Hey, I love seeing a gen 1 KLR still doing it. I love my 2015 gen 2, and am planning a TAT trip from CO to TN then FL next month. Felt for you on the two drops. These guys are not fun to pick up, but this is what separates us from the rest of the motorcycle world. Each big trip is a when never an if.
You did better filming than me. Drone shots, multiple cameras. You did it a month after me and the air was a lot less smoky too. At 9:10 you killed your motorcycle at the creek crossing EXACTLY where I did. Great footage, thanks for sharing!
1st Gen KLR is an awesome bike for backroad travel. I love mine. I couldn't tell in the video if you were running a fork brace, but that combined with progressive rate fork springs completely transformed mine. So much better handling in the rough stuff. Thanks for sharing!
As a gen 1 KLR rider from the desert backcountry and rimlands of Southern Africa, I found this resonant. Nothing like being out on your own in hillcountry and dropping your bike on technical roads with no one else around ...!
Nice video, that creek crossing brings back some memories when I crossed it a couple of years ago on my fully loaded weestorm the water was much higher and faster flowing, back then it took all 3 of us to walk each bike across. nice that your music wasn't way louder that your voice, good drone work without being to much, good camara work. we only made it as far as Lolo the snow got to deep. may get to finnish it this coming july or do the new WYBDR insted after doing the CDT....
That crossing would be no joke if the water was higher. I'm super excited about doing the WYBDR, the teaser video looks awesome. The CDT is on my list to do as well. Thanks for watching!
Hello! My new friend. Wow! It's a motorcycle trip video that gives people fun, adventure, and healing. Especially, the scenery of nature is fantastic. Have a happy end of the year. 👍👍👍🤙👌
I agree! So many people add that cheesy imovie guitar loop to their videos and it just kills it. I personally prefer to hear nothing but engine but this was pretty cool!
Thanks! When I made this video I thought a couple people would maybe see it, but it was mostly just a thing to show my friends. Its amazing to hear someone all the way from France watched. Merci!
Great job with the cinematography and editing. Very relatable ; your coming from a good place w your presentation , sequence and dialogue. Prop’s to your Gen 1 KLR which agin makes it all the more easy to identify with. Thx for taking us along w u!
Hey Brother, nice video! Retiring from the Military in 2023 and super excited to be bringing my R1200GS home with me. I’ll be settling down in southern Idaho upon retirement and am so looking forward to doing the IdahoBDR! Maybe I’ll see you on the road or trail in the future.
Wonderful Video! How refreshing to see such a well made video of a "BDR ride." As a fellow KLR Rider and looking forward to doing my first BDR as soon as I find someone to ride with, I thoroughly enjoyed your story. I subscribed and I'm looking forward to seeing anything else you produce.
Dude! I so feel your pain when you dumped it twice in 5 feet. Love that color on the KLR! I just upgraded to a Honda Africa Twin. But I couldn't part w my KLR! So now I have a buddy bike!
Yeah, picking it up the first time was no big deal, but twice that quick is tough. The Africa Twin looks sweet! It's hard to beat the basic go anywhere of the KLR though.
Nice job on the video. Bummer about fire closures but seems to be the norm here these days. I'm still trying to finish from Darby to Canadian border. Snowed out when we attempted it in 2019.
Hey thanks! I don't know about skills, but I'm definitely having fun with it. Appreciate you subscribing, hopefully there will be a few fun rides this year.
Nicely done. Great videos. Like seeing the route on the map. I would enjoy seeing more with you at the campsite, setting up, eating etc. That's part of the journey. Thanks.
Thanks! I really appreciate the input. That's one of those things I know I should do, but usually at the end of the day I just want to set up camp and eat haha
Cool video, thanks. Had a similar trip in Colarado around the Alpine Loop this July. I learned alot about over packing, lol. Want to do this one, gently breaking it to the wife :)
Thank you for making a very nice video to watch in the winter time, waiting for the sun to turn and the spring to come! Very nice mix of photo and commentaries that made the trip even more interesting. Well done and you have a new subscriber 🙂
Honestly, the KLR does the twisties and highways better than you would expect. I had a Versys 650 for years, and the KLR couldn't match it, but it wasn't super far off.
Nice job on the solo effort! Great footage both go pro and drone! We rode north to south 5 years ago and got kicked out below lowman due to fire closures so want to come back and do the whole thing again. Passed this summer because of the smoke as the views of the mountain ranges are so great that is a big part of the ride. You missed some cool stuff up by blue cabin and on both sides of wallace but I see you found the train tunnels. Hopefully summer of 22, california won't be polluting north america with their annual forest fire festival and we can get a ride in!
I was super bummed about missing the blue cabin, it seems like a pretty iconic part of the ride. The train tunnels were super cool. The main route that parallels the tunnels was closed, but I wanted to ride them anyways so it worked out just fine for me. Fingers crossed for a better fire season this year!
It was the most challenging part of the ride that I did for sure. After dropping the bike I forgot to turn the camera back on which was a bummer. That's a rough spot to get injured! Hopefully you all made it out okay!
@@ParaMoto_ADV Luckily he broke the non weight bearing bone just above the boot. He was able to complete the trip, but in pain. He didn't learn it was broken until he got home. He was pretty tough. He broke it at the end of day 1 of 4.
Really nice work on the mix of video perspectives. I know it takes time to set up the camera to catch your approach and exit, so kudos to you. Looks like most of the tracks are quite do-able with moderate riding skills while a couple sections demand greater attention to picking your line. You inspired me.
It was a pleasure watching the video. I thought your music choice was perfectly matched to how you approached the ride? Kinda relaxed, shit happens, roll with the punches vibe. I felt for you when it came to picking up the KLR. She’s a big girl naked, never mind loaded! The recap at the end of each day gave me a pretty good idea of what it was like and it was good to see that you don’t need the latest and greatest to do the trip. IBDR is on the bucket list for this Canadian once we can travel again. Thanks and safe travels.
Thanks, I appreciate the view and the comment! I just tried to pick music that fits the vibe of being out in the beauty of the world by yourself I guess, I'm glad it seemed to come across well! I dont think how new your bike is, or how many CC's it has makes a difference in how much fun you have. Adventure is about getting out there, whether or not your bike is shiny and new or not. Canada looks like an amazing place to ride as well! Banff is on my bucket list for when we can start going up there again!
Great video and editing man! I'm on the east coast in the blue ridge mountains and love this area, but I'm ready to get out that way next summer. My buddy lives in Fairfield Idaho and I hope to go scoop him up and do some of the BDR. Possibly do it on our CT125s! Appreciate the videos man!
Great vid! Friend and I are planning to do this in 2025. What time of the year did you do this trip and would you do anything differently about it looking back? Thanx in advance for your reply! Cheers from Denver Colorado
Thanks man! You guys are going to have a great time for sure. I used a Parrot Anafi drone. I found a good sale on it a while back, otherwise I would have gone with one of the DJI drones. If you have more specific questions feel free to ask!
Nice job. Cool to see you do it solo and on an old klr. Both would make me a bit more nervous. But you answered my question, could a klr be ok on a bdr, which other than the two drops, looks doable. So thanks!
The KLR was a pretty perfect bike for this ride, I really couldn't have asked for anything more than it gave me. Doing Burnt Knob solo made me a bit nervous, but otherwise it wasn't bad. Part of the experience for me is the solitude, which is one of the reasons I love doing these trips solo. I have a Garmin InReach, which is some nice peace of mind out there.
Great job on the video. We did the Idaho BDR a few months ago but the fires were a real pain in the ass to negotiate. Can’t imagine doing it by myself. Did you have any breakdowns or any bike issues? Some of those areas are so remote I think being by myself would freak me out so I am impressed you did it by yourself.
Yeah, the fires really threw things off. Thankfully I am in Idaho so I can go back and do the sections I had to skip. I the only issue I had with the bike was the left foot peg. I had the bolts get stripped riding in Colorado last year, so I fixed it with helicoils before this trip. The helicoils failed day 3 of this trip, so I had to use bailing wire and zip ties to hold the foot peg on. For the most part it was fine, but I tried to avoid standing as much as I could to keep pressure off of it. Other than that the bike ran great. The KLR is a beast.
Nice video. I see you had a great time out there. I have to say you have very good video editing skill. Great job. Enjoy the ride. What is the app you use for showing up your road map?
Fantastic video friend!! I have the exact same plastic cargo carrier on my DR650, how does it hold up doing a BDR type ride? I was apprehensive to take it on anything crazy or technical like a BDR. I was nervous it being a cheap Amazon $50 carrier it would fall off midway through a BDR trip.
Well it didnt fall off, so there's that! Haha, it actually held up really well. It's a great little box, but I think next ride like this I will be taking it off. It sure adds some up high weight, and it rattles quite a bit.
I appreciate your sharing the hard times & falls. They tell me more about what it's like than the polished videos that gloss over the problems.
that was nice of your Dr's office to loan you the soundtrack ; -) great show, thanks for posting

No fork brace, but it's something I have definitely considered getting. Thanks for the info!
Just found your channel now, and I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos. We have a similar way of filming, editing, and telling a story.
I didn't think these routes were possible without a brand new 1200GS and $10k in gear. /s Well done!

Southern Africa must be an awesome place to be an adventure rider! thanks for watching

Yeah I was there too. July. 2020 was nice and clear and now closed roads. 2021 kind of sucked. Lolo was closed, but had my blue heaven all to myself.
