    It's shocking how many coaches don't teach that small step with the right foot when throwing a straight right, and even more shocking how many well intentioned people will tell you it's wrong. I didn't pick that crucial detail up till I started training with some Russian boxers a number of years ago and it changed my whole game, allowed me to capitalize on my reach without overreaching. I'm so glad to see somebody finally point that out here on youtube. Do you have any videos specifically about that step?

    My wing chun teacher used to draw a straight line with an arrow at a ninety degree angle. That's what people are. It's like a tank. You got your turrets and you got your treads. You want to move the treads into place so your turrets can fire. When you think about it like that, it all makes sense. This video goes right along with another common problem, which is people offbalancing with head movement or pull counters as beginners, moving way too far. Salute Coach Ant

    I’m beginning to teach people and a problem I have with teaching is actually that step with the rear foot for the cross. They get the step jab, but for some reason, they want to either drag their back foot or not move it at all. There’s a weird nuance to it that I find hard to explain to new people.
    You’re essentially pivoting your foot in mid air for a split second and finish the pivot once your rear foot lands. Some people it’s not a problem. But it’s hard to articulate and explain how to do it. For me at least.

    Coach Anthony,
    Your content is awesome! I’m learning so much!
    I had a question about defense. When taking punches am I to relax and take the hit or tense up. Also how am I breathing when taking punches. Do I breathe as he’s punching or hold my breath.

    • @itslogan1347

      Student of the Game I’d say the best thing to do when getting attacked is to move sideways are soon as they send there attack throw the jab

    • @ringroadmap2048
      @ringroadmap2048 5 лет назад +4

      When you defend, don't hold your breath. It's okay to tense up and brace for it but don't get stuck in that tension. Imagine a bullet hitting a pillow, that's like getting hit at a relaxed state. When you block, keep everything tight but relax afterwards.

    Hey Coach - what boxing shoes you use outside the ring?... the ring is bouncy and good for boxingshoes without much sole support - outside the ring for all round training im looking for something other than a running shoe - something with support in heel and front foot with good grib.... squash shoes basketball shoes? some are bulky maybe nike SB? what Pattas are you wearing Anthony? im 95kg so need the support skipping in boxing shoes on hard surface it too much impact.
