awesome ride mate and love the footage job done well thanks
You definitely inspired me. Loved it!
