  • We've been asked to help 16 year old Kiah who is currently fixing up a 1982 Holden WB 1 Tonner. There's some rust repair needed on the cab corner so Bad Chad is going to repair it and mentor the process at the same time 🔨

    I think it's incredibly admirable and inspiring that Bad Chad and Jolene want to keep travelling and visiting their fans around the world when they can, or at least once a year. It really shows what true passion and commitment they have to the cars world, they create and the people they interact with. This kind of devotion is truly inspiring and I hope they can continue having these amazing experiences. Excellent teaching today!

      Kidding aside, certainly a new twist on Chad & Jolene's show and actually would make a great concept to see,hear and show off their skills to a much larger audience . They make such a great team and between them, are fascinating to watch and learn from.. Kudos indeed.

      I kept thinking perhaps the young woman owning the truck might see automotive body work as an interesting & creative trade she could pursue. Chad's explaining his thinking highlights that it really is a creative & interesting trade. Few young women are ever exposed to what's involved in such trades. If they were I think far more would pursue the career opportunities in the automotive trades.

With my first project, a Beetle, with regards to inaccessible areas, and I’m on a budget too, so I put rust treatment in a weed sprayer bottle and fed the hose through the heat channels to treat the surface rust, then later on after treatment was dry I switched to Penetrol, it took a couple of weeks for the smell to go but alls well now. 48:35 😊

    A bit over 30 years ago as a young fella I worked on my first car. The entire sill was replaced under the entire length of the door, I pulled out chicken wire and old big!!
    I too used a heavy gauge “white coat/galvanised steel”. I only had a stick welder, and boy THAT was a challenge not to eat into the thin original body, LOL.
    “Hellava” was a 1974 HJ Holden Kingswood sedan.
    Anyway, I used a Dulux two pack industrial paint, is it called Luxathane?? which was white and the black Durathane for the boot and towbar.
    Man it came up nice!
    I absolutely loved seeing this skilled tradesmen work his magic! It brought back fond memories.
    Thanks.

    again Chad confuses weld thru primer with undercoat. second never push or prod on existing metal that isn't damaged, when he pushes it in to match up with his hastedly made patch he changes the existing shape, in effect making it wavy. Next, he was going on about how thick the patch material was, and you can see him really having to heave to push it flush with existing material, well, the metal is going to want to spring back and that is going to pull the existing metal out of the shape it was, thus making more work later. You always want to shape the patch as close as possible BEFORE installing. the edge of the vehicle frame rail and his hammer there could easily have been used to at least get the jist of the shape put in the patch. Lastly, if you can, always round the corners of a patch...it makes a little more work up front, but 90 degree corners create heat sinks when welding that tend to sink in. in this case it might not be as big a deal since the patch material is so thick, but its good practice.
    lastly, since the rocker needs repair as well it would prob be best to get in that pinchweld and redo that as well, rust on both sides likely means rust in the weld seam.

    • @dwaynelharnaha7941
      @dwaynelharnaha7941 4 месяца назад

      Yes he should have done the rocker first and did that one seam folded over , these people were not very prepared, in any case metal working should have been done to form crowns off truck first. I would love to see him attend some metal forming classes and share with us.

    The simple and effective solution for that rust inside cavities (as long as it is not too thick and far gone) is to spray and saturate cavities with lanoline oil/grease, Fluid Film or other. This works straight on rust, actually works best if some rust is present, goes into the steel better then. Saved my 1977 Ford Escort from major welding as it was caught in time.

    I like to watch Bad Chad weld and his work ethics. And how you can make minimal tools and equipment work for you.
