There are a ton of stories out there, a lot of them come from a friend of a friend, but others are mores trustworthy. My favorite story, that is one I think might have happened, but not going to say I outright believe in (kind of like Big Foot) is one of St. Joseph selling a landfill. Someone buried a statue of St. Joseph, and for months, his house didn't sell. Eventually, he dug up the statue in frustration and threw it in the garbage. Anthony Churko the points they mentioned in the video. being non-native user of english, to me they sound like one geek trying to out geek another. (i roughly get half of the Saint Joseph statue buried upside down part. but why?) cheers..
Oh. They're quizzing each other on Catholic beliefs. For example, Catholics believe that Mary (the mother of Jesus) has appeared in visions to groups of people several times throughout history - most famously at Mount Carmel, Israel in the 13th century; Guadalupe, Mexico in 1531; Lourdes, France in 1858; Fatima, Portugal in 1917; and Medjugroje, Bosnia in 1981. St. Joseph (the father of Jesus) is the patron saint of family homes (since he provided Jesus' childhood home), and in the US it's a tradition for Catholics to bury a statue of St. Joseph in your yard in order to sell your home. That's not an official Catholic belief, and I don't know why it must be upside down. A monstrance is a vessel used to carry the bread which is believed to be the body of Jesus (since in the Gospel of John, Jesus said "This is My Body.") And a scapular (which means "shoulders") is a garment that Catholics wear from their shoulders as a devotion to Jesus - the belief is that Mary introduced it at Mount Carmel, saying "whosoever wears this scapular shall never endure the fires of Hell." Does that answer your question?
How is this different from those Tolkien quizzes that Stephen likes to do? I see what attracts him to religion now, all those characters, stories and quotes.
+NezihBouali yep, catholicism is exactly like this, filled with crazy entertaining stories, but we usually only hear about the rapist teachers of them so...

@@nsphilip I support rooting them out 100%. Same with leaders in any institution I am a part of. If my government officials are accused of rape I think they should be rooted out and tried as well. For whatever reason the band mainly only plays stuff from the public domain. Quincy Jones was one of the guest and I guess they got permission from him to use the song, because they played it for him too. I don't know if it's a funding thing or what, because Paul Schaeffer and his band played all sorts of popular and contemporary material.
We had a problem selling our house so we did whole burying Joseph in the ground stuff. But we were told that it was the holy mother Mary. Either way, it worked!
+mtregi You make a good point, but just because it's not officially accepted by the Church yet doesn't necessarily mean that Mary couldn't have appeared there :)
Urban II I don't have a strong personal opinion either way, but I dont think it has been condemned. It is still officially under investigation, isn't it?

Stephen & Patricia Heaton Have A Catholic Throwdown feat. the most catholic nerd high-fives ever... I like this... even though they were having a discussion about their religion it wasn't obnoxious in any way...
+Sheep King They did great! - I've seen Stephen do this sort of thing with others, like Jack White of the White Stripes. They both were right (& wrong) about Mary's bodily Assumption - the Church has not ruled on if Mary died or was taken up by her Son still alive. I believe the dogmatic proclamation was worded "...at the end of her natural life..." They got the major Marian apparitions correct but did you know one occurred in Champion, WI? Međugorje is not yet approved, either, so that shouldn't yet be on the list (or at least not on my list). Also, the St. Joseph statue as real estate agent is a funny story but I do cringe when people believe the burying upside down business - there's a real danger of it going from pious prayers for intercession of the Lord's earthly father to becoming a dangerous faith in a good luck charm.All-in-all great fun and it is nice to see Catholic-on-purpose-and-joyfully-so people in entertainment sharing their common faith.
We see throughout the course of history what is of GOD (ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH) versus what is of "man" or NOT OF GOD (35,000 and growing Protestant divisions all stemming from a 1500's "man" Martin Luther). Who absolutely loves division??? Satan just laughs and laughs as Protestants continue to divide over the self contradictory false teaching "Bible Alone" found absolutely no where in the Bible. Satan becomes gleeful when a self righteous Protestant either ignorantly or purposely attacks the ONE and ONLY established Church of Jesus Christ being the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH. Who absolutely loves unity and died for it??? John 17:21-23. Jesus Christ established ONE CHURCH, prayed and died for what??? Which ONE CHURCH that can "prove it" historically and Biblically???
Oh how I enjoyed this video with two people whom I really enjoy watching. It was almost like a Catholic game show. I found myself yelling out the answers; especially Knock, when Stephen was struggling to name the places where the Blessed Virgin had appeared. Thank you for this. I had to save it to my playlist.
Somehow liberal Colbert runs counter to what I consider Catholic values. I love how some Catholics pay no mind that the liberal social issues they grant a pass to. You cant have it both ways. Tolerance and no discrimination is an absolute must but liberal progressive beliefs and agenda is very counter to Catholic doctrine. Colbert with his own intolerance, cursing, and guests in support of topics such as abortion doesnt make sense, liberal hypocrisy.
Wait, how can she be Catholic and not know there is a St. Patricia? She must be the first Catholic I've heard of who hasn't googled her name to see if there is a Saint sharing the same name.
What happened to Stephen? He should avoid his occasion for temptation...anything Trump. Even hatred of what one considers evil can occupy too much of ones heart. Stephen, cleanse your heart and show us the great joy and wonderful comedy in your soul again! You are that gift to us.
The church traditionally teaches that Mary did die, and the tradition says that the Apostle Thomas missed the funeral, arriving 4-days late. Upon arriving, he insisted on opening her tomb, declaring that he wanted “to see the body of the Mother of our Lord one last time”, whence they discovered that her tomb was empty.
nope......Mary went into a state of dormition, and was assumed into heaven. If you don't agree, lets agree to not agree. Both of us, I'm sure need to learn more about our faith, the one we profess.
@@theresahenderson2424 the word “Dormition” means “falling asleep”, and is what the church traditionally called death for those in the faith. I’m a Byzantine Catholic, and we specifically celebrate Mary’s Dormition, and I assure you that we agree on this point far mode than you’re letting on.
Catholic fact checking. Ummm... This is kind of embarrassing for the two of them. First of all there was a St. Patricia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patricia_of_Naples Second of all the church never recognized Medjugorje as a legitimate supernatural appearance of Mary. Last, the question about Marian Appearances is silly as those are all private revelations and the church attests you don't need to believe in them to be Catholic. So Colbert could have answered 0 and still technically have been correct. I don't think these two are as "Catholic" as they think they are.

I see the video as being posted on 19 January. This could be an interesting reflection of how television viewers and cable cutters respond to divisive statements about Christianity. What is the original air date of this portion of the show, do you know?
I didn't realize there were any Catholics in Hollywood! I'm impressed. Maybe there are a few more!!!
Jimmy Kimmel, Mark Wahlberg, Leonardo deCaprio, Selena Gomez, George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Steve Carell, Tom Brady, Pierce Brosnan

Amazing!! GO CATHOLICS!! 🙏🏽
Yes!!! Go and root out the rapist priests and have them prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. No? Oh...you don't mind priests raping children?
FAX
@@nsphilip I support rooting them out 100%. Same with leaders in any institution I am a part of. If my government officials are accused of rape I think they should be rooted out and tried as well. Doesn’t make me want to stop being an American. Just sad that members of a group I’m in did horrible things.
THE JANITOR IS BETTER. he will always be the janitor to me. dont give a fuck what is real name is
ROFL
Jan Itor Ahaaa the Jan Itor is here :D I haven't seen The Middle but I'll give it a try
+michael hartman it feels so weird to hear him talk so much at once when he was mostly angry and silent as the Janitor.
yeah but he was quick and witty
Wow. I'm a cradle Catholic and I did not know the last two questions.
Did anyone else notice they played "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" when she entered the room?
I think it's in keeping with the MLK Day celebration!
Sergio Campos scrolling through just to see if anyone noticed and commented
This makes me feel better about being Catholic.

catholic people are not christians.
Gold Onyx, yes we are. “Catholics not being Christians” is a misconception, along with the “fact” that we practice idolatry.
@@jesusdiazzz6369 literally the catholic church was the first christian church to exist left by christ himself for us
@@stephenking5852 No its not and you guys do practice idolatry.
God bless them both. I'm in Catholic tears watching this.
We had a problem selling our house so we did whole burying Joseph in the ground stuff. But we were told that it was the holy mother Mary. Either way, it worked!
Why are you on Earth??
great chemistry
WONDERFUL - and what's even MORE amazing is all those who HATE ROMAN CATHOLICS and just TROLL FB. Sad = we will pray for you!
Sorry, Medjugorje is not officially recognized by the Catholic Church as an authentic apparition.
+mtregi You make a good point, but just because it's not officially accepted by the Church yet doesn't necessarily mean that Mary couldn't have appeared there :)
It’s been condemned by the Church though, not just unrecognised.
Urban II I don't have a strong personal opinion either way, but I dont think it has been condemned. It is still officially under investigation, isn't it?
@@aimformyheadplease wow!
The only person I know who is deeply into Medjugori has a frightening quality, intensity and problematic focus in their religious life that is definitely related to having developed paranoid schizophrenia. I don't know if I'm relieved or distressed to find that it really is as off putting as it seemed when Ive heard about it from that source. It seemed like the whole tone was markedly different from La Salette, Lourdes, Fatima, etc
@@aimformyheadplease thanks so much for the information, I am very definitely interested!
Is your Mom still with us, and did she eventually change her mind on it?
I love this so much! The alter girl in me is so psyched 😩💃💪
catholic people are not Christians.
Yesss, I knoww 🥳
Stephen & Patricia Heaton Have A Catholic Throwdown feat. the most catholic nerd high-fives ever... I like this... even though they were having a discussion about their religion it wasn't obnoxious in any way...
Colbert has got to be the greatest Catholic American ever, right up there with Charles Carroll and JFK.
DizzyFromShirbert lol
@DizzyFromShirbert Really JFK and Stephen Colbert? LMFAO That's what the "greatest" the American Catholic Church has produced? GTFO
@@tipofmytongue1024 we also have Galileo, leonardo da Vinci, isaac newton, etc.
I refer you to Conan, Bill Murray, John Mulaney, RFK, Fr. James Martin, SJ
Bishop Fulton Sheen?
This made my Catholic heart SO full! Thank you Stephen
Who else knew every answer?
Unfortunately I did not. I need to read up on this stuff lol
+Sheep King I knew every answer! I was so proud of myself, too. :)
Me!
Born and raised Catholic, and I didn't even know most of this stuff lol.
Stephen never misses an opportunity to remind us that he's Catholic.
What a shame he's not.
Catholic and a liberal....please....
That was fun! I love how she kept high fiving him!
That list of names was quicker than I thought anyone could talk.
right I've gone and listened to it several times in total awe
Oh how I enjoyed this video with two people whom I really enjoy watching. It was almost like a Catholic game show. I found myself yelling out the answers; especially Knock, when Stephen was struggling to name the places where the Blessed Virgin had appeared. Thank you for this. I had to save it to my playlist.
5:15 - that's a myth and a sacrilege. Only superstitious Catholics bury a statue of St. Joseph.
My mum was from Mayo and would have loved hearing Knock mentioned. Go Patricia!
endless "knock, knock jokes
I know nothing about catholicism, but this was so enjoyable.
When she said "after her death" , i immediately yelled "SHE DIDN'T DIE!!!!" 😂😂😂
Somehow liberal Colbert runs counter to what I consider Catholic values. I love how some Catholics pay no mind that the liberal social issues they grant a pass to. You cant have it both ways. Tolerance and no discrimination is an absolute must but liberal progressive beliefs and agenda is very counter to Catholic doctrine. Colbert with his own intolerance, cursing, and guests in support of topics such as abortion doesnt make sense, liberal hypocrisy.
She'll always be Debra
Stephen, do a round two of Catholic Throwdown with Jack White!
and Jewish throw down with Jack Black
I think the Apparition of the Miraculous Medal and Our Lady of Guadalupe are my favorites.

Too bad when politics overshadow ones faith
Wait, how can she be Catholic and not know there is a St. Patricia? She must be the first Catholic I've heard of who hasn't googled her name to see if there is a Saint sharing the same name.
This is why I love Colbert!
God Bless You two Catholics !!! Be Proud about of your loving Faith !!!
As a Catholic, I loved this! So true & so many great examples!
Yes!!! Some good Catholic recognition displayed for the world!!! 👊🏼🙏🏼💕⛪️
Love how he says he’s Catholic but supports abortion
Have to say didn’t like him ( Colbert) before, now that I know he’s Catholic, he’s great! I’ll watch more of him.
Me too, but he should act more like a Catholic. His shows are non Catholic.
I’m so happy to see a comment section filled with so many Catholics!
Our Blessed Mother, the immaculate conception.
catholic people are not christians , she is not God or the mother of God.
We have not said JACK about your tv show! Please don't! I'm learning here!
i loved every minute of this, Stephen at his best tbh
What happened to Stephen? He should avoid his occasion for temptation...anything Trump. Even hatred of what one considers evil can occupy too much of ones heart. Stephen, cleanse your heart and show us the great joy and wonderful comedy in your soul again! You are that gift to us.
This is hilarious if you are a catholic! OMG! How funny! Wow, they are good!
LOVE THE MIDDLE!!!! Doesn't matter that they didn't talk about it in this clip. I always love it when Stephen does the Catholic Throwdown.
I love how from a distance, Colbert's Christianity is indistinguishable from Tolkein fandom.
Imagine claiming to be Catholic and rejecting church teaching on moral issues
Well, I believe...that this is the most entertaining interview I've ever seen Colbert do. He and she have such great chemistry!
Hello traveler! I wouldn't go down there, the butthurt levels are too high for mere mortals! Continue, only if you dare...
I'm so satisfied I knew the Monstrance and Scapular!
What an awesome fun clip?! Watching two people have a sincere intimate conversation is so much better than watching Fallon smash eggs in his head.
I'm grew up in a strict Mexican catholic family and I had 2 brothers and 4 sisters and my moth was one of ten! So this was enjoyable to watch😂
HAHA I'm from a catholic fam of 2 boys and 4 girls and my Dad is one of 10 kids in his fam loolllll
Mary also appeared also in my country, India😃❤.
She was appeared in Vailankini, South India.
Where she's given the title, "Our Lady of Vailankini"🥰🥰
Patricia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patricia_of_Naples
Second of all the church never recognized Medjugorje as a legitimate supernatural appearance of Mary.
Last, the question about Marian Appearances is silly as those are all private revelations and the church attests you don't need to believe in them to be Catholic. So Colbert could have answered 0 and still technically have been correct.
I don't think these two are as "Catholic" as they think they are.
"He got rid of the snake."
So he could no longer attend the seminary? He trans-substantiated? He had a shamcock?
This was a lot of fun. I'm Jewish but grew up in a Catholic neighborhood. Almost adopted as a Catholic.
Oh my gosh, love this. Impressed as heck. And I met Patricia Heaton checking her and her husband into Bellagio years ago and she was as sweet as pie, so was her husband!
As a catholic, I never heard a story that in order to sell your house fast, you have to bury the statue of Saint Joseph upside down.....
Hey Stephen & Patricia: What about Saint Patricia of Naples? Left her family to devote her life to God. Feast day is Aug. 25th.
