I run 3.07 so I can cruise in overdrive and tow in direct.

Years ago on the forums I read where someone built a Ram Charger with I the 5.9 cummins and I assume 47rh..I believe he said it had the 3.07 gears ..I thought it be a nice ride to pull a boat or whatever with . That was a long time ago

Well I glad you brought this up. This was a learning experience. When I went to a manual transmission a g56 I was not aware there was two over drive ratios . I run 3.55 gears and when I got the transmission in I found out mine was .79 . So I found a formula to figure the rpms and decided that a set of 285/75 /17 helped gain back a lot of the lost . To be honest I like to tow at around 65 . I drove my truck empty and tow and check fuel economy to see how it does .. I was not aware of the zf6 transmission being able to be used in a Dodge 4x4 till a while back with the .72 overdrive ratio . I set down the a calculator and used the .79 and .74 of the g56 and the .72 of the zf6 and lastly the .69 automatic. It became obvious to me why the 4.1 and the automatic work OK with the 35 . I used the 33.9 on my tires . I saw a formula on road kill video is what I used to figure out the rpms . I think lol that towing at 65 ish at around 1800 ish might work OK. I found that with the smaller hp my truck makes and my gearing and 6 speeds and the .79 overdrive tows OK. When I not towing a trailer the .74 might really shine . I just not sure if it would net a significant difference in fuel consumption. Driving at from 65 to 70 unloaded I can get 20 to 21 so I not sure if there is more to be had ..Thanks for the video . I think wind resistance is a huge factor for fuel efficiency

I'm glad you put that out there Rob. Using a truck for what's meant for. Think I need to cross the border to Alberta with my truck and make some smoke. Keep it up man and we appreciate it. Stay healthy and rested.

97 12v nv4500 4:10’s with 37” tires puts me at 2100 at 70mph. When my truck was stock, before governor springs, with stock fueling and 33” tires my truck wouldn’t even do 70mph.

The higher rpm seems to help with the 5th gear nv4500 issues as well, in my personal experience

The truck's I have on the road , except for the '06(3.73 I think?), all have 3:54... I do have a set of 4:11's from a retired truck I may use at some point... My daily truck with a service bed and fuel tank could use those obviously..I just run smaller tires Like factory 245's and turn OD off and it has a full manual valve...it seems to do fine..I've outgrown the desire for big tires with long legged gears cause it isn't practical..but anyway, thank u for the insight on this👍👍...see ya next time..have a good weekend 👊

Thanks for this video, I'm in the process of figuring out if I want to change gear ratio in my cummins swap F350. I spin some pretty good RPM with the factory 4.10, 32" tire and nv4500 at 70. This is a truck that pulls a trailer all of the time, so I don't mind RPM, but I feel like I could get it lower and be better off. This video helped out, thanks.

I'm not sure if those of us who are constantly switching from high way to city would benefit much from changing gear ratio.
I mean depending on where I am going I may mostly run 35-50 (city) or 55-75 (highway) but this all depends on traffic that day or hour and where I am going some days I stay on 55 mph roads most of the day so I'm not running over 62 at the most but then some days I get on a 65-70 mph high way for an hour
Then every now and then I get on the innerstate where I run 75-80 mph for hours straight
Hard to decide how to calculate when the driving conditions change so much
Great video tho btw. I'm really enjoying all your 12/24 valve content

Ever since I lifted On my 6.0 PSD on 38's I've been wanting to go to 4.56's from the stock 3.73's The truck drives fine and not laggy, but with the taller gearing i've been holding off my bigger injectors and turbo due to it being smokey asfuck. Plus with that cheap lift-kit truck gets hella sketchy around 80-85mph now yet at that speed the motor still wants to eat. LOL But what do you think about swapping the stock LSD diff. And get a E-locker like the newer super-duty's have? Ford sells the whole Unit for like only $550 Or are they shitty? I DK much about them
