Metal Max Returns for the Super Famicom was the first fan translated game I ever completed. I've been fascinated by this series ever since. Metal Max 3 and 2 Reloaded for the DS also have fan translations.
I love the original version, picked it up off the psn store for cheap awhile back. Was kind of excited to see it coming to switch with a slight remaster, it's nothing groundbreaking but still has a nice charm to it and a better portable experience than the vita.
Thanks boys! I never appreciated turn based games my whole life. Maybe pokemon (was a gen 1 kid) - Now at age 33 i cant get enough of them. Laid back, slow and steady. But! Also strategic, in some cases you have to use your brain for builds and fighting order. But most of all, where the joy comes in , is, that most turn based games are story driven! Have a great day!
@@crestfallenwarrior6996 I recommend a turn based card battle hybrid called SteamWorld Hand of the Gilgamech or Child of Light . If you own a 3ds I can mod them or I sometimes sell modded 2ds XL.
This seeing a western release gives me hope that the spinoff title "Metal Dogs" will as well. How could you go wrong with a twin-stick shooter where you control dogs that have rocket launchers and guns on their backs?
Thanks for this review I was immediately interested when I saw this on your up coming video I don't care for the dated game mechanics actually I kind of like them Shame for the bits that are missing translation thought I think I'll pick the physical once they patch it
I was worried about this game, some early articles mentioned that the game would only allow you to use one tank in battle. Glad to see they were wrong. I played Xeno on the PS4 and the balance would be completely be broken if you're only allowed one tank. One bit of balance I'd like to see addressed is with the L'il Slugger/L'il Blaster tank. It was the nicest looking tank you could get IMHO but it was the worst tank with few options to change and its weapons all had limited ammo and were underpowered. Devolving it back to a Maus tank frame was actually an improvement. Regardless looks like I'll get this. I love the Metal Max/Saga franchise and gotta support for the future.
For a yesteryear game that price point is way too high. It's not for me, but that's more a reflection of my disinterest in that genre tbh. Thanks for the review. Immaculate as always!
I agree, reminds me of when they released Dark Alliance 1 again! Price is way too high for a game that came out many gens ago and has nothing new enough to really deserve anything higher then what KOTOR 2 is selling at (seriously that price for both games is a good price! and not even charging for the restore content mod at that! I'm guessing the justification is the Switch and PS4 are the same gen so it's a port so to speak, even though I agree with you, especially since the Switch might as well be in the same gen as PS5 and the X! Then it was with the PS4 and One!)
More hype for this than the original Xeno, I prefer the whole "what's going on?" And having to find out the story/lore myself rather than it be spoon fed to me. The older Metal Max games were more like that
This game looks fun. Something that maybe you guys could incorporate into your reviews, a “fun factor”. Just a suggestion. I see where this games looks bland in some regards but I also see where it could be fun to play. Similar to EDF titles that have all sorts of weird quirks and issues, but they are a blast to play. Keep up the good work.
The combat is much better now it's basically FFXII, I couldn't care less about the story portions removed it was mid as hell anyway, fan service can go to hell for all I care too, the bigger emphasis on customizing the tanks and the much more open ended experience is what makes this series so different compared to every other JRPG out there.
I was interested in this game but came out wrong time. To much out next few months for myself. Will hopefully be able to get it physically in the future.
Dev 1: Guys, we have an issue. Games nowadays are too unrealistic, the heroes go and fight with swords (swords!) against giant monsters. We gotta fix this! Dev 2: You are right, they need tanks. Lots of thanks.
Ayyyy, to no surprise I search for Metal Max and you fellas deliver. Stellar review. Love this series; imported the Vita version way back when. Always loved the funky genre mashup. *Edit: Big props to Azdin as well. Been crushing these reviews!
I guess there aren‘t any difficulty adjusting options? Some people saying the difficulty spike can be brutal. Like the Genre but difficulty spikes in japanese videogames are a long, sad story. By the way, the sequel was officially cancelled today by Kadokawa. This Remaster might be the last we see from the Franchise.
Large chunks of story was removed, all sexual dialogue from the original was removed, 2 CG's are removed, and apparently the superior original artwork has to be unlocked by beating the game. Hard pass.
This looks super interesting but I'm still unsure, I shall have to look it up a bit more. To those who say switch doesn't have any games, why is it my wallet keeps going empty, no thanks to SwitchUp!
Lol I got into this game on ps4. It took so long to get my first ally lol. Granted I started yesterday... That buggy was epic until I got my third tank. I got the perk that shoots all cannon now I just need the se one and I'll be golden lol. But yeah it was a learning curve. I am still having difficulties but I did replace my buggy with my fourth tank I found randomly. I just wish you could get more tanks like picking them up from enemies and weapons and chips too and use up to 5 allies w dog lol. I will admit though epic game.
IMO a big misstep is they took the story (and other content) from the original release and just chopped big chunks out of it without replacing it with anything new or better. Almost all the character interactions are just gone, scenes missing with no replacement etc. There's even less enemies etc. So instead of improving on the original, you just get a disjointed cliff notes version that makes it worse, and the original wasn't exactly great. If they were gonna reimagine it, it wouldve made more sense to more completely remake the leftover plot stuff to work better with the new framework instead of just doing whatever this was. This whole project screams "budget project that ran out of money." Hope it was worth it, since this may have sunk the franchise based on the cancellation of the follow up.
It’s a good game but you make valid points. Apparently they were working on a sequel that recently got cancelled. It’s a shame, as with the right team, budget and time, I would love to see a next Gen version of this.

Looks like Tails is finally getting out from under Sonic’s shadow lol (poking fun at your misspelling)

Too bad it’s turn based but I’d give it a try.
... a remake of a 4 year old Vita/PS4 game is ”showing it's age”?
Who would have thought!
I don't know how to explain it, but from the video it looks...flat.
Unless you're nostalgic for this game, it honestly doesn't look like it's worth more than £5 (imo).
