  • Here is Winstanley Hall near Wigan, an abandoned derelict Tudor estate built in the 1500s. In parts of this place it was wrecked with other parts not so bad. I can only imagine what it was like, it must of been a very grand place and a very far cry away from what it is nowadays. There was three sections of it built in different years and that could be seen in different stages of disrepair as I went round. I feel it would be a good to visit after autumn has been so more of the buildings can be seen from behind the leafy foliage. I found the following article which is a short summary of the estate and I have added a link to it..
Winstanley Hall is listed Grade II* and the H-shaped core of the current building dates back to the late 1590s. It was altered in 1780 and 1819 (the latter by Lewis Wyatt) and thereafter on several occasions in the later 19th and 20th centuries.
The Tithe Barn, Coach House and Stable, with attached gateways, constitute a courtyard to the east of the Hall and are listed Grade II*. The Barn dates from the early 17th century, whereas the stables and coach house date from the 1830s. The octagonal Neptune Fountain in the Courtyard is listed Grade II and was introduced in the 1830s. The Estate Office and Cottage lie to the north of the Hall and are listed Grade II.
The buildings lie in a overgrown but previously landscaped park which is not explicitly protected but has a close association with the Hall and Estate Buildings.

@@mrblue4233 ..we parked on the motorway bridge and over the wall through the woods following the hedge rows in the field along the motorway and into the woods again. It seems a bit of a trek but worth it, and then through them woods and it's all good 👍 If you do choose this way then be prepared for soggy feet ! ..And didn't see anyone all afternoon which was good, came out a different way along a track coming out over a gate to the main road.
