    The opponent, who was sitting nine shaku away from you, suddenly stands up and tries to attack your head.
    But I’m sure you’re thinking, “What if the opponent swings the katana down from there?”, right? This is when the special Zanshin (state of awareness) of our Ryuha of putting the katana on the chest is useful. But what if the opponent stabs instead? Don’t worry.

    I would love to have that man's knowledge of the sword. The way his body moves with the katana is amazing too. As is his footwork.
    Regardless of the art. It is special to watch a master do his work.

    Appreciate the "fallback" position of sloping the katana blade across the chest for a followup response. We cannot rely on one technique resolving the fight, like so many seem to expect.

      Totally get in man. Dreamed all my life of doing this and always life getting in the way 🥺 But I 66 years old this year and finally got time to not just follow this great Master on RUclips but to be taught by him in online lessons 😊 And for the last 3 months I have learnt so much, especially your never to old and it's never to late to dedicate your life to something. My dream now is to one day be taught by him in person in Japan. The body is having a moan but slowly it will get there. And I am lucky that my wife has taken an interest as well. The failure is only not trying! There are two mistakes along the way to Mastery. Not starting it and Not going all the way. Maybe one day you will get a chance👍 Take care. Stay safe 🙏

      @@gngrdanny can you free up 30 min a day maybe? That's all you need to start building the muscle memory. Find more videos of how to cut, how to step and the proper posture.
      That's all you need. 10000 times each cuts is the way to mastery, as they say!,
      No need for power or speed at first, just feel the blade in motion and make it smooth, fluid.
      Fencing is all about repeating endlessly those cuts. Once it feels more familiar to your body then you can slightly give it more impulse but still keeping in check every proper body mechanics needed.
      If its a dream and will make your life a happier one, maybe you should see if you could free up those 30min now and then.
      As KandJ said rightly, your only real failure would be to never start👊

    Yeah, no it will still lead to double.

    • @SurmaSampo

      Also that horizontal cut and the parry from the chest are incompatible. You can't transition from the cut to the parry fast enough to avoid the downward cut.
      These are very contrived senarios. The attacker daws their sword way too late rushing without any consideration of their own defence. Techniques that require to be superior in skill and ability to your opponent to work are not reliable.

    I struggle to imagine anyone being able to draw, injure their opponent and return the sword to their chest to perry the downward thrust of the blade in one fell swoop.
    Just doesn’t seem possible.

  • @NathanaelTheAussie
    @NathanaelTheAussie Год назад +2

    I say this with the utmost respect for you guys putting your system out there, but this move will still result in a double hit. You are unable to perform that cut and that block in the same speed it takes for the opponent to do that one cut.
    At worst, he strikes your sword downwards and hits you. At best, it is a double hit and you both are cut.
    It would be good to see these movements with both individuals moving at the same pace and with the same tempo.

    • @NathanaelTheAussie
      @NathanaelTheAussie Год назад

      @@CraigHocker I appreciate the civility and the further information 🙏 in these videos, however, they are not claiming to show omote no waza but actual step by step process of what to do.
      I personally find the hidden/public form idea to be a little counter intuitive, mainly due to the fact that: 1) it makes it very easy to justify ineffective techniques (not saying that is what is being done here necessarily, just making a statement), and 2) One will revert to what one knows best in a pressured situation (not distinguish between omote and ura no waza). To adjust the draw shown in this video to ensure a double hit doesn’t happen is going to change the technique’s movement so much that it would look very different, more so than a few simple adjustments like going from omote to ura. That’s just my opinion.
      In addition, even changing the cut to being upwards does not fix the situation unless one also moves out of range, otherwise it is still a double hit due to physics and range.
      Despite this, I still feel my original point still stands: these movements need to be pressure tested in protective kit against a non compliant opponent to demonstrate its effectiveness.
