From watching Brazilian fighters in the UFC and learning some from interviews or showcases about their lives I've had a lot of respect for the people and learned a little about the favelas. The movie City of God "Cidade de Deus" showed a great insight too and to anyone reading this, you should watching this movie, it's great.
I'd love to visit one day. What a life you have mate. This is living the dream, even in the tough situations, it's better than going through the mundane rat race which isn't living, it's more of an existence. All the best for the new year, subbed.

Haha Rocinha isn't all that. It's one of the safest favelas in Rio. They have a set of codes in there. Basically you can't rob or hurt anybody unless you want to answer to drug dealers who will cut your hands off or off you. The locals are told by the drug bosses to leave tourists alone because they bring tons of money to the economy. There are super dangerous favelas in Rio but, this isn't one of them.

such a good english speaker this man is, i'm brazilian and i can say that is always good see some favela's people evolving and showing a better education bcs in the favelas people very often don't have contact even with the basic education, that's very sad so is very cool to see someone being better and even speaking a second language, it shows that the person have studied (just like me who learned a bit of english mostly by myself) , seeks to be a better person and wants to achieve more than the average people in the favelas even wants to, we need more of this here!!

Pronounced “H” if the letter “R” is at the beginning of the name/word and if it’s in the middle, then you pronounce it the same as you would in English. So Rocinha would sound “Hocinha” and Rio de Janeiro would be “Hio de Janeiro” someone please correct me if I’m wrong 🙈

As a tourist, please always keep in mind:
People live in the favelas because they are poor and cannot afford a better life due to a lack of education and opportunities.
Therefore, please always be respectful to everyone you encounter there. Do not behave as if you are visiting a zoo with your family on Sundays.
Ideally, reflect on your life after visiting a favela.
Consider whether you really need the brand new iPhone every two years and all the other electronics.
That being said use it to reflect your priorities and life goals.

Tbh living in a favela is like living in a a small dictatorship within a big country. You'll live peacefully until your interests might conflict the underworld state.
People involved with crime think there is some kind of "honour" or "code" but the fact is that crime is about making a lot of disonorable things to both innocent and the guilty very rarely they question the ethical implications of their choices and they try to justify their deeds by putting on "god's will" or "We're doing for our family". Yeah, I get it, there is the police and all. But it's what about what Callum said "What if they decided that they don't like me" people who are hungry for control and they thrive in these areas. Truly sad yet people romanticise it a lot. Yes, I'm Brazilian as well.

Actually what happens here in Brazil, is that the most reality of the brazilian guys is pretty different of the those ones who lives in Rio and Amazonas. I'm not talking about culture and this stuffs, just saying that in the most cases what people think about Brazil as a Country, is just about Favelas, Carnaval and Amazonas.

@@projeto_cana Cara, acorda!!!
