You don’t come across like ”one of those guys” you come a cross like a knowladgeable, helpful, fun, humble, generous and good way kinda crazy fella! And I”m sorry to disappoint but you kinda made me wanna start hammocking 2 years ago and now about 150 outdoor nights in a hammock later.. so fewr trees for you :) I’m very greatful for your videos, and the time you spen shooting and editing them. Just keep doing what you’re doing as long as you enjoy it.. much love from Sweden!

When i went down this rabbit hole 5 yrs ago i did not where to start every where i went comments said go see shugs videos the rest is history. Thanks so much shug for everything ur the best

Shug, I'm listening to your video enjoying breakfast from the hammock in my backyard testing my 10 degree top quilt and 20 degree underquilt. Love your videos and thank you for inspiring us. Warm wishes from New Richmond, WI.
Nothing like a good snooze test! Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Thanks Shug. The introduction of the Ridge Line to a Hammock makes the largest difference in comfort and set-up time. My Ridge Line addition was the greatest thing I ever did and sharing that knowledge converted more tent campers than anything else.
Yo Bentley
Agreed!
Makes setting up infinitely quicker, easier and with way more consistency!
Even if just to hang stuff off of it.
Thanks Shug. Fall finally seems to have come to Georgia! Time for camping and hunting. You are proof that Friends don't need to see each other every day but touching base from time to time warms the heart.
Wait a while to see friends and there is plenty fresh to chat about.
Really appreciate your wealth of knowledge on hammocking Shug. You're the reason I got into them and I have NEVER slept better.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Always a good day when a Shug video shows up in the feed! Thanks!
Whooooo Buddy)))))
My first and only hammock is a Dream Hammock Darien. It's fantastic. You can't really do any hammock camping unless you have the skills to throw up a tarp. So that's what I like best about all this. It's a challenge to learn the skills of knot tying and tarp pitching. A good hammock and tarp set up is really a mini engineering feat
True. It is a process. Whoooo Buddy))))
Just spent the week hammock camping down in Gettysburg Pa. Between the autumn air and a hammock. Amazing. Great to come back and see a new Shug vid. Thanks for everything.
Good times. Whooooo Buddy)))))
Another great video, Shug! I camp in mine (17 and counting). I also sleep in mine every night in the house. I can't seem to get restful sleep unless I'm in one of my hammocks!
I've been following you since I was in the Hammock Forums. I always look forward to your videos! Thank You so much for "doing you" and sharing with the world!
Been a long time. Thankee for the support! Whoooooo Buddy)))))
I’ve been sleeping in a hammock nearly every night since May 2018. Probably 30 nights total that I’ve been on anything else. It started as an experiment in prep for motorcycle camping, but my back felt so good that I moved it indoors. Thanks for all the balanced info you share on here! And for the fun! Truly inspiring and encouraging.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Great tips and talk Shug. I have a friend I was camping with about 4 or 5 years ago. He was in a hammock. I thought that was so cool. I kept asking him questions and he said watch Shug on RUclips. I said what’s RUclips. 😂🤣😂. So I got RUclips and started watching your videos. I still will do some tent backpacking but if I’m ever with a group of people I always bring my hammock. I’ve backpacked thousands of miles now with a hammock and I absolutely love it!!! And when someone new is asking me a lot of questions about hammock camping I tell them to go watch Shug on RUclips and it will help you out a lot. Thank you so much for the help you gave me about hammock camping and the help you give to the backpacking community. Your the man!!
Whooooo Buddy))))) Carry on and on.
Nice video Shug! I have an Eno Nest, off the shelf, but I spent on a top quilt and Klymit pad for warmth. I recommend Hammock Gear for quilts. All clear!!!
I approve very much of HammockGear.
Shug, thank you so much for everything you do for our community. I wanted to thank you again for giving me the info I needed to stay alive and very very comfortable. You don't know what it means for certain people.
Thankee for the kind words. Whoooooo Buddy))))
Your video's always make me smile and I enjoy your playful humor and information. Thank you for this. Always a cozy place to hang out.
Mucho thanks.
shug, when i knew i needed to buy a hammock (ground related pain) i knew i was going to need something high end right outta the gate so i watched every video i could find and read all the articles and lurked forcefully on the forum.
your videos were the most helpful to me in terms of figuring out what i would need so i only had to cry once. my starter hammock is the hammock i am still in: a blackbird XLC because of COURSE i needed a winter cover!!
after some months camping in it, i realized that the pain abatement i got camping was significantly better than sleeping in a bed. so now it's my every night bed, indoors and out.
you helped change my life!
Whoooooo Buddy)))) Good to hear.
Man,i missed ya!
Grüße aus Berlin (Germany)
Danke. I get them out when I can.
@@shugemery 👍
Shug vids are my favorite vids. Thank you for inspiring my love of hammock camping.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
I purchased my first hammock back in 2005 while overseas in the sandbox. I was doing convoy missions for Uncle Sam and there were a few times the transient "housing" was full at some of the bases we stopped at. I wasn't comfortable sleeping in the cab of the truck so I purchased a mini survival hammock at a PX after a few days of sleeping in the truck. Spent many nights hanging from the trailer when transient housing wasn't available, either full or just didn't exist where we were at. Fast forward to a couple years ago I pulled it out of storage for use at the paintball field I work at when after hours parties would run late into the summer evening. It might have shrank in storage as it wound up being tighter than I remembered and the net design of the survival hammock left its imprint on my face. This year I decided to upgrade to an ENO hammock set up after watching some of your videos and other channels about hammock camping. I am glad I did as I was able to get some over night treks in this summer and I used my ENO set up for those over night trips. I am looking forward to more backpacking trips with the hammock and hoping to get in some that are at least two nights.
Good to hear that it gave you comfort overseas...and now. Carry on!
Always glad to see a new Shug video in my feed. Sitting here having my morning coffee -- not Medaglia d'Oro, but made with my Aeropress -- and listening to Hammock Talk with Shug! . It has been about six weeks since my last night in a hammock - on a Scout campout. The reservation we were on does not permit hammocks hung from trees, so I took my ENO Nomad stand and used that. It was my first night using the Nomad, and I was pleased with how well it worked. We had a serious storm that night and it didn't budge at all. I had taken the wrong tarp -- 9 footer instead of my 12' -- and got a tiny bit of spray under the ends, but not bad at all considering how hard it was blowing. All secure in the OP!
Such is the tarp life but the benefits outweigh the cons in my opinion. Whoooo Buddy))))
I am a van hammocker. I also for many years only used a hammock at home strung up in the bedroom. It was a game changer after I broke my back. 9 year later and 50 lbs lighter I can now sleep in a bed again. The hammock is still the best. I sleep in my van hammock at home for camping and while traveling for work or otherwise.
Whooooo Buddy))))) Van Hammocker....a great name.
I'm gonna need a shug channel with just music, and preferably an album.

Hi Shug, I see hammock camping, back packing, bike packing, minimalism, etc, as my ticket to explore the world. So far, I'm just at the beginning place. I'm 68, and reasonably fit and healthy . I'm planning to go to the Philippines by the end of November. Thank you for your contributions to the Hammock Community.
I know what it is like to be in our 60's. I'm 61. I admire your spirit! Whoooo Buddy))))
I really appreciate all the advice, instruction, and insight you’ve given in your videos. To say it’s been helpful would be an understatement.
Whooooo Buddy))))
As a hammock enthusiast I often think about such things and it only seems natural to try to share the joys of increased comfort the hammock provides with others. After decades of tenting on rock and root, the hammock was the answer for my aged body. Yes, many folks use hammocks for different purposes and to each his own. It greatly enhances my enjoyment of the outdoors and i believe that's why we want to share the experience with others.
Always enjoy the mandojams!
I sure do enjoy mine. Whoooooo Buddy)))))
You are my very favourite hammock RUclipsr! Heck, maybe even one of my very favourite RUclipsrs! Love you Shug!!! You make me giggle all the time!
Just the best energy on the interwebs.
You never disappoint. Always helpful... your kindness and generosity are transformative.
I have learned so much from you! Thank you for puttin’ yer light it out there to light the way.
Thanks for the loverly comment.
I enjoy listening to the mandolin being played, you Sir, are fantastic!
I as well, sir. It's magical.
I am bowing and I thank you.
I thankee.
Isn’t it time for the Maple King again?
Won't be long......
korling99 yes!!
The Maple King will be making a fall appearance?
I drove past Linville Gorge today on my way home to Maryland and had to roll down the window and yell "I love you Maple King!!!" I hope he heard me 🤔😂
Great video Shug. I appreciated the sit and chat style. You’re a wealth of information, and a good teacher. You can break down this complex hobby into bit-size chunks that we can understand.
Your mandolin skills are enviable (I know you earned them) and I enjoy listening to your music. You are NOT destined to become the Lord of Rap however! :D
Keep up the great work, and enjoy the upcoming season of sleeping 10-12 hours in the woods.
Whooooo Buddy)))))

Awesome video man. Looking forward to more hammock camping. Have an amazing weekend, Andreas from Off Grid Sweden 🇸🇪
Whoooooo Buddy))))) Appreciate it.
I’ve been hammocking off and on for about 28 years. Started out with a small net hammock my wife bought and sent to me while I was in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. Didn’t have any trees so I tied it underneath my trailer or between two trucks in the motor pool (I was a truck driver in the Army). My first cloth hammock was a Grandtrunk which I loved and still have. Recently, mostly because of you (and bless you for it btw), I purchased a Warbonnet BBxlc with matching Wooki. Couldn’t be happier as when I’m in my hammock. Thank you for all you do.
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Just got back had me the best time , my only problem wanted to sleep for days in my hammock definitely kept warm in my XL BackBird Warbonnet watching your videos has taught me I need to get out and enjoy the moment I’m in and pass down the joy of just being out in the great outdoors. Keep up the great inspiration.
I can't wait to get in and never want to get out.
Good to see you Shug!!! Brought a buddy on his first canoe trip and hammock camp in the Boundary Waters last week, 60 mile loop. Set up and tore down everyday. He got a lot of practice! Let’s just say he’s a little obsessed now, uhm, I mean passionate! Whoo buddy!!! He was watching your videos before the trip so that was cool to have some Shug talk! Lots of whoo budddies fighting big waves!
Musta been a fine time to be up there! Whoooooo Buddy)))))
I love how cooky youre not afraid to be and the range of actual content and passion that you put in your videos, i would absoluetly love to go hammock camping with you. Also nice solo at the end 😁
I am just being what I am. Thankee.
Great video Shug. I had never heard of "mocking." I like how you offer insight without trying to sell us something. You always make it entertaining and fun.
Thanks for the good words.
Shug, after all these years you are still the MAN! Thank you for the videos and for all these years of lollygagging and keeping it secure in this wonderful place called sector 7. Shug Army✊ Whoobuddyeverybody! 🙌
I really can't believe I am still at it. Maybe time to retire! Thankee.
Good seein' ya back with video again. Just got back into town this afternoon, spent the weekend camping in the woods. Trying to give equal time to my cot/tent to be certain which I prefer... I definitely sleep "more gooder" in the hammock.
It was WET!!! Poured all weekend long, but, my Aqua Quest Safari 13'x20' tarp excelled in it's job. Had a dry spot to sleep, sit/read, tend the fire in my Firebox Stove all weekend long. I do NOT miss the cot/tent when snoozing in the hammock, but I do miss the hammock when in the cot/tent. No pressure on the hip at night, rarely have to get up in the middle of the night. In the cot, up at least once a night.
Nice report feller. Sounds like a good time being dry and high.
Good chat Shug. Helps sort things out. I always struggle between the balance of lightweight backpacking and hammock comfort. Always enjoy the mandolin playing though. Thanks for the video and sharing your perspective.
I think we all deal with that a bit. Light Comfort is nice.
A new Shug video comes in while I’m at work, a treat to come home to.
Thanks for laughs, much love to you and yours Shug 👍
Mucho appreciato~~~~
Nice talk Shug, well said. Love the ending - Surrounded by down and mandolin notes Shug adds some good vibes to our day. Thank you ✌🏼
The down muffles the high end.
I started with Walmart, then skeeter beater , then Clark TX 270. Ground hard and cold. For you to appreciate hammock camping you have to experience it. I'm 58 love the outdoors, but hammocks work for me, I like to be comfortable. I love shrugs videos, but you have to do it. It's freaking great, nothing like getting right with mother nature. It's almost a spiritual thing to me to get in the woods and reflect. Happy hanging and thank you Shug.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Thanks for the insight on hammock camping, it's food for thought. Great pickin' at the end, and that's a cool hat too!
Thanks for all that.
"Obsession!? makes people cry...Passion!? Makes people envious of ya." I laughed out loud at that. Fantastic stuff Shug. Good to see ya back. Cheers!
I truly believe that. Glad you got a guffaw.
Big fan of these real talk with Shug videos!

Great video, and love the mandolin finale! (Started learning last month myself after seeing you play in so many of your videos) thanks for the motivation!

Righto!!
Hammock newb here. I'm watching this video right now, in my backyard, cocooned in my $24 hammock I'd recently got off Amazon. It's about 45 degrees and I'm snug as a bug, in a rug, with my also recently purchased, 40 degree underquilt and my kids old Curious George fleece blanket.
Been lying here for over a couple of hours now just watching YT and listening to the frogs; practicing social distancing.
I'm enjoying your videos, and I especially like how you "roll"! Thanks for making these videos!
Good on ye' for getting some good solo hang time. Whooooo Buddy))))
Love your playing on the mandolin Shug! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Shug - love your videos. It’s always a good day when you post a new one.
Whoooooo Buddy))))) Thanks.
Your song was ‘King of the Fairies’. When are you going to compose ‘Lord of Lolligag’?
We’d all love to hear it!!!
To busy lollygaging to compose it ...so far.
shugemery: lol.... and I actually think ‘lol’ is short for lollygag!!
A new musical video from you is a real morning treat.
I just received my new ultralight Hammock from Dream Hammock which I will be testing out in my backyard on a nice cold Montana night. I’m new to Hammocking and will be using Whoopie slings and toggles for the first time after learning about them from your videos. Thanks for sharing the passion. I’m older now and really appreciate the comfy sleep I get in in a hammock.
You have fun doing that...Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Great chat! Different strokes for different folks. 10-12 hours of sleep is a passion that I'm envious of. All secure in sector 7!!
Only in the woods when my mind is unfettered.
Hey Shug, you got me off the ground! I used to like tents, now I feel trapped when in them. I'm a lounger and a sleeper, never without a hammock.
Whoooo Buddy))))
Nice to hear from you Shug, as always great advice, I started with an Eno doublenest after sleeping out in the backyard a few times I was hooked, evolved to a dutchware chameleon and haven’t looked back. But still use the Eno for day hikes as a place to take a nap in the afternoon.
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Been a hanger for many many years thanks to you. "Ground dweller syndrome" was a reality during our primitive family camping trips. I was always separated , with wife and the boys in a tent and me hanging somewhere. Last year, my 13 yr old began watching your vids with me and he became a hanger. As of a trip in Sept and getting back from another yesterday, I finally convinced and converted my wife into a hanger too. With a Chameleon double Dutch set up, wife and 9 year old are in a set of trees with my 14 yr old and I close by. Wife is finally getting good sleep during our trips. The family that hangs together stays together. A big family... Whoooo Buddy to you. Keep doing what you do. We love all of your videos and the boys can't wait to see your Halloween one.
I'll be out backpacking over Halloween so my house will get a good egging!
Nothing like Sunday morning and a little chat with Shug. I am admittedly a hammock convert due to this channel! Being the DIY kind of guy I had to make my own. now shuge needs to just do an instructional video on getting that 10 hours of sleep 😆.
All my trip videos are instructionals for getting 10 hours sleep. Walk a lot, eat well, be warm. Slumber deeply.
Always great to see a Shug video in the inbox. Happy trails, brother.
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
A few years ago I got influenced by you and Sintax77. Got me a Hennessy classic that was on sale to see if I liked it. If I did I would upgrade or go back to tents. I’m still using the same hammock. I tent sometimes but I sure sleep better in the hammock. I use the tent to spread out. Thankful for your videos and humor.
The best of both camping worlds!
The blinking of the fairy lights was very hypnotic.. Sudden urge to buy all Shug Merchandise.. Nice video
My evil plan is in action I daresay.....
Hello shug, yes I like it when you balance your camerastick that way.
I like all the stuff you dooooo budey.

As much as I enjoy hanging in my hammocks, I just can't sleep in one. I have always enjoyed your videos and still do.
I know not all take to them. Thanks for still watching the vids all the same.
Hey shug! I actually wanted to thank you for my dutchwear chameleon. I bought it on your recommendation and my camping sleep has improved dramatically! So thanks
Glad your enjoying your hammock.
Watched one video and subscribed. Super informative and entertaining!
I do so thankee.
Great vid.... and thanks for the music. I always enjoy your picking.
Thanks Dan.
Insightfulness is always
I think with my hanac I am a overnight sleeper and lounger
And I still have my hammock from text sports which my grandfather bought me when I was 9 fishing with him. Sometimes when I was younger I would get sleepy fishing with my grandfather very early in the morning so I could fall asleep and get some rest and she'll finish the day fishing awesome times with my grandfather
Believe it or not that hammock ripstop nylon from 1974
Classic hammock!
Shug Bud-great vidio. I like the hammock for cliffs, high in trees, under bridges and find myself hunting for trees or to fit in kayak. I also play the mandolin and fiddle. You rip that mandolin pretty good. You know? You could be a good actor- you are a natural at it!!! Thanks for info. Im practicing that song now.
Done a bit of acting. I like it but it is hit or miss. Whooooo Buddy)))))
No Karl? You have helped me so much with dialing in my hammock setup. Thanks Shug.
Sometimes he is in me.Sometimes he ain't I reckon.
Shug, I always love your videos, you’re just a down to earth person, awesome !! I find that I don’t camp much in the summer months even though there are hundreds of acres of land behind my house, I just hate red bugs, but they love me ! Your video inspired me with the change of the season and get out and hammock for a night to two. Just 2 nights ago I spent a few hours with friends in the woods with a nice fire, cooking some burgers, heard a noise, I knew it was a deer, shined the light about 75 feet through the woods 4 bigs eyes looking at us. Now if the 4 eyes were on the same animal, I’m sure we would have been running ! It just nice being out there, you know what I mean,
Glad you and your friends got out.
Always great to listen to ye Shug. Just spent a couple hours reviewing past vids (including your -40 night and the escapades with over pumpin' yer MSR pump lol) and the series on suspension systems. Am experiencing some calf ridge and wake up with sore knee so will try a few tips you gave on the subject with my double layer 10' Warbonnet Blackbird (if nothing else add an ground mat). Have helped it a bit with elevated the foot end. Was thinking of going to the XLC but will give your trips a go and see if I can eliminate it at 6'1" tall. Always appreciate your input and entertainment, a many, many talented man indeed!
Always glad and happy to hear that. Whooooo Buddy))))
Love your videos! Thanks for all the great info. I'm trying to make the switch from tenting for my upcoming AT thru-hike. I'll need all the help I can get 😂 ✌️🦉🐈

Shug, four things. First, I started sleeping in hammocks rather than tent camping about 8 years ago for my annual BWCA trips. Second, I'm pretty sure I'll never go back to tent camping, finding hammock sleeping sooooo comfortable and peaceful by comparison (though I spent a few nights in a tent this summer of necessity on a trip that lacked decent places to hang a hammock). Third, I always find your videos entertaining and informative. And fourth, although I have NO need of any more T-Shirts whatsoever, to offer a tiny bit of support to you, I just ordered a SHUG shirt and I'll gladly and proudly wear it from time to time. Thanks for all you do. Woooooo buddy.
Whooooo Buddy)))))...thank you so much for the support.

I looked everywhere for one with the artificial fireflys. I tried a bunch of hammocks. like Goldilox looking for the one that is just right. Maybe I will brake into someone's place tonight and see if they have one that fits. I always get a bit happy when I see you have a new video, (not that your older ones make me sad). Maybe my solution is to put 4wd on my recliner, as I can fall asleep real quick in it. Thanks again for another honest video. So many others want to sell you on a product or idea. Your M.O is to try to help others figure it out.
Thanks for all that. Whooooo Buddy)))))

Nice chatting with you... or from you. Love your channel, ground dweller here. I do take a cheap hammock with when car camping. My 4 year old daughter walked up to see what I was watching when you were playing the fairy song... she said he's pretty good, right.
Tell her thanks for me.
I do both, hammock and tent camping. Depends on how many people and time of year. Great chat time.
Good way to roll.
I car camp. I love my eno hammock. I have a tent but I sleep much better in the hammock. I made a Costco underquilt for it. I purchased the Eno gug net and rain fly. I sleep warm, dry, and snug as a bug in a hammock. I learned a few tricks from you on sleeping crosswise in the hammock and using a ridged line. I can't hike or backpack any more but I still need time in the back country to get a reset on life.
