How to Upgrade Your Spear
Unlike the other weapons that make up Aloy’s arsenal, the spear cannot be traded out for new items. Unfortunately, players are stuck with the same spear that they start the game with. This doesn’t mean there aren’t some ways to upgrade it though, and below you’ll find out everything you need to know to increase the amount of damage your spear can do.
Step 1: Complete side quest In Her Mother’s Footsteps.
This side quest, which you find early on in the game, tasks Aloy with finding a wounded hunter’s daughter. After speaking with the man, head out across the land and follow the young girl’s tracks. Once you’ve found her, the quest will update, and you’ll have to acquire a spear from the body of a nearby Scrapper. Take the Scrapper out, then return to Thok, the hunter, with the spear. He’ll reward you with a Spear Damage Boost.
Step 2: Unlock Melee Related Skills
The next thing you can do to increase your spear’s damage is to unlock some of the melee oriented skills available in the Skills Menu. There aren’t many skills available that help out the spear’s overall damage, but we have listed a few useful ones below:
Precision - Aloy’s light spear attacks have an increased change of knocking off armor and components.
Precision+ - Light spear attacks have a greatly increased chance of knocking off armor and components.
Knock Down - Heavy spear attacks knock machines down faster.
Fighting Back - Aloy’s heavy spear attacks deal more damage when her health is low.
How to Get a New Spear
As stated above, there currently aren’t any ways to purchase a new spear and add it to your arsenal. While you can upgrade your basic spear damage, there is only one true way to get an entirely new spear. To do this, make your way through the main mission until you reach the quest The Mountain That Fell. After you complete the quest, Sylens will reward you with his personal Lance, a spear-like item with improved damage and an added electric shock component.

First one is the only one anyone might miss since it's a side quest, gives a +1 damage bonus to your spear, but yeah not really a useful video.

I look for all quests and errands. They add to your XP and give out skill points. The first thing I really do is open up the map by going to all the tall neck sites even if they are cloud covered.
Yep the sidequests also required for the trophy ending. Unfortunately though some people just plow through the story and even skip every scene they can for some reason, TBH I don't get people.

My only gripe with this game, is when you can finally override a machine, you should be able to ride/fly it. Now wouldn't that be great? Flying around the map on a glint hawk, or for the more daring, a storm bird? Or imagine rolling up into battle on the back of a thunderjaw? Super bad ass.

So...I see this is done by a person at level 47. I'm currently level 23. All these videos make things look easy, but they're not. My advice; just play the game & enjoy it. Everyone does things differently. The actual fun comes from figuring out for yourself how to defeat machines, & complete the missions.

@David Zuñiga I didn’t need the DLC to upgrade the spear, (I don’t think, but I DID get the DLC, for the extra game content).
I’ve jus been enjoying the game, I only checked this video out cuz I was tired of getting spear mods and not knowing how to use them 😅

I like how my 2nd cauldron was zeta, the one where you can override thunderjaws
I will save you some time.
First : every Hotbed or Cauldrons, can be found on card with precise search
Second:First side quest =a man is laying somewhere near a horde and is shouting out to you
Third: Play story
Fourth: Wild West Dlc needed! In the main village, after 1-3 main quest is a side quest from a full "equipped" man/banuk with a side quest.(reward is a moduel slot for spear)
Last: Takedown many monsters for modules to strengthen your spear
The skills are not really needed except the precision
The mothers footsteps quest really does help . I had beat the main game and when I finished that quest my spear was litteraly one hit kills on smal m machines / people .
I did that quest early on so I don't know what it's like to not have it
what do the cauldrons have to do with it? The skill thing is just a skill thing and the new spear is something you get just by going through the story. So where do the cauldrons come in? It just ends.

Nothing, overriding the cauldrons simply allows you to override different machines to use in combat and also allows you to ride a few of them.

You don't have to pick the heart option all the time, doesn't matter, just complete all side quests then trigger the final mission (again), I already got the platinum lol

It doesn't matter which dialogue option you take.. He was referring to the all allies joined trophy.. You just have to finish all sidequests.. You can even duel and kill one of those allies you will still get that trophy so don't worry just pick any dialogue you want and enjoy the game =)
