I had three. If you ever own one, be careful, the genetic predisposition that causes the hairless condition and lack of teeth, causes them to be predisposed to pancreatitis. The pancreas fails and they crash within a few hours, they seem lethargic, wont eat, then within a few hours, gone. My dogs were hand raised, abandoned by a ruthless breeder, he left them behind when his home was foreclosed. The vet said all three, were 24 hours from death. Sun burnt, dehydrated, sunken eyes. We bottle fed them every two hours for weeks, then every few hours for several more weeks, then soft food. I have never felt such a bond with an animal in my life, they were bonded to us and loved us. Bella, Toby and Bruiser were like my children and were so very special. Bella had a gift, she could sense when a dog was ill when they showed no medical signs. We became fosters for dogs after rescuing these three, because of the affect they had on us. Bella would lick the inside mouth area of the dog if they were sick and she would whine and cry while doing it, as if to tell us, something was wrong. The first dog she did it to, died of a ruptured tumour that had just had a full exam and was deemed healthy. The next dog was diagnosed with seizures. The next dog had an unknown heart condition, that would cause sudden heart failure. And the last dog had a brain tumour. We had several dogs go thru our home, more than 20 and Bella alerted us to the medical issues before they were even diagnosed, all the dogs she did NOT do that to, lived long, healthy lives. These dogs are so incredible, I cannot adopt again, they are so amazing that I cant experience losing them again in just 8 short years.
I have one! She was featured on our local news after having a puppy mill closed for deplorable conditions. She had been caged and bred every cycle for over 10yrs! It broke my heart and I knew she NEEDED me. I have had her for almost 2 years and it has taken almost every bit of that time for her to trust us and love us. I adore her and love her to pieces! She is super sweet and very loyal and close to me...she knows I saved her.
IsntItButter curious you say that! the Mexican standard for xoloitzcuintle literally says that to consider pedigree register the dog must have bat ears
Fun fact (if you don't know): These dogs were actually used a heat pack during cold nights. Higher classed peoples took them into their beds and hugged them for the heat due to their hairlessness. :D
Xolos (shh o los ) are an old breed. They used to kicked it with the Aztecs. The Aztecs would dine on them for special ceremonies and medicinal purposes..
Que hermoso perro orgullosamente la mascota de nuestro campeon equipo xolos de Tijuana What a beutiful dog our pride to be Our champion Team Tijuana xolos mascot
Hi, glad you can see the beauty in hairless dogs too...I don't feed them anything too special, they'll eat almost anything, they really like carrots as a treat!

Hi... some people say they are ugly, but like you i think they are adorable and very nice dogs.... that you feed them? greetings from mexico city!! (the chupacabra was ugly and corrupt man called Carlos Salinas de Gortari) lol
these dogs are being killed because some ignorant people think they are chupacabras. deny ignorance and please help stop the killings. these are only dogs, men's best friend.
@Schips4Me The ones with white spots or really light skin can get sunburned, but most of them will try to lick off any sort of lotion...I try to keep a tee-shirt on my light Chinese Crested to keep the sun off him; he is old and has had some skin cancers surgically removed.
@kaosu666 somewhat...these dogs have been around for centuries, so there is a lot of variation, but redheads are common (in an uncommon breed). Thanks for saying she is gorgeous, most people think they are ugly:(
@MrShockFish they are very clever, I say, "you don't train them, they train you":) They can get cancer, but they also can live for a long time. My friends xolo just died and it was 16 yrs old...
Hi, I love my hairless dogs and think they are the greatest...they can have issues such as: rashes, pimples, white spots that will sunburn, maybe future "mole" or tumor removals...but each is different, some don't have very many health problems at all.
I have 3 of them 2 of them have hair and the other has only hair on her head. The toy version of ours only has 3 legs. The medium one has no problems. And we just got a hairless and it feels like a leather couch but what I have for question is it petting or rubbing the hairless ones
Aww He's soooooo cute I can't believe stupid people think these cute Xolos are chupacabras ! My Shih Tzu has a Mohawk like the one but he's not hairless :D
My boy has half the teeth a dog should have and his tongue always sticks out the side side of his mouth. He's at least half xolo, but I think he's also part terrier.
Brussels Griffon now that's a silly looking dog (just kidding, they're cute)...not many people have seen the large hairless...most people say "I thought they were small..."
Thanks for the video :) I think they are adorable. We've been considering introducing a xolo into our family. I've heard you need to take extra care of their skin and that some suffer from skin problems. Have you had any issues with this?
I take my big one on hikes often, she loves adventures. The lighter colored ones, or ones with white spots, can get sunburned, just like fair skinned people. I use sunscreen on mine when we go out on long hikes.
I think my climate would be to cold for a dog like this. I'm Scandinavian. It would be like me walking outside naked in the middle of the winter... 😨😨😨 I know there are "dog clothes" to keep them warm, but still....

Very cute, wouldn't think twice if someone offered one that needed a home.
It's so cute! I want to hug him/her.
I love the one with the orange mohawk that one is cool.
Xolo's are weirdly adorable! Really cute faces.
A xolo taking a bath voluntarily! Now I have seen everything :) My Vito is deadly afraid of water and hates getting wet ;)
They're like fruit bat dogs :3
i was just about to say that
IsntItButter curious you say that! the Mexican standard for xoloitzcuintle literally says that to consider pedigree register the dog must have bat ears
I have two. Go xolos!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I like the way these dogs look, they look so unique.
Saw this breed on the Purina Dog Show this past Thanksgiving, and I think I have fallen in love! They look like the world's sweetest dogs!
He looks so cool! He is big, I thought they were all like a bit bigger than a "big" chihuahua. He is so handsome.
This breed is one of a kind Xoloitzcuintle From Mexico unique indeed I wanna get one
Fun fact (if you don't know): These dogs were actually used a heat pack during cold nights. Higher classed peoples took them into their beds and hugged them for the heat due to their hairlessness. :D
