Wait, people DON'T use Tearblast arrows? I nearly always open with them against larger machines. Blowing components off is so satisfying, and I love the animation and sound effect too. And killing a machine with its own weapons is just fun

The Tearjaw arrows are almost a necessity for big machine hunts, they both lessen machines health by tearing of components and then reduce the offensive capabilites of the machine. The Thunderjaw is easier to manage if you take away it's artillery, minigun, and lasers.

At least on Ultra Hard, tearblast arrows do nothing. I need like 5 to blow off a single disc launcher.

I’m 55 and just getting back into gaming after 25 years (my last console was a PS2!!!). I wanted an open world adventure game and had just completed Hogwarts Legacy, which was my first foray since Tomb Raider on the PS2. Hogwarts was pretty easy to master on the normal level and I wanted something harder, well HZD nearly put me off to begin with 😁 I had to have a break very early on after meeting the Sawtooth and wondered how I would ever get through this game. I do use stealth a lot but your guides are now invaluable and its so satisfying to take down the big robots and I feel quite proud of myself when my 9 year old son (who’s a gaming natural) says to me “I could not do that” 😁. He could and he will. I’m about 70% of the way through and then I’ll head into the Frozen Wilds. After watching a few of your guides on FW I have to admit I’m feeling pretty daunted by the complexity but I’ll give it a go. Thanks a lot for your hard work. Your presentation style is so good and you are definitely a professional.

I've always played at ultra hard, where tearblast arrows are really ineffective.
Ropes are usually better than tearblast arrows early game. If you tie down a machine, once the ropes are torn off, they deal loads of tear damage. Because they deal no damage before being torn off, you can tie down a machine, then tie each body part down, then if you use a single spear attack, all ropes and the body parts will get torn off at once.
It's quite spectacular to see an entire machine get torn to shreds with a single spear hit.

Tearblast all its weapons: Disc Launcher > Lasers > Tails, then tie him down. Once it's tied down, tearblast his batteries out, that'll deal high damage on him.
You can also pick up its disc launchers while its tied down and blast him with it, preferably while tied down.

I remember my first thunderjaw. I don’t remember exactly what quest I was on, but I had to pass through a creek area. On the creek was a thunderjaw. I know I wasn’t too late in the game because I had JUST gotten tear last arrows. I was both streaming and in a VC so I was willing to spend hours to kill that thing. I kept throwing myself at it over and over and through trial and error slowly began improving. I adopted my makeshift strategy of tearblasting the cannons off, running for my life to the cannons, and grabbing them. Through this fight I learned that because of how big and bulky the thunderjaw is, you can dodge through its legs for most attacks or just under its head. Anyways, I grabbed that cannon and focused first on spamming down its head to expose its weak point and remove its guns, then blast its side to expose its heart. Then I booked it to the other disk launcher and did that same thing. Around this point it would get knocked to the ground, and at this point I would just try my best to shoot that heart. I don’t quite remember if I knew about the freeze canisters at this point, but if I did, I shot them. I also learned the little divots in the ground can be nice safe spots, and that I could call my strider in as death fodder and a tad bit of chip damage. Eventually- the beast fell

Killed this thunderjaw with tearblast arrows (dismantled it like a LEGO!) and precision arrows. I didn't know about freezing or the ropes. It went like "tearblast arrow on disc launchers, run and hide, wait, back and repeat until opening the heart, then precision arrows and run and hide again, always on the high ground. Took a lot of time but worked! Now I have the full arsenal and it's tearblast-ropes-freeze-stickybombs!

Great tutorial. Also, this particular TJaw is beside some small ruins on the road - you can cheese the geography a bit and skip the ropes, the ruins will kinda do that part for you, as the beast won’t follow you down the left fork in the road. Then tearblast, freeze, precision, etc, as you described for the takedown. Furthermore, some random Carja troops came by and joined in, nice touch.
Really loving this game so far, the combat feels fun and interesting. Nice that it came with Frozen Wilds, and that there’s a sequel to get right after.

Love this tutorial😎 2024 and I am still playing this beatiful game like the 1st day I played it😀 This game makes you think for a strategy first depending on what machine's you are taking on. You can rally them, stealth, traps, melee, long range or make the machines fight for you😎 My favorite strategy is to always look for a higher ground especially when I am dealing with bandits😁
Some games makes me feel that their gameplay is already fixed. It is either you use magic, guns or swords and not as versatile as the gameplay that I experienced with horizon games😁

Since I saw a comment describing their first thunderjaw experience, I think I should share mine. I was level 33, and I needed purple mods so I went to the exact same site as arktix. I tore off its cannons using tearblast arrows, tied it down, froze it and used the disc launcher on its heart. It took both launchers to kill it. By that point, I already had oseram arrow breaker heavy, shadow rope caster, shadow sharp shot, shadow hunter and shadow sling. So it was quite easy. I wouldn’t recommend fighting the thunderjaw until you’re above level 33. Otherwise, you will tend to struggle. If you’re planning to take down the thunderjaw early on, at least buy the shadow ropecaster so it’ll take 3-4 shots to tie it down and it will stay tied down for 90 seconds

The thunderjaw is HUGE. I used to use 1 tearblast arrow in a location in the middle, where it hits the 2 disc launchers and the 2 cylinders near the tail. As soon as I do that, I hit the 2 guns on the head. I can take both of them off with 2 well placed arrows. Then I take off the armor plates that covers the heart and grab a freeze arrow or bomb. After that, I take a disc launcher and fire on the head, or the eye. It usually finishes it quite quickly

Strip it off of its weapons esp. the disc launchers, the lasers on its face then tie him down.

I feel like it would be better if you first tied down the thunderjaw, froze it then shot off its disc launchers to do a good amount of damage. Or, use tearblast arrows to tear of its disc launchers, tue it down, freeze it and use the disc launchers on its heart. Tie it down again, freeze it. If you empty both the launchers, it should be enough to kill it.

Daemonic Thunderjaw (I suppose it is the only one you will encounter, in the frozen wilds), I like to do shock damage to his tail canister, so he you be stunned for some good time, since he is immune to frozen. Anyway tho, UH thunderjaw requires 4 TB arrows to knock off disc launchers, so you can preload 3 arrows and shot one right after to do so.

Thunderjaws are my absolute favorite machine to fight in the whole game (haven't done Frozen Wilds yet and (perhaps obviously) haven't played Forbidden West yet). Once I learned the specific nuances of the dodge, Tjaws became *_SO_* fun to fight. I fight every one I pass because I enjoy it so much. I'm currently working on finishing the game for the first time.
    Stuff no one asked for:
I made a tierlist of my favorites (excluding Frozen Wilds and Tallnecks because you don't fight them), with Tjaws at the top followed by Rockbreakers and Sawtooths. Everything else is in a lower tier, being based on both fun and challenge, and Glinthawks are at the very bottom, the only one in the worst tier. I *_HATE_* fighting Glinthawks. They're not per se hard, they're just so unbelievably annoying, specifically since they fly way above and directly over your head almost constantly, making it nigh-impossible to shoot them. Other than that, everything is at least slightly fun or a decent or better challenge, so yeah.

only the stalker doesnt evolve and never has any armor.
the game does teach about the ropecaster...but only if u bother watching the video about them in the shop.
they are however available from very early on, and players who care about weapons would check them out.
still...the whole elemental and rope mechanics that u need to fill the bar...is not explained at all.
if a player thinks about it more seriously, he can understand it quickly though.
freeze bombs have only the advantage of leaving freeze on the ground which can help freeze targets faster by passively applying it.
freezing multiplies damage X3, but only for damage arrows and not for bombs. for bombs its only X1.25.
also it seems the effect doesnt stack perfectly with major weakspots like the heart of brain...but it still stacks in a significant way.
i think the white circle around the rope icon is bugged and u need to stop shooting them at him for it to appear. no need to waste a ton of ropes till it appears.

      @ArktixOfficial  2 года назад +1

@cobrazax Oh good point! I never thought about the fact that the Stalkers don't evolve, but I'm pretty sure you're right! And thanks for summarizing these other tips too. I agree there's something up with the ropecaster not showing the white circle. It happens in Forbidden West too. I wonder if it's some aspect of how machines interact with being tied down, but there doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern. Sometimes the circle appears right when you expect it to, other times it doesn't.

Thunderjaws are a bit different in Forbidden West. You want to aim for the data nexus on their head instead of the heart. Plus, they're no longer weak to frost. I've got a Tjaw hunting guide for HFW on my list of videos to make!
