- 🚀 Bangladesh's economy has transformed dynamically in just 52 years of independence! 🌍 From a nation with low expectations to surpassing both India and Pakistan in income per person, Bangladesh is a remarkable success story. 💼 With a thriving Ready-Made Garments sector boosting exports and GDP, the country has seen consistent economic growth exceeding 7%. 📈 Challenges ahead include the risk of overdependence on a single sector and potential loss of trade privileges.🇧🇩💰

As a Bangladeshi, I have to admit that the government has failed to diversify the export sector. It is too much reliant on a single sector. There is a lack of entrepreneurship. Most tech students flock to foreign countries for higher education and don't return. There is also rampant corruption and political instability which hinder the nation's progress. The recent democratic backsliding will worsen the situation. 😢
same with india they dont fucking care about peoples they are busy filling their pockets
Authoritarianism in the past 8-9 years ruined what the people built since 1990.
Diversification of economy should be the first priority here
It's not the government's job to diversify a country's export basket. The correct term would be that our government has failed to "allow" diversification of our export sector and economy as a whole due to faulty policymaking and implementations like higher import tariffs on some engine parts; effectively cutting off potential welfare gains from value addition.

nice explanation by Econ. its really interesting that Bangladesh has come so far based on only single rmg sector. as a Bangladeshi i can confirm that starting business in Bangladesh is so complex and time consuming because of corruption, poor bureaucracy. plus we have a government that has been ruling the country for the last 15 years, although this ensured political stability but the government's poor policies, corruption, money laundering has hampered the economy.

Corruption is the biggest hindrance in economic growth of Bangladesh.
In light of the ongoing global economic crisis, it is crucial for everyone to prioritize investing in diverse sources of income that are not reliant on the government. This includes exploring opportunities in stocks, gold, silver, and digital currencies. Despite the challenging economic situation, it remains a favorable time to consider these investments.
The pathway to substantial returns doesn't solely rely on stocks with significant movements. Instead, it revolves around effectively managing risk relative to reward. By appropriately sizing your positions and capitalizing on your advantage repeatedly, you can progressively work towards achieving your financial goals. This principle applies across various investment approaches, whether it be long-term investing or day trading.
Even with the right strategies and appropriate assets, investment returns can differ among investors. Recognizing the vital role of experience in investment success is crucial. Personally, I understood this significance and sought guidance from a market analyst, significantly growing my account to nearly a million. Strategically withdrawing profits just before the market correction, I'm now seizing buying opportunities once again.

The best time for the Bengal was (1576-1765). The Bengal Subah also referred to as Mughal Bengal, was the largest subdivision of Mughal India encompassing much of the Bengal region, which includes modern-day Bangladesh, the Indian state of West Bengal, and some parts of the present-day Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha between the 16th and 18th centuries. The state was established following the dissolution of the Bengal Sultanate, a major trading nation in the world when the region was absorbed into the Mughal Empire. Bengal was the wealthiest region in the Indian subcontinent.
Bengal Subah has been variously described as the "Paradise of Nations "and the "Golden Age of Bengal". It alone accounted for 40% of Dutch imports from Asia. The eastern part of Bengal was globally prominent in industries such as textile manufacturing and shipbuilding, and it was a major exporter of silk and cotton textiles, steel, saltpeter, and agricultural and industrial produce in the world. The region was also the basis of the Anglo-Bengal War.
By the 18th century, Bengal emerged as a semi-independent state, under the rule of the Nawabs of Bengal, who acted on Mughal sovereignty. It started to undergo proto-industrialization, making significant contributions to the first Industrial Revolution, especially industrial textile manufacturing. In 1757 and 1764, the Company defeated the Nawab of Bengal at the Battle of Plassey and the Battle of Buxar, and Bengal came under British influence. It was deindustrialized.
But we must not live in the past, we should look at new future and compete with world, Bangladesh should move towards science and tech which could happen given the current GDP and low military requirements compared to Pakistan which use almost all of its money on Military

The next economic crisis is anticipated to be more severe, primarily because we won't have the financial means to bail it out as we did in the past. The previous crisis should have been more severe, yet it wasn't as catastrophic as anticipated. Additionally, individuals defaulting on their debts are likely to include those with good credit scores and loans carrying higher interest rates, amplifying the gravity of the situation in various aspects. Moreover, the current scenario is exacerbated by inflation depreciating the dollar and impacting markets, unlike the previous crisis, aside from high gas prices.
Inflation is causing a multitude of issues globally, ranging from food shortages to shortages in diesel and heating fuel, as well as escalating housing prices and the risk of a financial market crash. These factors are converging, and by the year's end, it could result in a full-fledged disaster.

Political parties are a huge obstacle for Bangladesh (whether it's the current ruling party whom are autocratic and extremely corrupt ot the opposite party whom are extremely radical and are threat to secularism).
The political parties of our country has lot of problems and none of them are near ideal.
Right
Corruption has been always it didn't came today.
The situation isn't that dire really. To be frank, it's as dire as it is bright. The reason our economy hasn't been doing well lately was because of macroeconomic instability. All of it was preventable and it's nice to see small steps are being taken gradually. I'm sure the upcoming finance minister will pick up the pace. Mainly, in making interest rates market oriented, faster. I still have concerns over the exchange rate issue though. Will they float taka fast enough? Time will tell. Bangladesh Bank still tries to occasionally prevent other banks from buying dollars at higher rates. They just need to look past the short term gains. Macroeconomics stability is key in attracting investments of all forms, be it FDI or local - hence FDI has been dropping over the years.

You’ve clearly never lived in Korea and your knowledge of that country and its economics appears to be from the University of Twitter. The gap between rich and poor exists yes, but the standard of living for the poor is actually quite high. It’s all relative of course and anyone outside the top 1% will always have something to complain about, but the country continues to grow and thrive and a key reason is the basics are taken care of, and at a really high level, and really the standard of almost everything is quite high even in comparison to other OECD countries. Food and transportation are ridiculously affordable despite the quality being world class, education too, and homelessness is extremely low. The country has its share of problems and challenges but the superficial talking points you mention ignore some key truths about Korea’s economy. The proof is in the pudding. The country just works. I am from Bangladesh. The biggest threat to bangladesh is the authoritarian leadership, which will only increase corruption and inefficiency..year 2022 forex reserve was 48 billion US dollar now it is only 13 billion US dollar. Bangladesh will collapse soon if massive money laundering and corruption cannot stop.😢
Undoubtedly, there has been serious damage in the DOING BUSINESS index over the years. Though its ranking has started back towards good ranking very slowly from 2018. To improve on this ranking, the government appointed some officials to improve this ranking. But, there is doubt whether doing business has become easy or not.
In contrast to FDI, private investment had steadily increased from 12.5% of GDP in 1981 to 17.3% in 2000, reaching a high of 25.3% in 2019. Though it has declined from the pandemic period. Also, the success rate of government development has increased over the years. Without FDI growth, steady growth of GDP indicates an independent capability of doing better economically.
No economy achieved by humanity to this date has been sustainable. The better question is, "Will it last long enough to transform into something else useful?"

I wished this would have been a more nuanced content, since you're promoting this as an economics channel :(((

Bangladesh economy become stronger just for Hasina... And I support her ❤️ best leader of Bangladesh...
The biggest obstacle to Bangladesh's development is now India. India wants to snatch production and foreign investments away from Bangladesh to its own country. Bangladesh buys electricity at higher price from Adani. It doesn't let Bangladesh transport goods to Nepal and Bhutan via its land, while it uses thousands of km of Bangladeshi roads to transport goods to its north-east. Bangladesh allows Indian ships to dock at its port for a lower price but they don't give Bangladesh such facility.
Bangladesh enjoys support from India through aid and political help internationally, billions of dollars of assistance and diplomatic support from India provides stability to Bangladesh which in turn helps Bangladesh to grow.
China & Garments sector is behind the growth of Bangladesh not India. Bangladesh only takes loans from India to maintain friendship with higher interest rate than other countries. And Bangladesh didn't receive any Indian diplomatic support in Rohingya crisis and other international issues. The only help Bangladesh got from India was in 71 and that's only because India wanted to weaken Pakistan. @@yashwanthchill7684
Try to innovate technology like Germans as well the Jewish community instead of blaming others.
Bangladesh literally has a monopoly on the cheapest garment sweatshops due to absent labour codes and bare minimum wages, no insurance and tax evasion. It’s very hard for India to capture the textile market back so Indian traders just buy the cheap goods from bdesh and resell it to others using better IT infra and contacts and ofc ports for the shipments.
Speaking of which you do realise that India too heavily invests in Bdesh right? And if electricity is such a problem why can’t you produce your own through hydropower dams? Or set up large solar parks?Unless one lacks the capital or the capacity to build and innovate, nothing will change.
Your own government agreed to the terms that Adani had given and that electricity is benefiting the industries more than the people, helping the country industrialise further. Ofc it won’t be cheap considering cost of transferring the said electricity via transformers from Jharkhand all the way to West Bengal and then into Bdesh is also borne by Adani. Do remember that we also need that electricity that you’re getting from Adani. If tomorrow this link were to shutdown I can only imagine how much more pressure it would add to the industries and houses in Dhaka that rely on it moreover on the Govts forex reserves in buying more and more coal with only a few plants to process it. Your own limitations have caused your state to take a deal such as Adanis. Your total output of all plants combined is around 22.7GW, Adani has to provide Dhaka with 1.6GW for the next 25 years, while already importing 1.16GW. Do the maths and see how much percentage 1.16GW is of 22.7.
You can alternatively let him build coal thermal plants within Bdesh itself to get cheaper electricity but do remember he will without a doubt maintain a majority stake if not 49% stake.
@@yashwanthchill7684billions of dollars aid? Please mention some. Business agreements aren't aid.

India will limit Bangladesh economy very soon. There are almost 10 million illegal Bangladeshi in India sending at least 6 billion $ back, harming India interest. Even India provide electricity to its national grid. Not to mentioned large cotton export critical for its large export oriented textile industry. There will be concrete effort to deport them through legal means or at least take their jobs and business coupled with creating end to end textile industry in India with hardly any cotton left to export Not to mentioned India own elec tricity needs. Bangladesh must prepare for it, which anyway is hard and hence its economy is expected to flounder.

For fair comparison, India appears to be less developed than Bangladesh due to its poor states of UP, Bihar, West Bengal etc.. Otherwise, southern, western and northern states are all economically and socially ahead of Bangladesh. India's Maharashtra has a per capita GDP around $3500 while Bangladesh at $2600.. It has less population than Bangladesh but GDP more than Bangladesh.. If Bangladesh would have been a state of India, it would have been a moderate fast growing coastal state like. UP is developing fast but other sluggish states are what making India poorer than it seems.

Pakistan is facing just a minor hiccup in its development. We Pakistanis Support the development of Bangladesh. They are our brothers. Look at those graphs, only after 2010 or so, India crossed above Pakistan and Bangladesh around 2015. That means Pakistan was ahead of India and Bangladesh for 60+ years in the past 77 years of Independence. It's a fact. This is a short term set back for Pakistan, if you look at overall performance. 60 Years being the leader in South Asia, is not a small achievement, and recent slow down was due to political instability. Now, hopefully, Insha Allah, Pakistan will grow more, with New government. Imran Khan's tenure, from 2018, caused a lot of economic slow down, as graphs also indicate. China was always and is a strong Ally of Pakistan, Imran Khan, started to move Pakistan away from Chinese Alliance. This caused a significant set back. Once things stabilize, and Pakistan, China alliance, grows back to its pre-2018 level of cooperation, before Imran Khan's arrival, Pakistan will stabilize and move again. Just like it has in the past. It can do so again, Insha Allah. We wish all the best to People of Bangladesh. Good friendship is the way to go, for all the countries.
