    What could happen to the engine if I fit a tuning box? Will it overwork other parts of the engine? Are there any negative effects to other parts of the car? I'm personally considering getting a tuning box for my C220d.

    • @StrikeEngine
      @StrikeEngine  3 года назад +1

      "Overwork" - Probably not. The engine is still controlled by the factory Mercedes software. If you accelerate and drive faster generally, logically things will wear faster.

    • @StrikeEngine
      @StrikeEngine  5 лет назад

      Hello Jeff. Tuning boxes generally do not change the injection timing at all. There are probably exceptions to the rule but I do not know of any. Closest I can think of is Steinbauer, I believe their products alter injection duration only, not timing.

      Thanks for the answer. Some cars like Jaguar and Mercedes have different models with exactly the same engine but the performance is limited by the ECU. Can you fit the tuning box for the higher power model to the lower power version and have the same results?

    • @StrikeEngine
      @StrikeEngine  5 лет назад +1

      Tough question. I suppose it would depend on how they have reduced the power, what software changes they made to the ECU. I wouldn't recommend it, just get the box that is designed for your specific car

    Great info but you said if you got a new exhaust you can’t use a tuner box?

    • @Smokeyr67
      @Smokeyr67 3 года назад +1

      Unless the box is tuneable itself, then it’s not a good solution. They have to be programmed to suit the vehicle in its standard form, once you start changing other components you run the risk of being “outside the parameters” of the box. Sometimes it won’t make a difference, but once you start stacking upgrades (i.e. Exhaust, Intake, Injectors ) then you move further and further away from the parameters that the box was programmed for, reducing its effectiveness.

      @StrikeEngine  2 года назад

      Maybe if you have a tuning box and put a tune on top of that, it would work, but I don't see a reason for doing it. I think it would be much better just to do the remap.

  • @niallsommerville9941

    What about the fuelling, you only address the charge air, you won't get any benefits unless the fueling matches the air flow.

    • @StrikeEngine
      @StrikeEngine  6 лет назад +3

      Hi. For the tuning box you mean? Fuelling is looked after by the factory ECU (not the tuning box). The ECU injects fuel according to the MAF signal & also the lambda signal. More boost = more air entering the engine = raised MAF signal = more fuel.

    • @niallsommerville9941
      @niallsommerville9941 6 лет назад

      Car TV - StrikeEngine.com Ah, I made the comment based on the headline description and without seeing a reference to the unit. So that's more of a boost modifier than a "tuning box" to my mind. Thanks for taking the time to clarify.

    • @steviesteve750
      @steviesteve750 5 лет назад

      On a diesel engine, the airflow matches fuel. Opposite to petrol...

  • @robadcock65
    @robadcock65 6 лет назад +1

    If the dealer looks into it they can see your car's been running higher boost on acceleration as these numbers are apparently recorded. And if you're making a warranty claim they will look into it! I've been thinking of getting a JB or BlueSpark tuning box for my m135i and seen a lot of these claims about it not recording on the ECU but a BMW technician on one of the forums made it pretty clear that if they know what they're looking for you can't hide it.

    • @StrikeEngine
      @StrikeEngine  6 лет назад +3

      Hi. I've heard this also but never with an explanation as to how. *From my point of view* if the ECU does not know the actual boost pressure I don't know how it could record the actual boost pressure. I suppose a dealer could make a *guess* as to the boost pressure looking at other data but at the end of the day, they would be guessing, not knowing.

    • @robadcock65
      @robadcock65 6 лет назад

      So I've seen a couple of posts giving alternative views which I'll copy here- apologies for the wall of text but some people might find it interesting! First this guy who works for BMW, writing on a forum about a Bluespark Box:
      "I ran the box on my car at level 5 for around a week before it threw on the EML and even after the EML came on the car ran perfectly. I plugged the car in at work and got the ambient pressure sensor fault code, reset it and carried on with the box connected. The EML came on later that evening and drove it for a few days like that before removing the box the day before my car went into service.
      Once removed the EML went off again but the technician at work said theres a stored fault on the car has your engine light come on atall, i obviously acted dumb and said no! He said they had looked through all the data logs etc and couldnt find a fault, cleared the fault and road tested and all is well so very hard to trace by the looks of things!"
      But then this guy explains why warranty claims can be dismissed:
      "Can BMW detect a piggyback after its been removed? YES
      Several people and a few vendors claim it can't be seen by BMW since it changes the signals from the sensors hiding the extra boost and airflow. However BMW knows exactly how much fuel the car uses at all temperatures and authorized fuels (E0-E10) so if it is outside that range there is a mechanical failure/change or the tune has been altered. On a stock car the trims stay below 10%. A car with a piggy routinely sees above 20% during wide open throttle but goes back to normal while cruising. It's very obvious looking at data logs.
      Secondly they can take the time it takes for the car to accelerate based on speed or rpm rise over time and determine how much power it takes to accelerate the known mass of the car in the known amount of time. not perfectly accurate due to varying conditions but they can clearly see an extra 80-100 hp. It's how programs like virtual dyno work. virtualdyno.net/
      Second, will they void your warranty due to a tune?
      If you make a warranty claim for a major failed part BMW opens a PUMA case and requests the ECU data. They will see the tune/piggyback data and void the claim. I'm sure someone somewhere has gotten away with it for whatever reason but based on numerous posts on the forums and conversations with many SA's, the claim will not be honored."
      Although he also says he's been tuning turbo BMWs for 4 years and never seen a piggyback alone cause a failure. I guess it depends how much effort they put into looking for it?

    • @steviesteve750
      @steviesteve750 5 лет назад

      It's simple, there are multiple sensors on each car that give away over boosting the air pressure. Maf is one fir a start. Fuel flow, knock sensor. All of these start sending abnormal signals using a box, so there's a fairly obvious smoking gun.

  • @BojanBojovic
    @BojanBojovic 3 года назад

    Hmmm, interesting. Everyone says the remap is so much better as tuning box is deceiving the ECU so it can create many problems.

    3:18 *WRONG* a tuning box is detected after being used, even if removed. You don't know much about cars or forensics, or how insurers worked with police for years to collect evidence.
    A tuning box is rubbish, it takes no inputs from any engine components like the ECU can.
    It is just a £2 voltage multiplier. Sold for hundreds.
    Get a proper REMAP and at least your car will operate properly.

    • @StrikeEngine
      @StrikeEngine  2 года назад

      Hi. I don't class products which are just a voltage multipliers as tuning boxes. They are indeed "rubbish". This video is not about this type of "product".
      This video is about tuning boxes such as those from DTE etc
