I traveled Australia in the early 90s in a GH Sigma SE wagon similar to this. Gutsy but economical 2.6 & 5 speed box. So easy and comfortable to drive. Still my favourite car of all. Thanks Mark for the memories.☺
@@davidcoote4831 Thanks. When I used to work for Mitsubishi I would get to drive various GJ, GK and GN. My favourite was a factory black GSR 5 speed. 👍
My first car was a sigma in 1978. Since then I've owned 28 Mitsubishi cars. The wagon was released in 1978. But your right, for a while it was the top selling car in Australia out selling both Holden and Ford. The take over was completed in 1980.
My first car was the 79 chrysler GE with the Astron 1.8L. Made just down the road from me. She made it to 382,000km and I'd give anything to have her back. They are little rippers!
Reminds me of my first car I ever owned it was a 1980 GH Chrysler Sigma SE sedan with the 2.0l Astron motor with a 5spd manual transmission. Mine was cream with a tan vinyl roof. Bought back memories
Hey mate, I had the 1980 Chrysler GH Sigma SE sedan 2.0L auto all thru my 20s. My pride and joy back in the day. Mine was white with the forest green interior. I regretted selling her in the early 90s and have since bought a 79 SE auto. Gorgeous cars, so quiet and smooth!
This car is owned by my friend David. I really like it. Great interior with leather trim and the features are pretty comprehensive as you can see. The ride of the car is also very smooth and comfortable. I think I want one now! Please comment, click the Like button and SUBSCRIBE for more old car videos. Thanks for watching.
@@ckaparos yes. It is very cool. Forte police pack is not that accessible at the moment as it’s in storage, however, I’ll definitely feature it once I can easily access it again.
The 2.6L manual were lovely to drive. We had an 2.6L 80's wagon and was very swish and a great drive. Your one needs it's idle looking at though, revving way too high. Thanks for sharing. Love it!
Thanks very much Club 1 Fan. The 2.6 manuals had plenty of get up and go in the later models. Please subscribe for more old car videos if you haven’t already.
Agree. I have quite a few wagons and if you check out the channel there are some videos on a cool 86 Mercury Colony Park. I’ll post so e other wagons at a later time in Country Squire, Olds Custom Cruiser, LeBaron Town and Country and 78 Colony Park.
Hi Mark, great post and overview on this sensational Sigma SE ! A credit to her devoted owner. I have a 1979 Chrysler Sigma SE auto sedan in Tiger Yellow with the beige velour button/pleated interior. Aircon still works and 73,000kms original. I can hear that sweet Astron 2000 singing away as they do, a beautifully smooth engine with exceptional power for the day...more so than Sigma's rivals. Thanks for posting! Cheers, Mark
Thanks Mark Your Sigma sounds terrific. Lucky you to have such a nice example. Appreciate the comments and thanks for subscribing too. There are a couple of Magna Elite wagon episodes on the channel too 👍
Very nice. That’s a rare car now. Dad bought a brand new 1982 Sigma SE 2.6 5sp. It was a well made car. We lived in Kalgoorlie then and it handled the red dirt roads very well. He kept it for years. Had 300k I think when he sold it. I learnt to drive in the sigma. Did my license exam in it as an 18 year old.
@markbehr88 For some reason, this car didn't sell well, only being on the US market for just a couple years. To see one today is as rare as hen's teeth
Geez David, Ajax the interior !! You can buy pressure pack tins now to clean that up (since 1979 actually). But the laughing department aside - SCORE !! I really don't mind these. Why? their finish & comfort. The SE models were incredible on the inside - possibly the nicest 4 cylinder car interior - in its class of the time. This is a very nice example out of the Tonsley Park plant South Australia , and trust me, if you took it to a show, it would get some looks these days. Thanks again Mark, and well done David, Fletch :-)
Everyone in my family had a Sigma at one stage. Even the base 1650cc manual. My first car was a cream GE SE sedan but I don't remember an alloy wheel option. I also had a GJ SL wagon with genuine alloys, my first car with a/c!
Those GE SE models were nice cars for their day. Very well equipped and nice ride. I drove quite a few Sigmas when I worked for Mitsubishi. It was the tail end of the run so GJ and Gk, GN. The GK GSR models were good to drive with the 2.6 and the 5 speed. We did a limited run of black ones. They looked terrific.
@@LorraineMichel Very cool. It is hard to place a value. Low end depending upon condition etc is probably $2500. One in good condition I would say $3-4,000. Immaculate, low mileage example maybe $5-7,000. 🤔👍

Thanks Patrick. The GH was the one with the 4 rectangular headlights and the Peter Wherrett special was based on it too. Appreciate the comments.
@@markbehr88 that’s correct. The Peter Wherrett specials weren’t some of them available with a turbo?
@@patrickchim4791 There was a GH turbo as another model but the Wherretts were all 2.with extractors.. 👍

My dad had a 1979 one of those. Here in the US, they were called the Dodge Colt. His was a 4 speed manual. Really needed a 5th gear.
