Thanks Shug. The introduction of the Ridge Line to a Hammock makes the largest difference in comfort and set-up time. My Ridge Line addition was the greatest thing I ever did and sharing that knowledge converted more tent campers than anything else.

My first and only hammock is a Dream Hammock Darien. It's fantastic. You can't really do any hammock camping unless you have the skills to throw up a tarp. So that's what I like best about all this. It's a challenge to learn the skills of knot tying and tarp pitching. A good hammock and tarp set up is really a mini engineering feat

It started as an experiment in prep for motorcycle camping, but my back felt so good that I moved it indoors. Thanks for all the balanced info you share on here! And for the fun! Great tips and talk Shug. I have a friend I was camping with about 4 or 5 years ago. He was in a hammock. I thought that was so cool. I kept asking him questions and he said watch Shug on RUclips. I said what’s RUclips. 😂🤣😂. So I got RUclips and started watching your videos. I still will do some tent backpacking but if I’m ever with a group of people I always bring my hammock. I’ve backpacked thousands of miles now with a hammock and I absolutely love it!!! And when someone new is asking me a lot of questions about hammock camping I tell them to go watch Shug on RUclips and it will help you out a lot. Thank you so much for the help you gave me about hammock camping and the help you give to the backpacking community. Your the man!!

shug, when i knew i needed to buy a hammock (ground related pain) i knew i was going to need something high end right outta the gate so i watched every video i could find and read all the articles and lurked forcefully on the forum.
your videos were the most helpful to me in terms of figuring out what i would need so i only had to cry once. my starter hammock is the hammock i am still in: a blackbird XLC because of COURSE i needed a winter cover!!
after some months camping in it, i realized that the pain abatement i got camping was significantly better than sleeping in a bed. so now it's my every night bed, indoors and out.

I purchased my first hammock back in 2005 while overseas in the sandbox. I was doing convoy missions for Uncle Sam and there were a few times the transient "housing" was full at some of the bases we stopped at. I wasn't comfortable sleeping in the cab of the truck so I purchased a mini survival hammock at a PX after a few days of sleeping in the truck. Spent many nights hanging from the trailer when transient housing wasn't available, either full or just didn't exist where we were at. Fast forward to a couple years ago I pulled it out of storage for use at the paintball field I work at when after hours parties would run late into the summer evening. It might have shrank in storage as it wound up being tighter than I remembered and the net design of the survival hammock left its imprint on my face. This year I decided to upgrade to an ENO hammock set up after watching some of your videos and other channels about hammock camping. I am glad I did as I was able to get some over night treks in this summer and I used my ENO set up for those over night trips. I am looking forward to more backpacking trips with the hammock and hoping to get in some that are at least two nights.

Always glad to see a new Shug video in my feed. Sitting here having my morning coffee -- not Medaglia d'Oro, but made with my Aeropress -- and listening to Hammock Talk with Shug! . It has been about six weeks since my last night in a hammock - on a Scout campout. The reservation we were on does not permit hammocks hung from trees, so I took my ENO Nomad stand and used that. It was my first night using the Nomad, and I was pleased with how well it worked. We had a serious storm that night and it didn't budge at all. I had taken the wrong tarp -- 9 footer instead of my 12' -- and got a tiny bit of spray under the ends, but not bad at all considering how hard it was blowing. All secure in the OP!

I am a van hammocker. I also for many years only used a hammock at home strung up in the bedroom. It was a game changer after I broke my back. 9 year later and 50 lbs lighter I can now sleep in a bed again. The hammock is still the best. I sleep in my van hammock at home for camping and while traveling for work or otherwise.

As a hammock enthusiast I often think about such things and it only seems natural to try to share the joys of increased comfort the hammock provides with others. After decades of tenting on rock and root, the hammock was the answer for my aged body. Yes, many folks use hammocks for different purposes and to each his own. It greatly enhances my enjoyment of the outdoors and i believe that's why we want to share the experience with others.

I’ve been hammocking off and on for about 28 years. Started out with a small net hammock my wife bought and sent to me while I was in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. Didn’t have any trees so I tied it underneath my trailer or between two trucks in the motor pool (I was a truck driver in the Army). My first cloth hammock was a Grandtrunk which I loved and still have. Recently, mostly because of you (and bless you for it btw), I purchased a Warbonnet BBxlc with matching Wooki. Couldn’t be happier as when I’m in my hammock. Thank you for all you do.

Good seein' ya back with video again. Just got back into town this afternoon, spent the weekend camping in the woods. Trying to give equal time to my cot/tent to be certain which I prefer... I definitely sleep "more gooder" in the hammock.
It was WET!!! Poured all weekend long, but, my Aqua Quest Safari 13'x20' tarp excelled in it's job. Had a dry spot to sleep, sit/read, tend the fire in my Firebox Stove all weekend long. I do NOT miss the cot/tent when snoozing in the hammock, but I do miss the hammock when in the cot/tent. No pressure on the hip at night, rarely have to get up in the middle of the night. In the cot, up at least once a night.

Hey Shug, you got me off the ground! I used to like tents, now I feel trapped when in them. I'm a lounger and a sleeper, never without a hammock.

Nice to hear from you Shug, as always great advice, I started with an Eno doublenest after sleeping out in the backyard a few times I was hooked, evolved to a dutchware chameleon and haven’t looked back. But still use the Eno for day hikes as a place to take a nap in the afternoon.

Been a hanger for many many years thanks to you. "Ground dweller syndrome" was a reality during our primitive family camping trips. I was always separated , with wife and the boys in a tent and me hanging somewhere. Last year, my 13 yr old began watching your vids with me and he became a hanger. As of a trip in Sept and getting back from another yesterday, I finally convinced and converted my wife into a hanger too. With a Chameleon double Dutch set up, wife and 9 year old are in a set of trees with my 14 yr old and I close by. Wife is finally getting good sleep during our trips. The family that hangs together stays together. A big family... Whoooo Buddy to you. Keep doing what you do. We love all of your videos and the boys can't wait to see your Halloween one.

Nothing like Sunday morning and a little chat with Shug. I am admittedly a hammock convert due to this channel! Being the DIY kind of guy I had to make my own. now shuge needs to just do an instructional video on getting that 10 hours of sleep 😆.

A few years ago I got influenced by you and Sintax77. Got me a Hennessy classic that was on sale to see if I liked it. If I did I would upgrade or go back to tents. I’m still using the same hammock. I tent sometimes but I sure sleep better in the hammock. I use the tent to spread out. Thankful for your videos and humor.

And I still have my hammock from text sports which my grandfather bought me when I was 9 fishing with him. Sometimes when I was younger I would get sleepy fishing with my grandfather very early in the morning so I could fall asleep and get some rest and she'll finish the day fishing awesome times with my grandfather

Shug Bud-great vidio. I like the hammock for cliffs, high in trees, under bridges and find myself hunting for trees or to fit in kayak. I also play the mandolin and fiddle. You rip that mandolin pretty good. You know? You could be a good actor- you are a natural at it!!! Thanks for info. Im practicing that song now.

Shug, I always love your videos, you’re just a down to earth person, awesome !! I find that I don’t camp much in the summer months even though there are hundreds of acres of land behind my house, I just hate red bugs, but they love me ! Your video inspired me with the change of the season and get out and hammock for a night to two. Just 2 nights ago I spent a few hours with friends in the woods with a nice fire, cooking some burgers, heard a noise, I knew it was a deer, shined the light about 75 feet through the woods 4 bigs eyes looking at us. Now if the 4 eyes were on the same animal, I’m sure we would have been running ! It just nice being out there, you know what I mean,

Always great to listen to ye Shug. Just spent a couple hours reviewing past vids (including your -40 night and the escapades with over pumpin' yer MSR pump lol) and the series on suspension systems. Am experiencing some calf ridge and wake up with sore knee so will try a few tips you gave on the subject with my double layer 10' Warbonnet Blackbird (if nothing else add an ground mat). Have helped it a bit with elevated the foot end. Was thinking of going to the XLC but will give your trips a go and see if I can eliminate it at 6'1" tall. Always appreciate your input and entertainment, a many, many talented man indeed!

00:39..... Well being from South Africa now living in the UK, I kinda lost my passion for camping, Wild camping and those gorgeous solo camps....Started watching you and really quickly got hooked on hammocks..... Now I finally got my 1st solo camp in with a Hammock.... My wife also after watching you and seeing the results of the after camp on my face wants to join in! You have a great Passion that is intoxicating and infectious. Love how you describe, teach and share with us your passion. Keep it up, and for what ever reason you come to the UK, please let us know, I am sure that I am not the only one whom would like a camp in your presence....

Shug, four things. First, I started sleeping in hammocks rather than tent camping about 8 years ago for my annual BWCA trips. Second, I'm pretty sure I'll never go back to tent camping, finding hammock sleeping sooooo comfortable and peaceful by comparison (though I spent a few nights in a tent this summer of necessity on a trip that lacked decent places to hang a hammock). Third, I always find your videos entertaining and informative. And fourth, although I have NO need of any more T-Shirts whatsoever, to offer a tiny bit of support to you, I just ordered a SHUG shirt and I'll gladly and proudly wear it from time to time. Thanks for all you do. Woooooo buddy.

I looked everywhere for one with the artificial fireflys. I tried a bunch of hammocks. like Goldilox looking for the one that is just right. Maybe I will brake into someone's place tonight and see if they have one that fits. I always get a bit happy when I see you have a new video, (not that your older ones make me sad). Maybe my solution is to put 4wd on my recliner, as I can fall asleep real quick in it. Thanks again for another honest video. So many others want to sell you on a product or idea. I car camp. I love my eno hammock. I have a tent but I sleep much better in the hammock. I made a Costco underquilt for it. I purchased the Eno gug net and rain fly. I sleep warm, dry, and snug as a bug in a hammock. I learned a few tricks from you on sleeping crosswise in the hammock and using a ridged line. I can't hike or backpack any more but I still need time in the back country to get a reset on life.
