The reason Connor had such a hard time with Ignominious is that mi is the primary stress so the o in no gets reduced to a Schwa which is essentially a neutral vowel. This happens to must vowels directly before a stressed syllable to make the stress more prominent so a, e, o, u can an all sound like a Schwa. The only vowal that doesn't really happen to is the short i sound.

If you do another spelling bee, it might be worth having an American also pronounce the word (Sydney or Meilyne) just to hear some differences (like caulk/cork/cock are distinct in American accents)

He definitely got screwed over on a handful of the words to a greater degree than the rest, imo. I think a good addition to future spelling bee streams would be to make the definition an extra point. So every word would award two points, but only one point if you can't supply the definition. Would make it more of a mix between a quiz and a spelling competition.

It was really painful to see Connor basically giving up after a third of a competition. And to be honest it would've been very probable that he would be last even if he tried.
How did he give up? He tried on all of them. And to be fair, even if he acted demotivated it was pretty understandable since he was screwed over in a lot of words. Chris’ later words were the only ones that rivaled Connor’s difficulty imo.
