When I was in school, in the 70s and 80s, I don't remember anyone having a backpack. I also don't remember ever going back-to-school shopping. I mean, if I needed a pair of shoes, or something, we got it. But, no specific shopping for school. And, my mother was a teacher. I still have my crayons.😂 My favorite store, when I had a job, in high school, was Judy's. Fun, funky clothes. I wish they were still around.
I got 5 outfits 1 for each day of the week. school day that is and one pair of shoes. I was thrilled because I got to pick all the stuff out. Life was so much simpler when you did not have to keep up with the Joneses!
We also did not have backpacks for school. We just carried what we needed. 😅 also, my bday is in August, so I usually just got clothes for back to school and maybe a new pair of shoes. When I got older, most of $$ made from babysitting and odd jobs went towards what I needed.

My high school had lockers to hold our stuff. I hated the combination locks, I was always nervous about not being able to open it. In the late 70’s I had typing classes & homemaking where I learned how to cook & sew! Good old days. ✏️
Oh the memories. I was a wreck at the sewing portion of Home Ec. I sewed my sleeve to my project, and spent the next class hour seam ripping the two apart. Also took typing and stenography. I can still hear our teachers voice. "Eyes on your copy, fingers on your keys, aaaannnd TYPE! (Judy Vanderploeg)

I am a 1963 baby. When I was growing up flash cards were the only thing and/or workbooks that were sold in department stores that no longer exist. Computers were the future. I graduated HS in 1981 and did not have a computer class till last semester. Typing class was as far as it goes during that time period. Land of the lost.😮😮😮😅😊

I was going to college at night, studying accounting and working full time during the day. I ended up changing my major and graduated with a degree in Computer Science and spent the rest of my career in IT Support for both software and hardware.

I get so excited for the after school starts back to school deals even more when the stuff is super cheap because they want them off The shelves for Halloween! I bought each of my kids a Pottery Barn backpack and they have lasted for literally over a decade. LL Bean bags are the same high end quality as well. Some things are worth the price tag!

My mom bought me a $125 North Face backpack my freshmen or sophomore year of high school. I used it through college and still have it and it's in great condition. I'm 32 now.
My son has the same Roots backpack from Costco (Canada ) for 6 yrs and it’s still going strong. I wash it a few times throughout the yr and he even uses it for camps in summer. Now he basically just gets on the bus and off and it gets hung up, he doesn’t toss it around.
Yay!!! 400K subbies. You deserve it and so many more. Always here for the Kim-isms. I even used Salmonella I dare ya last Christmas and everyone laughed...of course I said As Kim would day lol 💜💙💚💛🧡 p.s. hahahahahahahahaha The water bottle explanation. Thanks for that...I needed it.
Back to school is sooo different for us in Sweden. The only thing we have to provide for our kids going to school is basically gym clothes and a towel and obviously something to carry them in, preferably some kind of bag if they need to carry some books, but mostly they don't. The school provides a computer for them from the fifth year in school and a computer sleeve/bag which is mostly enough for their school work like books or papers. All other material needed in school is provided by the school, like pencils, rulers, note pads, etc. Lunch is also served every day, so no need to bring any food. School lunch is under law to be nutritious and free of charge for all children during the years that are compulsory, which is ten years.
Baby to school to to be "oh shoot summer's over😢 and also YES!! School's starting no more fighting!!!😅 But I always liked having my kids home for summer! Love the outlet stores even though we don't have much to choose from. I love how you get your kids really nice things at great prices. We had an Nike outlet in Dublin, Ireland but they closed after covid 😵💫 You can still get the outlet prices online but with some kids you need try the shoes on...ugh..mom life in Ireland is super expensive at the moment. Thanks for sharing your haul xx
My son got a Northface backpack for 2nd grade and is still using it going into 9th grade this year. That particular one is made soo well that it has withstood the test of time. My other son has went through several backpacks.

Baby to school to to be "oh shoot summer's over😢 and also YES!! School's starting no more fighting!!!😅 But I always liked having my kids home for summer! Love the outlet stores even though we don't have much to choose from. I love how you get your kids really nice things at great prices. We had an Nike outlet in Dublin, Ireland but they closed after covid 😵💫 You can still get the outlet prices online but with some kids you need try the shoes on...ugh..mom life in Ireland is super expensive at the moment. Thanks for sharing your haul xx

My son got a Northface backpack for 2nd grade and is still using it going into 9th grade this year. That particular one is made soo well that it has withstood the test of time. My other son has went through several backpacks.
