- As much as I liked the Coronation music in Victoria, I prefer the historically accurate Zadok the Priest. I've edited out the Lady Flora scenes but unfortunately I couldn't use the whole 5 minutes of the song because the Coronation scenes are so short!
Hope you enjoy. Song: Zadok the Priest, composed by George Frideric Handel in 1727 for the Coronation of King George II.
Magical. Nothing can beat Handel's Coronation Anthem at moments like this!
And glad it was played at Charles III anointing. I think everything was perfectly timed with the hand woven screens coming out when the song started and then departed at the end of the song with Charles on his knees before the High Altar.
it's heavenly and totally out of this world!
there aren't any words in the english language to describe the beauty of this anthem!!!!!!

Wonderful hymn. The symbolism is amazing. The scepter meaning right to rule, the orb represents Christs sovereignty over the entire globe. :)
The white gown, the Colobium Sindonis (the shroud tunic) to symbolise divesting oneself of all earthly vanity and standing bare before God.
Come on, it's a magic hat. Grow up
@@julianskinner3697That crown is older than you. So don’t say grow up.
I absolutely love this piece. The editing is just right for Handel's "Zadok the Priest." I had no intention of watching the series here in he USA but I just happened to catch the first minutes of the series where the two gentlemen come in and bow and address her as "your majesty," I was hooked. A very sheltered girl, a teenager, had just become the most powerful and richest woman on the planet. Thank you and Masterpiece Theater for adding to my understanding and appreciation of this period of British history.
Wasnt victoria is her early 29s when she became queen?
Victoria wasn't only the most powerful woman on the planet, she is probably amongst the most powerful people to have so far lived, she ruled the largest empire ever to exist at it's height.
+Jem Colo She was 18
@@jemcolo5778No. She was 18.
@@blazednlovinit As us her predecessor Queen Elizabeth the first and her eventual successor her great great granddaughter Queen Elizabeth ii.
We make some badass women in these wee isles.
Many people don’t realize that this is considered the traditional hymn the monarch leaves Westminster Abbey too after being crowned. It was used during Victoria’s crowning.
I thought it was played during the anointing?
Incorrect. It's supposed to be played during the anointing, as it was for Charles III. For Elizabeth II, they played it before her anointing. Apparently it was a disaster when it was introduced at George I's coronation - and played completely at a different time in the service from whence it was supposed to be played. But Handel specifically composed this piece for the anointing. All one has to do to realize this is consider the simple lyrics: "Zadok the Priest and Nathan the Prophet Anointed Solomon King. And all the people rejoiced and said, "God Save the King. Long Live The King, May the King Live Forever. Alleluia, Amen!" As the monarch leaves the Abbey, it's traditional to play the two stanzas of the national anthem "God Save the King" after trumpet flourishes. Then after that, other music as needed for the monarch(s) to exit.
When Victoria became Queen of England at 18 years of age, she became the most powerful human being on the face of planet Earth.
Think about that for a moment.
VALHALLAXE Hardly,at the time Britain was still a constitutional monarchy, she had little to no power.

I believe Queen Elizabeth II's recent suspending of Parliament proves me correct.
A King or Queen, included, wields enormous power including declaring war, imprisoning whoever he or she sees fit.
It is no mere figurehead appointment.
@@PhilipReeder It would be fair to say that Queen Victoria became nominally the most powerful person on the planet. Even though power was exercised by her ministers, the source of all power was the monarch, and the source of her power was God.
On June 20th 1837, she became the Queen Of the United Kingdom Of Great Britain & Ireland. Then on May 1st 1876, she adopted the additional title of Empress Of India.
* UK, not just england
This song was played again on May 6th, 2023, on the coronation of Queen Victoria's great-great-great-grandson, HM King Charles III. #GodSaveTheKing
surely the most stunning & emotive orchestral introduction ever written.
anyone else notice that the Crown wobbled at first?
It was too big for her head because she was so tiny. :)
heavy is the head that wears the Crown
Well done, Tim.
according her mother her head is too small for the crown
done intentionally I'm sure. I know earlier in the episode she mentions the crown is too big for her. It was a great scene when the crown wobbled slightly....I thought. It is a theme in her life. So many people told her she was too small and inexperienced....almost constantly reminding her about that. So I think metaphorically and actually this is a great scene.
A tearjerker. Our dearly beloved Queen cannot live forever. It will be the saddest day of all days...
Don't fret my dear. You'll have Camilla.
Embrace the King that lives forever
Probably the ugliest woman ever to mount a European throne. This video is overly optimistic.

Glad you enjoyed.
Traditional and glorious church music.
I agree. I was looking forward to hearing Zadok the Priest. Accurate and every bit as beautiful as the series music.
If Hanover in Germany allowed women on the throne, Queen Victoria would have been Queen of both the United Kingdom and Hanover. Instead, Salic Law did not allow her to succeed to the thrones of both kingdoms. So, Victoria became the Queen of the United Kingdom, and her uncle, the Duke of Cumberland, Ernest Augustus (the fifth son of George III) became King of Hanover. If Salic Law had been changed, Victoria would have been named Queen of Hanover.
Not that it mattered too much as the Hanover Monarchy was abolished in 1871 with the creation of the German Empire governed by the Prussian Monarchy. Her oldest daughter married into that line, so her oldest grandchild was the famed Kaiser (Emperor) Wilhelm II.
@@janefelix3821 I've read that King Edward VII and the Kaiser were the only ones present when Queen Victoria passed away
You're so right to edit out the Lady Flora scenes as that particular incident didn't happen until about a year later. I was dismayed at the coronation scenes in this film, as you say, they are so short! The Queen would have walked down the isle to the theme of ' I Was Glad' probably in this case composed by Thomas Attwood. That said, he died shortly before Victoria's Coronation. I have found Attwood's composition for William the IV's coronation, but I'm not sure if the same version was used for Victoria's Coronation. I am putting a version into my Sibelius program so hope to come up with it later.
just for the curious: "Zadok the Priest" is used during anointment; the music for the majestic entry would have been "I was glad"
i must correct myelf: "i was glad " was just not available for her coronation, Parry composed it in 1902 or so.
@@rivenoak Didn't Cream do a cover of "I was glad?"
And for "God Save The King/Queen" is played during the dismissal/exit, as seen in King Charles' coronation

Wrong crown at the moment of coronation, st Edwards crown is used
It is St. Edward crown
It wasn't for Queen Victoria. It was considered too heavy for her, so the Imperial State Crown was made for her. It was also used for King Edward VII as he had been ill prior to his coronation. So ill that the ceremony was postponed.
The crown pictured here is the Imperial state Crown.
that was fantastic thanks! I am waiting until I get the DVD AND we see it here in the States
Glad you enjoyed it. You'll love the show, its fantastic :)
for obvious reasons you should be able to hear it live soon-ish.
This and the coronation of Elizabeth on The Crown are utterly amazing and awe-inspiring, but watching Charles being crowned in real time really made me think it's a more ...... ponderous process.
They should have done it how it really happened even after reading about i can't believe all the thibgs that webt wrong about it.

This is what should have been playing in the show. But they placed the wrong crown on Victoria

And to think this will happen with Charles on the 6th may 2023 😮
Rather surprised to see sir John Conroy at the Coronation (He was with the Duchess of Kent). Victoria hated him.

Lord M....his smile tells it all.
Why this was not played in the original scene is a crime and would be historically accurate.
Agreed. They should've been more accurate and put the correct music in when they filmed the scenes. Especially because we KNOW the correct music to be played at Victoria's anointing, and it would have made it in common with ALL OTHER anointings since George II. Though it wasn't quite accurate either, I really like how they handled and scored Elizabeth II's anointing in "The Crown". Esp. when the Duke of Windsor said "... and what do you have? A goddess..!" behind Zadok the Priest...
I guess it really pays to be one of the doctors companions

I think they may have shown an obscure historical detail accurately: the archbishop wrenched the coronation ring onto her finger. It apparently hurt badly when she pulled it off to have it resized.
Which version of Zadok the Priest did you use?
she would have been an incredible person to meet...
I am so looking forward to season 2!!
예쁘다!
On 1:06 the Archbishop puted the coronation ring on the wrong finger
Poor Rider He put it on the wrong finger and in her diary The Queen wrote that the first thing she did on getting back to the palace was soak her fingers in cold water to get the ring off. Then she gave her dog a bath.
the same archbishop also put her wedding ring on the wrong finger in that ceremony
I see something like this everytime I see my wife
Victoria Coronation looked very short i mean there were members of the public outside westminster abbey but not inside like there was on the Coronation of the late Quenn Elizabeth 2nd and the Coronation of king charles 3 and queen Camilla which we had on the 6th may 2023 last year.

Pretty historically inaccurate. Monarchs are always crowned with St Edwards Crown not the Imperial State Crown and Zadok the Priest is played during the anointing not the crowning.
But Queen Victoria WAS historically CROWNED with the IMPERIAL STATE CROWN as the st Edwards Crown was deemed too heavy for the 18 year old new Queen
Sadly they didn't recreate all the thing that went wrong in the coronation, like the Bishop putting the ring in the wrong finger, the people fighting over medals and I think a very important duke fell from some stairs
So true. Her coronation was a dumpster fire! Drunk and inept bishops and lords. The oil was nasty, she was cold - and the ring debacle almost cost her a finger! 😮
😂 A very important duke fell from some stars haha ? Who would that be then ?
Did the TV series show all the mishap That happened on the day as it was not orangise well and was not rehearsed, not like kings Charles iii did

Hi where can one watch this? Thank you
They played this same song at Charles' coronation.
It's been played at every British coronation since George II in 1727.
In what moment the Royal House change its name?
What’s the movie name?
It was a television series just called "Victoria".
I'm curious why wasn't this series continued I think it aired for only 2 or 3 years in the United States
Yes, it was disappointing that it was stopped seemingly randomly and without bringing it to a close.
@@anyaw340 yes it was disappointing 😕
Isn't Zadok the Priest supposed to be played after the Queen is crowned rather than before ?
nope, it's played before the monarch is anointed with holy oil, which happens before they are crowned
Reminds me of Champions League ...
That's because that song was based on the coronation theme
You have it the wrong way around my friend.
Anyone noticed she is crowned with the wrong crown?
Actually, every English (British after 1707) Monarch from the coronation of William and Mary in 1689 until the coronation of King George V in 1911 used either the George I Crown, the George IV Crown, or the 1838 Imperial State Crown (which Queen Victoria and King-Emperor Edward VII, due to his slow recovery from acute appendicitis, was crowned with). The 1838 Imperial State Crown would be replaced with the current version in 1937. In all cases, it was due to the weight of the St. Edward's Crown: that crown weighs nearly 5 pounds, while the Imperial State Crown is half the weight (2.5 pounds).
1:33 por que mueve asi la cabeza la corona es pesada?
Maggie Hola Pues al principio, le hacen la burla que la corona Es muy grande para su cabeza. Por que Ella es Chica de tamaño. Y la corona se mueve por que Es como una metáfora.

isn't this the music of Victoria 2?

REally a pity they did not use Zadok et Priest in the serie indeed... And funny they sometimes use it in other films or series for "coronations" when the musidc did not even exist, the composer was not even born (for instance it was used in the sie Borgia, the one with Jeremy Irons as pope Alexander VI).
it starts like the champions league anthem

Why do all these movies that show the crowning of the British Monarch use copies of the Imperial State Crown, when in reality, it is the Crown of St. Edward that is used at thr coronation.
SLACKPLAN9 The St Edward's crown was considered too heavy for her, so the Imperial State Crown was made instead. Actually between William III and George V no monarchs were crowned using it. They all had different state crowns made. I suppose the weight is off putting.
