It’s hard to ask the students to not wear jewelry when 2 of the 3 alumni were wearing earrings. The lady has big Diamond earrings and elderly man was even wearing an earring. God help us, we truly are Laodicea.

It is sad that very frequently the SDA Church is coming up lately with some members boldly finding ways of trying to change the guidelines of the church by going outside into the world and then come back forcing the world’s ideas/opinions into the church. Our Church do have the message (The WORD of GOD), why is the Church allowing such things to rock the church? We need to stand on God’s Word and look, and be soldiers in Christ and not look or become like the world. This is not the time to be idle and allowing the devil and his angels to manipulate the mind. The Church is not the devil’s ground. What is of the world stays in the world. What’s of the Church stays True and Holy for it is God’s church. He’s coming back for a pure, clean church in Christ Jesus. God blessings!

Notice the concerned Oakwoodites issue is about the money. The reality is that our educational system is NOT now what it was founded to be. A large part of this is that we no longer emphasize the aspect of service in what education students are getting. Instead focusing on the idea of get a good job so you can buy a house get married, have kids, retire. None of this is about building the kingdom through winning souls. This is the MAIN issue: my future, ny job status, my retirement. Me. Me. Me.
This is NOT what we are supposed to be doing at all and is antithetical to the great commission. We are in it for the numbers. Our schools enrollments are down because most of the students that are enrolled are on the back end of the younger adults that had kids in the 2000s. Those days are numbered. Very few of our people are having kids now in our churches. The replacement rate is not sustainable and thus our institutions are at the crossroads of shuttering because of the low enrollment.
What has been the short term solution? Enroll more to bump numbers up, but the students enrolled are not paying tuition (large number of immigrant students includingat our boarding Academies) and the colleges/universities can't cover the costs hence we have the high ratio of debt to assets.
Now all this could have been avoided to begin with had we listened to the counsel given to us through the SoP.

I am an Oakwood alumni. What attracted me to Oakwood is the enforcement of modesty, not wearing jewelry, worship and vegetarianism. I am shocked and dumbfounded that now they are even contemplating this. Mark my words once jewelry is allowed then they will allow LGBTQ in and endorse it and soon Sabbath worship will be optional. If this is not signs of the times I don’t know what is. I will never support Oakwood again if this change occur

Trying to understand who is appying the pressure. If only SDAs go to Oakwood then I agree to keep the ban up and it should be a non issue in the first place. If non-SDAs go there, they would have signed some code of ethics to say I agree not to were jewellery while am here. Is it the SDAs or non SDAs forcing this? Is it that they are doing this to increase there population at the school? Are they the only adventist school wih this stance?

It was my thought that the theory of Adventist Christain's not wearing jewelry was because it distinguished us from the Sunday Church who keep Sunday the first day of the week for the Sabbath vs those who keep the Seventh Day Sabbath like the Seventh Day Adventist. What is the Education Department of the North American Division and the World Adventist Church Education Department going to do about the policy changes at Oakwood Adventist University. If the students who attended Oakwood University do not like the policies of Oakwood Adventist University whey do not find another school to attend if they are not happy with Oakwood Adventist University where they can do as they please but do not temp Oakwood Adventist University to do wrong. Yes, we are living in the last days and you cannot stop the Devil for the prophesies must come forth but, God is Lord. We may not be able to stop Satin and the evil of this world may have to be played out in these last days for Jesus Christ to return, but it does not mean that the Adventist Church as to put up with willingly disbalance. As Christians no matter what the world or other Christain Church Denominations do to carry out their policy, we are to stand for right though the Heavens fall and call out the sins in the church. If the Seventh Day Church does not justify the wearing of jewelry by their church members as the Remnant Church because it distinguishes them from the Sunday worshiping churches, vs the Sabbath keeping churches, then our schools of higher education should abide by that policy and not defy it. For defying the principles and policies of the Seventh Day Adventist Chruch and Denomination is very disrespectful to God and his church. So, if it is now ok for Oakwood University to wear jewelry on a Adventist Christian College? Now what about the other Adventist Christian collages around the world? Lord God when did being like the world make the Adventist Church behavior more like Jesus?

When you go into an employer to get a job, you don't supply them with the conditions of working there, he, the employer supplies you with the requirements. You say I'll it or I will look elsewhere. These great institutions didn't become great by allowing fresh recruits to set the standards. You as a student have come to get something. It's called an Education. When you apply make sure you are on the right side of the table. You cannot give what you don't have. Some of the reason our society is in the shape it is in is because the applicant wants to tell the institutions how to do business. When you see this you can see why we have so much trouble in our schools and society. In closing these students are not here to set policies etc. They are here to get an education from that institution. If you don't like it go somewhere else. All this rioting and stuff on campus should be outlawed. It's totally unfair allow these people to do this to our schools and properties. Stop petitioning here and go to Palestine or Gaza and do something there.

I used to teach at Oakwood over a decade ago. This present problem of allowing jewelry on campus is nothing new. The policy existed, but students went against the policy with impunity. I tried to address the situation but had no one to back me up. Consequently, I became the problem. Maintaining standards can lead to a loss of employment. But even in retrospect, I would not have altered my course of action. We can expect more things like this (and worse) from the brethren before Jesus' return. Pray for Oakwood University.

Oakwood University is not the only SDA school/university where students wear jewelry. You can go on any SDA college or university campus and you will find people wearing jewelry. So why are you singling out Oakwood University. I was on the campus of La Serra University and went into the Art gallery to view someone’s work on display and when I entered the building the first thing I saw was Pride flags around the gallery. I was so shocked to see such a display since it goes against what we believe as Bible believing Christians. I feel there’s more important issues that need to be addressed versus jewelry. We must get back to preaching and teaching the true word of God in our churches and schools. Wearing Jewelry will not send anyone to heaven or hell unless they are convicted by the Holy Spirit and ignore the Spirit. People are free to choose whatever lifestyle they want to live because God created as free human beings. But it’s our duty to preach the word of God(planting the seed) and let the Holy Spirit do the rest. Let’s stand united in praying for our church, and especially our young people. 🙏🏽

The cause of this jewelry problem at Oakwood University is a ripple effect. It started in the home, where the parents are not teaching the kids in the way of the Lord, the children only go to church. Then the church they attend is not holding up the standard either. Then those same children want to continue the habit at school. And if they cannot get away with it at Oakwood, they are opting to attend other Colleges. Now Oakwood is feeling the heat financially.

Jewelry-wearing does as well, meaning that it can be seen everywhere, even in churches. I am not discussing its salvific implications here. I just wonder if the petition has its roots in provable evidence that the university is ALLOWING it, lifting bans, etc. Are there other sources for your story, Bro, Lawrence? NO one who are not learning to know Gods will , plan and purpose, knowing themselves, WILL NOT be growing in sanctification. Everything we do is work the outward, as we are taught; everything we do, and it comes from pride ( the root of other sin) it shows that we are not maturing…

Is jewelry wearing a point of salvation? Not to belabor this point, but is jewelry wearing a sin? Will the matriarchs and patriarchs that we honor in our Sabbath sermons be lost because they wore jewelry. Im clear that God allowed some practices that He did not ordain. What about pins and broaches, feathers, colorful fabrics? Does it matter if it is on a dress or lapel, ornate watches or just on the ears, clip-on or pierced. Are we straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel? At one time women didn't wear pants which was thought to be men's apparel. Every pic i see of Bible characters show men and women wearing robe like dresses. Are these topics traditions, Biblical principles, or preferences base on how we were brought up? It's an age old debate. Who has proof of salvific requirements regarding this topic. If we are serious about Evangelism and put students out without teaching them the Bible truth, what is our true mission?

Also in SOP it was mentioned that we should not wear jewelry spend money on it, only unless it was lawful in your country to wear a wedding band. But a lot of money wasn't supposed to be spent on it.
