Hey Paul. This tutorial is fantastic - thank you for posting it! After all the rigamarole of my previous attempt to setup a 32bit Windows 10 environment on my Mac with VirtualBox, this was so easy! I never clicked on the USB settings on the VirtualBox window previously to start the Canon5d driver, so maybe I was very close but didn't know it..., but it doesn't matter now. This worked perfectly! I followed along exactly as you showed and now I can add picture profiles direct to my 5D. Thanks very much!!
Hi JR, this is such great news! I did a lot of research based on the issues you were experiencing and found that Windows XP is a much simpler option for virtualisation than Windows 10. I'm just relieved that it all worked out for you, so posting this video was definitely a worthwhile task. When you get the chance it would be nice to know what your all-time favourite pictures styles are, thanks a lot 👍
That was a monumental effort, well done indeed. The previous owner's name continues to appear on all imported file metadata from my own 5D and it annoys the hell out of me not being able to connect the camera to the EOS Utility to change things. I therefore attempted something similar to this on a Windows 10 laptop some years ago, but failed miserably. Having just scoured the web with a view to trying again, I have been met with several security warnings prompted by very dodgy file sharing sites from God knows where. But I do admire your perseverance and hats off to you for uploading this guidance.
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your 'EOS Utility' story. I hope you can find the time to attempt the process again, even if it's to inspire you to start using the Canon 5D Classic again, good luck 😎👍
Awesome and so nostalgic lol. Great to know that usb-passthrough works fine with Virtualbox on MacOs... I still have a Win7 laptop I use to manage picture styles, but this is great to know when that laptop dies. Changing the subject real quick - what are your fave pic styles lately?
Happy to hear you found the video useful, thank you 👍 The Canon 5D Classic is now 18 years old 😱 and it’s great to see so many people, like yourself, still finding this camera useful even today with so many other ‘newer, better’ cameras on the market. My aim seems very similar to yours, to keep this unique camera and its software alive for as long as possible. If something breaks, we’ll find another option to fix it 😊 My go-to picture styles at the moment are No. 66. Fuji Velvia 100F with sharpness at maximum and contrast at zero, No. 104. OLD-Town Neut with just saturation at maximum and No. 17. BW_5 with just sharpness at maximum😎 And you, what are your favourites? Thanks 👍
Sorry Paul, I’m trying to follow your instructions but… is it normal that it took so many hours to install XP and now it is stacked while installing the Guest addictions? 😅 my laptop is good, it’s a Thinkpad L590, not bad. But it’s all’ incredibly slow 😞 is not possible to set the paramiters on camera? Just moving saturation ecc in picture controls? I think it’s not so simple right? 😅 thanks a lot
Hi, this video is for installing Windows XP 32-bit on an Intel Mac using VirtualBox, not on a Windows laptop. If you’re looking to set up the Canon EOS Utility software for the Canon 5D Classic on a Windows 10 32-bit laptop, please check out my other video here: ruclips.net/video/0ZHzTw4AI-4/видео.html To get started with that setup, you’ll first need to install Windows 10 32-bit on your laptop. A quick RUclips search should give you plenty of step-by-step guides for that process. (My Laptop is a 12 Year old Lenovo ThinkPad T430u) In response to your question, you can only add Picture Styles to the Canon 5D Classic through the Canon EOS Utility software. Thanks!
I think there may also be a magic lantern possibility for the 5d mark 1 but not as functional as the versions for other 5d versions. No live view, I think.
I did look into Magic Lantern many years ago, to my surprise even today the 5D Classic firmware is still available for download 🙂 If my curiosity gets the better of me I may upload it to my 5D Classic and share the results 😎
@@paulappleby2729 I've thought about doing it, but I haven't yet. Maybe. It is probably more useful for Mark II owners and higher. Best wishes, God bless! PS I don't know that there is any RUclips video on using it in a Mark 1, nor has there been one on using it in the field, to my knowledge. So, perhaps that topic may garner some views?
@@paulappleby2729 Also, I did find and upgrade the firmware on my 5D to the last version which is needed for larger CF cards (I had personal experience on photo loss without it. Shot fine, lost it in chimping and the files became corrupted, so I decided that last firmware release was quite needed. All good since. )
Hey man , I’m trying to set this up but the canon driver is not there anymore , it says can’t be found . Do you have it saved anywhere by any chance ? Thx

Super helpful, thank you! 😎
Confirming this also works on a 1D Mk4 - thanks! (although I did download EOS Utility Updater 2.14.1 as well - not 100% sure if that was necessary)
Thank you for sharing this information, very helpful! 📸😎👍

Can you convert Lightroom presets into picture styles?
Unfortunately, it's not possible

Thank you for letting me know 👍 I have generated a new link to Canon's new camera support location 👌
Thank you 🤓
Happy to help 👍
Or you can save yourself all the steps and set all the values on the camera manually… just a thought 🤷🏼
- I wish it wasn't with a mac... 😢
Your wish...granted 😊 ruclips.net/video/0ZHzTw4AI-4/видео.html
