I imagined a book with poisoned pages that was written extra boring so possible victims have to spend more time reading it while absorbing more and more of the deadly venom...
The pages undoubtedly are poisonous There were no really good green until fairly recently. The best they had were deadly toxic. Emerald green was also used as rat poison,
But why would anyone keep reading a deadly boring book? I guess it would have to be mandatory, like a school book, which makes the whole idea much darker...
i get the feeling the view count will increase massively as more people become aware of the series. Also most of the target audience for these kinds of videos are older folks who don't usually get on RUclips to begin with. I'm very happy they are being produced, though! Such a great thing to have for future generations.
It's all relative. I reckon the view count mostly depends on the general interest in the subject and the fame of the author. I spent 4 years researching and writing an online history of a 1930s ski resort near my home in Australia and I'm utterly thrilled that something that obscure has 10,000 views. But I guess Brady Haran is (justly) famous, so do we expect lots of views for everything he does?
I was expecting this video to be about a book describing some parasitic plant species that bore holes into their victims (bigger trees for example) with its roots until they died...

I would have expected the life of an early explorer of Australian Fauna and Flora to be less boring, but more short, painful and horrificly innovative in terms of how it ends.
I was expecting them to say the book was cursed or something. Are there any "cursed" items in the Royal Society? Perhaps something from Egypt? Could be a good Halloween episode!
This book would have been of great interest to its intended readers, botanist. While there may or may not be good reasons for its relatively poor quality, the extremely important information it contained on a wealth of newly discovered genera and species endemic to 'New Holland' would have been a treasure trove for scientist and plant enthusiast alike.
Why was there seemingly so little effort - at least to make it attractive to the layman - put into this book? Anything to do with Anglo-Dutch rivalry? Or perhaps the same reason the Dutch decided to give a pass on Australia because it appeared to be a wasteland?
Keith tends to use this technique to encourage the listener to imagine the time as it happened. Makes it sound less like rote history and more like people making living decisions.
The dynamic duo dazzle everybody yet again with their amazing use of whit and metaphor.
That book has been Grangerized!
Those pictures are unbelievably beautiful!
Extraordinary pictures of those plants. No one could paint like this nowadays anymore. Painted on vellum (calf skin).
These pictures are so beautiful. I've always liked old botanical pictures,I'd love to have some hanged in my home.
Glad I'm not the only person who likes to smell old books ;P
Those aloe paintings are exquisite.
They are, and I can't even draw a convincing stick figure

Despite the lack of views (large amounts), this channel is still growing!
Those plant images are beautiful.
Number of view on these videos make me sad
I consistently watch all of these videos, never really realized they all have such low view count, wow.

Fast forward to 2020....

It's a shame New Holland didn't stick, New Holland and New Zealand would've been a nice pair.
We could have had New Amsterdam too if the Americans didn't insist on renaming it New York.
Is Keith's hair permanented into wavy curls? Or am I just imaginging it that it is the natural flow of his hair?
Why was the first book written in German?

steryotype about scientists not interested in making their work more...colourful. Misconception of human perception to those outside the frame of mind
THANK YOU.I AM BORED NOW.
"deadly boring plant book"
are you running out of ideas Brady?
Jokes aside, great Video like allways.
Is it possible to die of boredom?
Brady your hair!
no watch
0:57 - why suddenly go into the present tense? It jars.

Thanks, I can see your point. Maybe that device just doesn't work for me.
I thought it was a book about deadly boring plants, i.e. plants that bore into people's skulls and kill them.
Disappointment.
oh man yea.. boring
first
Truly boring.
...I'm pretty sure this is the most pretentious channel on RUclips
I love these shows. Thank you guys!
