when you were showing the shorts you got for Meredith and commented on how short they were compared to Wentworth’s it reminded me of a video I saw on how we sexualize girls from a young age, as evidenced by how short their shorts and skirts are even as babies, toddlers etc. It never really occurred to me until I watched that video and it really tee’d me off when I got to thinking about it!

So much fun stuff!!!! I love back to school shopping. Both of my kids will be in middle school this year. It’s my daughters first year in middle school. I know it can get expensive but it’s always nice to see them excited about going back.

I have an obsession with Old Navy T-shirts but only get them on sale and yes their signs can be confusing. I just remember I have a coupon for them so will be going back. Even tho I do not have kids I enjoyed seeing all the stuff. It is so different now although it has been over 50 years for me. Thank you Alex for your service in the military!!!

Heads up Kim, as a Canadian I know that lululemon will refund you your military discount if it doesn’t apply too. I pretty much only wear lululemon (it started up when I was really into dance as a youth, and I still have items from back then, that still look great and fit!) if the backpack has any issues they have great warranty too. If the zipper breaks, they’ll replace/fix it. If you have leggings and fall and they tear, they’ll mend them, all they ask is to have them freshly washed before they mend.

Happy back to school!! Our schools are starting back August 21st. My 2 oldest have graduated and my baby is a freshman this year 😢 No lockers here which is crazy to me lol. I'm super excited about this year because I just made a complete career change and will be a teacher's aid at our preschool 🎉❤ I hope everyone has a great year!

We did some shopping for my youngest (11, almost 12) - she is growing so much rn, she is now officially taller than me 😅 so, she needed pants that actually reach her feet, for beginning of school on Monday - also love the idea of the care package for the older girls, I need to do that for her as well, thank you for sharing and for the inspiration ❤

Our school starts at 4th grade for middle school. So my 9year old is starting a new school in a few weeks. We start Aug 30th after our fair comes. School supplies are expensive I have 3 going this year kindergarten 1st and 4th grade. Enjoy the last minute of summer thanks for sharing. Happy back to school. ❤❤

Good morning! When my son was in school middle school were grades 6-8 high school 9th and 10th were in one school, 11th and 12th another school. The schools he went to, they were not allowed to have lockers so they had to carry everything they needed every day. I remember the school shopping and school supply lists, I don't miss it lol. My son has always had expensive taste in clothing, let's just say God knew what he was doing by just giving me one child 😂. Love the sweater, it's definitely a whole vibe.

I am 68😂 years old. When I went to school, elementary was 1st - 6th grade. Junior high was 7th - 9th grade, and Sr. High was 10th - 12th. Things have changed. My folks always did their best. We knew to take care of our things. I used some of the same things for multiple years. When I bought for my children, I told them take care of the supplies cause I might not be able to afford them again. Just different times I guess 🤷. Love watching and sharing with you, as usual 😊

Hey Kim! Thanks for another interesting and entertaining video! I am an elementary public school teacher in Canada. Our school year is from the Tuesday after Labour Day until the end of June. Our elementary school grades are JK (junior kindergarten) to grade eight. They are separated by 3 divisions. The primary division is JK-grade 3, the junior division is grades 4-6, the intermediate division is grades 7 & 8. We do not usually receive gifts from the children and their families at the beginning of school. We often receive gifts at Christmas and at the end of the school year. Have a great week! I buy my daughter the softest tees from Old Navy. They are great for children who have texture issues. I only buy when they are on sale either online or at the Old Navy Outlet.

North face backpacks have been the most sturdiest as far as I can tell. I’ve had one last my daughter three years and it looks brand new. They are on the pricey side but I think they are worth it.

Here in southern California, 5th grade is still elementary. That feels so young to have 10/11 year olds apart of middle school. I'm just thinking of the social dynamics of 7th and 8th grade. I can't imagine adding in 5th grade to that. Sixth grade varies by district and schools if they're apart of elementary or middle. I'm in the mindset 6th grade should be apart of elementary too. Also, your editing flashbacks are the BEST!!! My daughter loves you too and calls you "the funny lady in Florida" haha!
Omg. Love the Jansport backpacks. I graduated in 1993 and still have my Jansport backpack from 11th grade. I still use it from time to time.
Where I live we have elementary grades k-4, then intermediate school grades 5&6, then middle school grades 7&8 and then high school grades 9-12! This is my first year with a school age kiddo, a big kindergartener! I have been so excited to see your back to school shopping.

Im so jealous that you have supply lists! Our district gives us the bare bones lists but says to wait until you get your teacher assignments to see what they actually need, then go shopping. So yes a scramble for mom! We find out their teachers this week...then school starts the 28th!
Oh and my daughter is starting 5th, which here is still considered elementary, even though she's going to a new school for it. Grades 5&6 together in one building, 7&8, then 9-12. Its so different from when i grew up lol it was k-8 in one building, then 9-12 in another...

As a helper for the teachers I do feel like we get left out a lot more than you think. We make the class room run smoothly and even take on the teaching sometimes.

Kim, I don't know if you've tried this brand or not but The Children's Place and Gymboree (same company) has school clothes (including skorts/shorts for girls) and they are very good quality. I signed up for their rewards and get coupons ALL the time in the app. And best part, shipping is ALWAYS free!!!! No matter the amount. So, I always get my daughter's "cart wheel" or "biker" shorts from them when they're on sale. 😊 Also, I think our school systems have 5th grade as elementary, always has been that way. I'm in Louisiana.❤

in our district it's K-4 elementary, 5&6 intermediate, 7&8 middle, and 9-12 high.
all schools have lockers, some are in classroom and don't have doors, 7th grade on they have locked lockers in the hall ways.

Our district buildings are prek-2nd, 3rd-6th, 7/8, freshman, and then HS. We will be converting to pre k in one building, k-5th, 6-8, and then adding freshman back to the regular HS over the next decade as they build new buildings for some things.
I feel your frustrations on the school shorts! Here in Australia it's the same! I guess it's the designers that make the shorts. But our uniforms section is unisex. So all the sizes are a unisex (mostly "boycut") unless it's a specific item like a dress or the lable has "girls hoodie" or "girls legging".
As a mother of very tall girls we get the unisex track pants and shorts. They're more comfortable haha

I'm so glad i'm in England where almost everything is provided (other than uniform, scientific calculator, maths set, and art pad, 2 pens, 2 pencils) as i couldnt be that organised. This British girl is not Mary Poppins. 😂😂😂

I think back to when my 3 girls were in school and Kim I feel for you. You also have a baby and it's so tiring to shop and then bring it home try to organize things. I live in the Chicagoland area and my daughter’s Jr. High is 6-8th and she’s going to be in 8th grade and her first day is next week August 16th! Good thing in a period kit is extra pair of underwear and a ziplock bag to put the soiled ones in so they don’t throw them out!! My daughter did that! Also a travel size of flushable wipes incase they need extra clean up! I have a period kit for her locker and a little one in her backpack! Also the nurse will have supplies. When my daughter was in elementary school I had a period kit in the nurses office just incase she started there! Thanks Covid I didn’t have to worry about that she was home in 5th grade!

I had an Eastpak during all of high school in Germany. My sister had a Jansport. Ours had a real leather bottom though, not the pleather version you showed. But they lasted us during all of high school.

Our schools in small town in SC have to carry clear plastic backpacks. They started that last year. Not sure if it's all schools in SC or not. Crazy what we have come to in this world.
I’m in south Texas and clear backpacks are required this year and lockers aren’t allowed anymore in our district. Students carry binder/supplies in their “clear” backpack grades k-12. Also, elementary here is k-5, middle school is 6-8. That’s how it’s been since I was in school and I’m 36!
