I think McD's makes a good portion of it's money through real estate (quoting former McDonald’s CFO, Harry J. Sonneborn: “we are not technically in the food business. We are in the real estate business. The only reason we sell fifteen-cent hamburgers is because they are the greatest producer of revenue, from which our tenants can pay us our rent.”)
Same with Marshall going the lifestyle route. Or Gibson. Probably most plubicly traded guitar companies, since endless growth can't be realized by just selling strings, guitars and cases. The super over the top luxury guitar market probably won't make much of a dent there either. But shareholders just want to see the line go up, doesn't really matter to them what is sold as long as it's more than they sold last year. Every year. That's just business reality. And as you said this really isn't a mass market that brings in billions and is growing by like ten percent year over year.
Just take a look at what happened to Gibson in 2018

Exactly! When the product that made you famous is no longer your bread winner, you have to adapt and change or else go the way of the Dodo bird.

Marshall can’t get another amp maker to collab/make amps for them … that’s like a singer getting someone else to sing their record …
They could hire someone to design amps for them - either as an employee or an independent contractor (under an NDA).

I think you skipped the metalfaces / JMPs, too … which were an important phase between the JTM and the 800 …

Fair point. We always need to keep these episodes as short as possible unfortunately.

@@ToneLoungePodcast Umm, your episodes are like 2 hours long … cut out all the fluff, and you’ll have time to cover key points like this one, and still be around the 1 hour mark … people don’t want 2 hour episodes. That what the numbers are trying to tell you ……..

Since you seem to be an expert in that field…why do you think some of our shorter videos are not performing well? Just curious 🧐

The lifestyle brand is only really worth anything because of its association with the music/rock image … If “Marshall” loses that association, then so does their lifestyle products … So they do need to do what he’s saying they’re going to do; though, whether they actually do it or not, is another thing …
They need to lift their amp game, so they can continue selling high-margin, dog-shite earphones to overpaid posers in large numbers …

I realy like your podcast, but it's much too long to vieuw and listen.
Maybe split it in video's, max 1 hour.
To the subject Marshall,i presume the company goes down the drain.
They made too many budget models, that suck on their legacy of the Marshall Rock Amps. They should have sold those amps under the Park brand name. The Marshall should have been purely hand and hardwired amps, very exclusive and more "Custom Shop Amps".
I owned a Marshall 1971 Super Tremelo 100 stack, which original came out of the inventory of Focus Showequipment of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This company was put up, to equipe the shows of the band Focus(with Jan Akkerman).Jan played a Marshall Super Tremelo 100 stack(even he didn't like it's sound and prefered Fender transister amps, like the Fender Capricorn).I researched this amp/stack,to it's history, also asked the question to Marshall, but with very low response from them.
The amp was modified(tremelo out of function and a master volume added),headshell and cabs were recovered with winered carpet texture and came completely covered in aluminium flightcases.
I bought this set around 2000 and picked it up,with my friend Eppie Hotz, former owner of the Rocketdog Studio. He always named it "the Muppetshow Stack".
Years ago,i sold the whole set.

I agree … enjoyed the (on topic) discussion, but too much fluff and twice as long as it should have been.
