This song will never be the same for me. Brave? What did she have to lose from outing Weinstein? She already has FU money from her inherited ownership stake in Nirvana, and film wise she already went as far as she will with award nominations from "The People vs. Larry Flint". As far as Hole, most successful albums "Live Through This" must have had some influence from Kurt, not that he full on wrote the songs but helped Courtney round it out. There is admittedly no direct evidence of this. "Celebrity Skin" Billy Corgan co-wrote five songs that- no one disputes; and although Courtney tried to minimize his contribution, I'm going to have to side with Corgan that's BS. In fact Hole's bassist Melissa Auf der Maur who co-composed five of "Celebrity Skin" songs left the band and joined Corgan in Smashing Pumpkins after. I like Hole's music, and I appreciate Courtney speaking up so publicly when no one else had at that time, but... uh... sorry to rain on your BRAVE and STRONG parade.

"And the sky was amethyst" with that guitar riff at the beginning always brings me back to 8th grade hearing this for the first time and how surprised I was at how great the song is. The 90's was such a defining time for great music in all genres.
@@tenkaraanarchist243 It was one of the songs he wrote. He basically wrote this whole (ha) album. But just because he wrote the lyrics it doesn't take anything away from Love's voice. Dylan Larson me too. I was more into Hole than I was Nirvana. I mean Nirvana kicked ass but she had a way about her and a message and style that resonated with me. Just like doll parts, was one of the first songs I learned on guitar. Then I found drawing and music was my way of dealing with demons from my childhood and figuring out my own sexuality when I was a young kid who didn't even remember losing her virginity because I was so young when I was sexually abused. My earliest memories already consisted of regular abuse, I just normalized it. Sorry if I over shared
First heard this on the long drive to where I was student-teaching at 5 am. Hole just blew me away with their raw power and honesty. My students were shocked because I was older, and dressed like a hippie. Say what you want about Courtney, this whole album just kicks musical ass!
No matter how bad or good Courtney Love is talked about, and I simply don't care either way, this track rocks the whole house, yard, street, city, country, and more! Hands down, this was their (her) best track.
The girl could SCREAM. She was hands down the best female grunge vocalist. The Kurt talk is, as always, fucking stupid and pointless. They were married, of course they influenced each other. like duh.
Me too, literally. Jennifer's Body was written by someone who knew patriarchal toxicity intimately and was written by someone who has been in a physically abusive relationship. I know, because it cuts me to the bone in a very cathartic way. It's a feminist masterpiece in the not over the top feminist camp that simply says: Women should never be subjugated by men.
@@DK-zu6tt Agreed, but the opposite is also true - this from a man that was repeatedly sexually abused by women as I was underaged. A total of 6 different women. They are also abusers.
I played this loud on a Bluetooth speaker in the park , late at night one hot summer night. Had about 20 strangers gather around and sit down , listening to it. Couple of the women were crying . Few of the lads too. Epic epic epic song. So glad I grew up in that era and got to see Courtney and Kurt live multiple times before he ended his life.
Even being a man, this song is relatable. Getting myself out of a physically and mentally abusive relationship was the hardest challenge I've ever faced. Sometimes you cry yourself to sleep, cant eat, etc. The feeling of being used is something that really doesn't go away. This song helped me build that courage and hopefully helps anyone else going through this.
didn't you know? men can't be abused. women are all delicate, fragile butterflies that couldn't open a jar of pickles without a man's assistance. how could they possible physically assault or mentally abuse a man? everyone says they're so mature, so I know it's physically impossible for any of them to be a horrible human being, let alone an abuser. all the females in the comment section will definitely let you know how wrong you are to accuse a female of being the abuser. according to them you're either lying or you're remembering it wrong, and you actually abused her.
Feel you bro. I’m gay and only discovered this album in 2016. I played the fuck out of it for the next 2 years. Another great song is “Hit So Hard” it’s also about abuse.

That lyric sadly reminds me of Marilyn Monroe. The crypt she is buried in the first husband, who, abused her has the one below her, and Hugh Hefner has the one above her. Both men who took advantage of her and abused her in their own ways. It’s disgusting that that was allowed to happen. Marilyn Monroe should have a grave in a beautiful field somewhere with wildflowers, growing not flanked above, and below by horny men who used her for the way she looked to make themselves famous.
I can see how Kurt loved Courtney, she is like a mirror image to him in terms of looks and personality, zany and eccentric.Plus they both came from difficult family backgrounds.
I started to play the guitar and make my own music in 1994. I was extremely influenced and motivated by Hole. I still seek music like this but haven’t found anything that compares. I loved the subject matter and undertones of feminist themes and/or just a woman’s point of view. And not the everything is wonderful, saccharine kind of music you usually hear from women who’s main goal is to be liked & for their music to be popular. I want more of this. I want to hear real and raw & the authenticity of pain. I want to hear women who yell and aren’t afraid to not sound “pretty”. Authentic emotion you can relate to is the most beautiful sound you will ever hear.

God the way Courtney sings these lyrics... this is exactly what rock is supposed to be. Raw, emotional, intense, and meaningful! This song, it's lyrics, the way Courtney sings, the beat, and the guitar, they all come together to make this banger come to life, and take it's place as an iconic, and historical rock song. Just a straight up iconic, great, and historical rock song, that needs no other qualifiers!
I played this at my funeral and I decided to play this song, this is the most peaceful, most beautiful, touching at times, of art in music. Words cannot explain how good this music is. My brother used to sing this into his sleep and he likes this song.

Love or hate her, this album is stellar from beginning to end. If Courtney wasn’t married to Kurt, I feel she wouldn’t have gotten so much hate in the 90s. Glad I was able to see the band perform multiple times in that decade.
She trapped Kurt
people wouldve hated her for something else if it wasnt for that, she was (is) just kind of out of control as a person unfortunately. but some of the best rock artists arent the best people, take billy corgan for instance or even elvis if you wanna go way back
@@celsustruth8202 he trapped himself by using heroin and marrying someone that clearly wasnt good for him, he deserved better though, especially if courtney really killed him
Her involvement with Kurt wasn't the only thing people hated her for. She had multiple feuds with musicians who didn't really do anything to her, and her behavior across the decades speaks for itself.
Conspiracy theories are powerful.
This song will never be the same for me. It always floods back memories of being a 14 yr old full of teenage angst but recently, about 4 wks ago, I was on my bike leaving my friends house singing along to this at the top of my lungs and I look back and see my friend Oneda giving me that look like, " girl you're crazy" .
A week or two later I'm watching her die in the middle of the hwy where she got struck by a car walking across the Rd to the store. Makes my heart ache. Rest in Peace Oneda. I love you.

She was so right about Weinstein, and she was brave and one of the first. People that speak the truth are always persecuted.
@QTee @QTee Don't ruin the moment...
@Alter Ami Courtney Love doesn't get the credit she deserves.
@QTee unfortunately that is because too many women lie.
Courtney Love never lied. You can hear it in her music.

I keep coming back to this incredible music video. The more I watch the more I notice - there’s so much symbolism and thought into it.

They were married, of course they influenced each other. like duh.
One of my favorite songs from this time period. It's magnificent.
i know she is a very controversial character but this album has helped me through so much man
Me too, literally.
Same album was great Courtney eh it's best to speakers her as a person from the music
No you didn’t lmao
Even being a man, this song is relatable. Getting myself out of a physically and mentally abusive relationship was the hardest challenge I've ever faced. Sometimes you cry yourself to sleep, cant eat, etc. The feeling of being used is something that really doesn't go away. This song helped me build that courage and hopefully helps anyone else going through this.
You are so strong ❤️
didn't you know? men can't be abused. women are all delicate, fragile butterflies that couldn't open a jar of pickles without a man's assistance. how could they possible physically assault or mentally abuse a man? everyone says they're so mature, so I know it's physically impossible for any of them to be a horrible human being, let alone an abuser.
all the females in the comment section will definitely let you know how wrong you are to accuse a female of being the abuser. according to them you're either lying or you're remembering it wrong, and you actually abused her.
equality for men!!

That lyric sadly reminds me of Marilyn Monroe. The crypt she is buried in the first husband, who, abused her has the one below her, and Hugh Hefner has the one above her.

This song, it's lyrics, the way Courtney sings, the beat, and the guitar, they all come together to make this banger come to life, and take it's place as an iconic, and historical rock song.
