  • At a certain point, to increase your shooting speed while maintaining accuracy, shooters need to learn how to be target focused.
It can be difficult for many to do because it's common for shooters to learn how to shoot with a crystal clear front sight.
This video shares a simple exercise that can help you transition to a more target-focused shooter.

Make sense. Target focus is a different discipline. It’s a great exercise and something to start training. If your in a real world situation you won’t be using target focus or if you do, it would probably cause you to miss. There are a lot of variables and movement. I started today actually and did what you said. I actually shot better than I thought I would, but it’s definitely different. I am still using iron sites for the moment. I am looking forward to doing this when I get my Red Dot. Thanks for explaining how to make the transition!

In a "real world situation" you'll find being target focused is way more common than front sight focused.

Would you use this drill to introduce target focus leading into front occluded shooting? I’ve started shooters of with occluded shooting to emphasize target focus but shooters struggle with it overall especially those with sting eye dominance.

After some slow is smooth, smooth is fast training, I can now kinda focus on both the target and the site. They are superimposed.

Your target focus technique is especially useful if you're an old geezer like me because your sights are always a blur.

has this method not resulted in higher shot placement or vertical stringing for farther distanced targets say 20 yards?

Front sight focus never made sense to me. I've always focused on the target. Shooting a blurry target is asking for trouble. Shooting a blurry moving target even more so. So much can change in a second. Imagine explaining to a jury that you weren't focused on the target. Yikes!

I always felt the same. I hear ppl make the argument it’s good for beginners to be sight focused to align sites and such but do that in dry fire and build the muscle memory there with punching the gun out and getting good sight alignment. But I always went with target focus. Especially once your beyond like 5 yards. Like how can you be actively engaged in precise shot placement when the thing you are shooting is blurry. Maybe I just never heard it explained to me in a way that made sense so I’d welcome someone to explain why/when front sight focus is important aside from just getting good sight alignment.

Any chance of point shooting demonstration?
Breaking the shot at an acceptable level of accuracy / 🎯 vs sight picture focus?

Depends on the size and distance. Shooting a bullseye at 25 yards, target focus is just not going to cut it. Up close, sure

Wish you would have showed us the results after every 2 shots. Not that it’s important to see if you are a great shooter (which you are) but so we can see the difference between the 2 points of focus.

  • @jamesriggs6210
    @jamesriggs6210 Год назад

Think of your front sight as kind of a shotgun bead, then adjust 6 o'clock hold or CoM as the distance requires. If your running XS Sights then this analogy will be really obvious. Stay safe!

idk how anyone hits a target using just sight focus with both eyes open. If you are an amatuer and close one eye it makes sight focus doable but in real life closing an eye to shoot is a bad move especially in an active situation. target focus is the only way to keep situational awareness

Never understood the concept of focusing on the front sight... every video on this tells the same. Focus on the front sight. But I want to see what I'm shooting at.
Ditch Iron sights and go for the dot...

what if i told you both eyes open, both front sight and target in focus, takes (tens) thousands of hours to train your eyes and brain but it can be done. have both speed and combat accuracy (eg center thoracic or center head). of course, only john wick or frank castle would invest the time/energy/resources to do something like that because it's their occupation.
(true (no rush) marksman accuracy is always front sight focus with one eye open).

I absolutely focus on the red dot, EXACTLY like a focusing on the front sight. Somehow that's wrong? I really don't care, it works for me. Target focus absolutely causes misses for me and being old with failing eye sight, every handgun I own has a optic sight and I shoot a ton. I don't golf or fish or any other stupid hobby, I just shoot. Focus on the red dot!!!!!!

Awesome now occlude the red dot by putting a piece of tape on the front and start shooting the way the red dot was meant to be shot.
