- It doesn’t get easier than grilled cheese sandwich on the griddle! But of course, we had to kick it up a notch… We tried the classic grilled cheese sandwich with American cheese, and we also made a fancy version with shredded gruyere, sliced cheddar, and a parmesan crust. Use your Blackstone or Camp Chef flat top grill and try these combinations of different cheeses, breads, and oils/butters to create a fantastic grilled cheese sandwich.
You can make this easy chili to go with your grilled cheese.

This channel deserves a lot more views and subscribers! The Flat Top King and his wife have great personalities, and they offer up a wealth of knowledge on how to get the most out of one's griddle. Thanks for another great video. : )
Thanks you. I agree lets get us more subscribers. Any ideas
I'm still waiting to assemble my Blackstone, but trust me I'll be using it this winter and we live in NC.
I don't know if I'll keep watching this channel since you said that a grilled cheese with American cheese tastes as good your grilled Gruyère and cheddar cheese sandwich! I'll never make a grilled cheese with American cheese!! 🧀😂
I like putting fresh ground black pepper on right after laying down the cheese.
Looks great Neal. Keep em coming.
FTK, you and Mrs. FTK are the top tandem in Griddle Nation! Love the attention to detail in your cooks! By the way, with Veterans Day coming up, just wanted to thank you for your service! I did 3 years in Army(84 to 87). Keep the vids coming....thanks to you my FT skills are getting better by the day. ✌ Brother
SO good to hear and thank you for the kind words. Happy Veterans Day to you as well.
Nice job!! Looks great!
Thanks Andrew
Never seen that. Got to try it. Yep, I'm still grilling. Thank you so very much!
Heck yeah
40 degrees! That’s shorts and t-shirt weather up nort’!
I make some wicked good grilled cheese sandwiches, but your idea will take mine to the next level…thanks to you. Also, it’s cold in Tampa, but I’m using my Camp Chef…unless it snows here, then I’m out. Great video, stay warm.
Fantastic! Thanks Jerry
I loved it when your wife said, “I’m so cold I’m going to eat carbs today.” I am impressed with her that she stayed and filmed and froze doing it. Those sandwiches looked delicious. When are you guys going to write a cookbook? Soon I hope.
Yeah we really want to but its a hard game to get into...plus i need to be more disciplined to write down recipes...I am more of a wing it kinda guy..
@@TheFlatTopKing I’ll wait. 😂
Nice! Had to come check it out after you told me about this video. Hell yes shipmate, that is🔥
I am going to try that. Thank you for putting this together. Grilled cheese for the win! 🥇
Looks delicious. I bought my griddle this spring and plan on griddling all winter long this year up here in balmy North Dakota.
What part if ND. We lived near Torrington WYOMING for about 4 years.
@@TheFlatTopKing Eastern, just outside Fargo.
Watching from Maryland! It’s in the teens right now!🥶 love your channel! You both are great!!
Thanks Dana. Its 17 this morning and I’m smoking ribs for a party
New subscriber from Maryville!
Hey thanks bud...appreciate that...GBO...
Yep! We out there in the cold with you buddy !!! you guys just need a heat lamp lol 😂
Colorado, 25 degrees, and I’m flattop cooking.
Great looking grilled cheese one of my favorite things to eat! I've got one for you and I've looked over your videos so I may have missed it. I'd like to see your take on salmon cakes on the flat top. I bet with your spin on things you can push them over the top😋
That is on the list. Crab cakes as well.
Love Your videos!! I am with you on the Butter thing, mayonnaise only if your out of butter!
In Melbourne Australia the weather is just starting to warm up. I’ll give this sanga a try on the weekend.
Greetings from Hamilton County. Congrats on your choice of American cheese slices. That's the best American cheese, hands down. As for mayonnaise to replace butter on grilled cheese, I groan and wince at the suggestion. I tried it and decided it didn't want my grilled cheese to smell and taste like vinegar. Therefore, it's only BUTTER for me (sometimes olive oil). By the way, be on the lookout for Kraft Cracker Barrel Extra Sharp Cheddar Slices. It's an 8-oz pack, 8 thick slices (1 ounce each), and currently only $2.98 at Walmart.
Thanks Brother, I will check that out.
YA BABY That's what I'm Talkin About !!!!!
Swiss on Rye with a lil mustard. Best Grilled Chese ever. Great video thanks King!
Thanks for watching
Neil GOOD MORNING ! My friend, so it's cold in East Tennessee ? I already shovled about 10 inches of snow.. I would use my griddle but it's to cold up here in montana. Good video FRANK FROM MONTANA....
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I told her that imagine being in Wyoming right now. Miss those days.
I like the traditional grilled cheese using butter! Dipping it tomato soup. That crunch was excellent and I liked the idea of using parmigiana cheese on the outside crust! Nicely done Neal! ( I’m smoking some ribs it’s about 35 degrees in Buffalo) Cheers!
Heck ya on the ribs. Thinking about trying pork belly for the first time. Cut into squares seasoned then sauced.
Any interest on how I cook my turkey for thanksgiving. Not flatop style but…
Oh yeah...always interested in your recipes.
Those sandwiches looked so delicious. Your wife is absolutely hilarious. 40° is beer drinking weather to me. Keep doing what you're doing 👑.
HAHAHAHA
I'm going to try this on our next camping trip!
You should! you wont have time now. 😂
@@TheFlatTopKing i need your dad's number! You know to get him out of the house a few days a month?

I like to cook on flattop griddle as well love to watch you both nice team effort . Even got the electric griddle for indoors. Not as good but works just saying.... Again love to watch you cook
That is awesome!
Gotta love a grilled cheese!!
Love this grilled cheese recipe and yes we flat top grilling in Southern Indiana where it is in the 20's in the morning and starts dropping to the 40's by 3pm. Grilling all year round bruh! Just get your wife some gloves like the wide receivers wear in cold weather and she'll be all right! I made my compound butter like you do! Soooo good!! Keep on keepin on! Love your videos!💯👊
Awesome to hear. Thanks for the compliment. Ill let her know you said to suck it up. 😂😂😂😂😂. I told her to get gloves she told me to cook faster. 🤣
@@TheFlatTopKing 🤣🤣👌🏼💯👊
I live in Wisconsin, I cook outside year round! I owned a catering business for 5 years, I had a mobile charcoal grill. I did a steak dinner when it was -25 with a 30 mph wind! That was cold! 40 degrees isn't bad Lol!
Thanks for sharing! Yeah thats cold...I used to live in Wyoming so I can relate
Now thats a Grilled Cheese Brotha ✊🏼🧐👊🏼😎!!
Both look great, but I love the parm crust! If you can find smoked gouda, give that a try, it's a favorite of ours. I need crispy, too, a melty inside but snap on the bite... And tell the Mrs. it's in the upper 30s here in NY this weekend, and I'm still cooking outside!
I love smoked gouda. Probably top 3 in favorites. Wish I could find a smoked pepper jack
@@TheFlatTopKing Hmmmm.... Maybe we can add the smoke🤔🤔🤔
Great job on the Parm crust FTK, now we need a bowl of that homemade roasted tomato soup for those frosty days.
Yep. Making ted beans and rice soon
Add thin sliced onions so good
Great idea!
I go to a place called Bright Cheese in Bright Ontario Canada, and they make various cheeses, and we make our grilled cheese. And Yes I live in Brantford Ontario and grill year-round, I shovel snow out to get my Camp Chef Stove and Grill and My Masterbuilt Gravity Digital Charcoal Grill and Smoker
Thats dedication. Awesome. I will make sure my wife knows how well she has it 😂😂
Bores Head black wax cheddar from the deli is great, if you can find it. It
Crispy bread is a must!!! but getting the cheese properly melted makes the sandwich
nailed it.....absolutely right
I used my flat top in 25° the other night!!
I live in Montana and will grill/griddle year round. Even at -30f.
Awesome...used to live in WY....
I started buying cheese from the deli and having it sliced. the taste is far and away better than any of the packaged cheese. boars head is my favorite brand.
we have as well...especially the american...
The stuff YOU wouldn't normally buy, is kraft singles and they taste amazing on a grilled cheese
I will buy Kraft...but not in single packages...only the deluxe haahhaha
Hello I have a little cooks griddle I would like to know what temperature eggs n bacon cook at .
I like 300 to 325 ish...
Going to say that one of the best grilled cheeses I've made, might sound a bit off.
I will shred up a mixture of American and mozzarella, while making a garlic butter crust and 2 plain American slices directly on each slice before the mixture.
I will set it out, showing the creamy gooiness in the center.
Easily I can serve hundreds a day at my job.
Before trying it this way, I always thought mozzarella would be a bad idea, but it mixes well and tastes great.
Sounds great!
I was grillin' last night. It was in the upper 30's. No snow yet, here in Taxichusetts. Grilled cheese is on the list. Gruyere...who would have thunk it?
Taxichusetts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haven’t talked to ya in a while. Ya good..
@@TheFlatTopKing As good a a 60 year old BT2 can be. I'm a Guinea, and those meatball subs looked like the real deal. I'm working on cube steak on the the Flat Top. God Bless you and you're family. Thanks for all the ideas.
The gruyere, cheddar and Parmigiano is like what panera use to have as the big kid grilled cheese.
Just reading those the cheeses in a comment makes me smile
@Flat Top King - On the olive oil and butter... I read a book about The Beastie Boys. They included recipes for some of their favorite things. One was a breakfast egg dish (basically scrambled eggs, with fried eggs on top of them, then crumbled hard boiled eggs on top) they cooked the eggs in butter and olive oil. I have been making my eggs like that ever since. Very good.
Wow thats called eggs three ways i guess.
@@TheFlatTopKing I have never added the hard boiled egg...but fried eggs on top of scrambled eggs is good.
@@RogerThat1986 i have made scrambled egg and cheese in an omelette before. Interesting
Excellent choice of bread. Hope you got them on sale at the "store". 😜
Well the store has them on sale but the cuts say different.
No need for olive oil and butter if you use spreadable Land O Lakes Butter with Olive Oil (not Canola) combined.
Yes Amy, some of us viewers are using our grills, I was cooking last Saturday for a neighborhood gathering. Of course, here in Central Texas it was 70ish................:) Wouldn't you think a loving husband and RUclips star would splurge for a radiant heater for the top notch videographer? Just sayin'........
Gotta love us some Gruyere, and you're right about it kicking up the flavor profile of mac n' cheese. When folks ask me for a flavor comp I usually say it resembles a good Swiss without the holes.....just a bit of "tang". Yum...........
I could just see one of those huge outside heaters on the side. God it i reversed the phone today for u to see her you would have broken your spleen laughing so hard. 40 looked like she was in Alaska dog sledding. 😂
How hot was the griddle?
No clue....I dont cook to temp on griddles...to many variations...I have a video explaining why..."what temp should I cook on my griddle"/
Any worries that the griddle will warp in the cold from heat shock?
From the comments below i dont think so. I preheat usually on low anyways but there are people saying they cook all year long in the deep cold. Like single to negative digits
@@TheFlatTopKing oh wow ok. Thanks - that’s good to know for the day my camp chef ever gets replaced.
@@DexterityNJ go for it.
So, how about mayo made with olive oil??? Have you ever tried to cold smoke cheese? It's really not that difficult I guess. Have you ever had a horseradish grilled cheese made with horseradish cheese? Good stuff!👍😎 Tell the Mrs. that it will be a high. Of 30 and lows in the teens this weekend here in NW Wisconsin. BTW, if you would like,I can hook ya up with the some horseradish cheese and a few others if you would like some. Seriously. I never kid around when it comes to cheese!🧀😃😎👍😉🧀🥓
Would be great if you added a surface temp thermometer and periodically mentioned the readings. An experienced cook like yourself can adjust knobs based upon how the food reacts but we beginners need a little guidance
Fair point. Ill look into it.
Could add garlic powder to it too
Good idea. To the crust or the cheese
The crust
Outstanding. Grilled cheese being respected right here. Right on! Lets all laugh at that one vegan guy that gave a thumbs down ...........
Gotta toast both sides
????? You mean each slice of bread toasted then put together and toasted again???? No thanks
Looks good, but mine have bacon
Yup!👍😎😉🥓🧀
Looks great! Now make a tomato soup to do them in ... Unless, that's not a thing in the south.....
Absolutely....
40*????
I’m from Ohio, and for me 40* is like a Summer time 😙😙I’ll be wearing shorts and a tank top😂😂
Snow is coming to your house😂
RUN
King 👑 ? You never say what your burner is set to on ur cooking vid(s) ? Low ? Med ? High ? Or Med-Hi ?
I always use low...on all griddles..
I stay away from store bought sourdough, since it's not real sourdough.
Oh yeah. It's gotta be crispy because it is probably gonna be dunked in a bowl of chili or soup.
You know it!
Why is it a grilled cheese when it's not actually grilled?
Same reason why the French cant claim the French Fry...
I find american cheese from the deli is better :)
Yeah we get that as well. Ill look for the bores head.
@@TheFlatTopKing oh ok. I hope you are able to find it.
Kraft doesn't do anything different between individually wrapped cheese than they do with packaged cheese that's not wrapped. Sorry to tell you.
Ya there is, in the thickness of the cheese. The wrapped slices can be displayed without refrigeration, where the unwrapped has to be refrigerated. Also, one is classified as a cheese food, the other is a cheese product and yes, there is a difference between the two.
Amen that packaged stuff taste horrible. NO way its the same. Period
lol
Would love to watch the whole video but can't get over the lady constantly complaining how cold she is
its cold..ahahhaha maybe in the low teens that day...
Today I learned there are people out there making grilled cheese with mayonnaise. Why?
If u break down mayo ingredients it has a lot of oil. Some like to spread the outside of the bread with mayo. It’s actually does give a great crust but I’m not a fan of the flavor. I like the butter taste way more.
Can’t use that kind of cheese. Come on man.
do it al the time....
