I have the original one on PS4 in my backlog, and while the new visuals look interesting, it sounds like this isn't so much a remake as a reimagining that trimmed a lot of content and context. It legit sounds like the best thing to do is to play through the original and then come back to play this one. I'll probably end up getting it when it's on sale at some point.
Always enjoy hearing your opinion on games, as they are well thought out and explained. Thank you for all the great videos, and see you for the next one.
Thank you so much for clarifying what the differences are between the 2 versions. MMX - Turn based RPG and story driven MMXR - Action RPG, sandbox, bare bones Story. Glad I have the original. Still gotta open and play it, smh #BacklogChronicles
Metal Max is a series I'd like to get into, but I'll probably grab the original version. Though this is funny as yet another updated PS4 game ... on PS4 xD
I did notice that lol I guess cause it is different they wanted PS4 players who played the original to be able to play it too (in that sense maybe it’s good it’s a little different lol), but yeah. Not a move you see often lol
Yeah definitely. Unless it was marketed as something more free and for people who had played (which it doesn’t seem to be in the West or Japan), it’s an odd move, no matter how people felt about the quality of that original story :3
Well i actually went blind with the first metal max xeno, i enjoyed but was disappointed cuz the last boss was so hard to beat! But that game was story/mission based so we had a goal everytime. So i'm kinda afraid of the reborn version since you said it lacks story, and goals. I often dislike when i'm thrown away in a big map without goals. I'll wait another review or just buy it and make my own thought. But i don't want to spend that much atm, so i'll wait a sale.
Yeah, that feeling of being thrown onto a big map without goals is pretty much what I felt, especially when I missed the turn-off to start the story twice lol the first one sounds much more like what I was hoping for :3 If you do buy Reborn, I hope you enjoy it in any case :)) I get the feeling those who played the original will enjoy it a little more :3
I'm going to try it, though likely at a discounted price. I'll be buying it on my Switch so it's going to be a little rough. I watched an early impressions video from someone else & the lack of story is puzzling especially as the scenes are already there in the original (granted they look a little different due to cell-shading & older art), a little extra effort & they could've just slapped the new art & models in place of the originals.
Oh boy, I'm really glad I saw this video - I'm not interested in a jrpg that is stripped of its story. I mean, even SMT V had some story for its apocalyptic Tokyo. It's a shame because some of the screenshots I saw looked a little cool with cyberpunk outfits.
Depends how you feel about story I guess? There’s seemingly less in this version than the original, so if it was one of the reasons you wanted to try it, I’d try the original :3 can always play this version later!
Oooph, that's going to be a hard pass from me. I don't necessarily mind a "throw-you-in-a-sandbox" game but I usually would prefer a lot of context/drama/story to my adventuring. So if they stripped the story, (probably to save on localization?) then I have waaaay more games that you've recommended to get to first.
IMO, if you enjoy countless hours spent on hunting outlaws, tinkering your vehicles, fighting absurd enemies, and leveling up in Metal Saga on PS2, then this game is for you. If not, then you'll just have to wait, or complete any unfinished JRPG in your collection.
The art used for the characters for the Metal Max Xeno PS4/Psvita version are unlocked by clearing the game which I think it's pointless. They should had offered the option via DLC at least since that art is better than Reborn version.

I started the original and then never finished it due to many things, none of which was not enjoying it lol
Thank you, I was looking into this yesterday and was thinking of skipping it. You confirmed my choice 🙂.

@@JRPGJungle I do wonder what the idea of removing content was supposed to accomplish. It feels like they should have just made it a different game

@@JRPGJungle can u still buy the original?
@@neoandroid8586 if you look on a site like eBay you could probably still fibd the original. No idea about in store locations though.
I got an ad for the game... On a video reviewing the same game.

Golden Week sale it is.
Yeah nah I might give this a miss, just not my thing but I still liked hearing your take on it.

Another Nostalgia Hype kind of title.
Just wondering if this is worth getting since I got the original on sale right before they announced this remake and never even played it yet...

So this is mostly similar but without story? Well, that's a positive to me.
The original version was delisted, but we can at least play the PS Vita version in English with a jailbroken system.
Do the changed character art looks werid or out or place?
I didn’t think so; I didn’t realize they were changed until I looked into the game after playing :3
@@JRPGJungle i see. Still the game looks fun. Maybe wait for sale. Too many games upcoming: A.I. 2, xenoblade 3, digimon survive 😅

No story no buy for me tbh
They took out the story? Oof
That worse😅🤣
This looks like it could have been a poor attempt at making a video game out of "Cagaster of an Insect Cage"
Jrpg with the terrible modern storytelling cut out? Sold.
I just wish they hadn't changed the graphics, the graphical style of the original version looks WAY better than this new version..
