As expected, the Drenduga are truly magnificent animals! Hybridization was not something I expected to be discussed seriously, especially in detail of a specific individual! I wonder- is there any record of how social Dukilgun was? Did he follow in the sociality of his Mammoth heritage, or was he more solitary like a Drenduga bull? The last sentence of the episode seemed to imply that this rumored new hybrid lives amongst Mammoths and follows their social conduct. Furthermore, is there any information on his early life, such as which of his parents was the Mammoth and Drenduga, and whether or not that influenced his appearance/behavior?
After hearing the story of Munarak, I (surely alike many Qajarith people) have great respect for him, especially for the way he prioritized his elephants’ safety and still managed to achieve such great victories. It’s really nice to hear that Dukilgun, unlike many war elephants on Earth, was able to live to the end of his natural life in comfort and luxury! It’s also remarkable to learn that the Qajarith Republic originated with the help of elephants! I remember hearing from the episode on Nerotan Lions something about House Nerotan being somehow separated/distinguished from the Republic- would Munarak’s failed campaign there have something to do with this? I also would like to ask- how Munarak was able to convince so many elephants to aid in military conquest, and how many of his forces were Mammoths and how many were Drenduga?
Thanks again for such an amazing installment to this series! Considering how essential elephants seem to be in the establishment of the modern-day Qajarith Republic, it’s a wonder why they have not been mentioned prior! I’m incredibly hyped for next week’s episode, as I remember you mentioning a video about the Deinotheres being in the works some time ago! As always, keep up the incredible work you do!

I like all the part about the hybrid elephants !
That a Drenduga (Palaeoloxodon) and Bosuga/Highland Mammoth (Mammuthus) is called a Ilduga (Palaeoloxodon x Mammuthus).
And that the specific specimen that befriend with Munarak is called Dukilgun !
I guess that the two were most often always sen togethers, that their bond were big and complex and that when during a battle or in campaign, Murarak was always on the back of Dukilgun, in all the impressive stature/view the latter with its huge size and battle armor, leading their army into the battle !

I like how even though you changed some things about them (most notably their range and social behavior), you made the Drenduga a significant part of Kaimere's history. Also, HOLY SHIT, DUKILGUN IS F**KING HUGE!!!
    A few questions:
    1. Would a hybrid like Dukilgun be viewed as a savior by other mammoths and Drenduga? Because I can see a Zentaur taking one look at one and just noping out.
    2. Do Zentaur experience regional differences? Like in the Titan Gardens, they look like how most view them but have a thicker coating of feathers with those in the eastern Arvelith Highlands and are smaller to better maneuver through the dense forests of the Crescent Jungles.
    3. Is there a reason why Drenduga are not as social as mammoths?
    4. Does Munarak keep any of Dukilgun's bones or tusks to remember his companion? If not, what did he do with them?
    5. Is there a reason why there are no proboscideans in Pakardia?

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  Год назад +5

Absolutely! Once I finalized the highlands I realized it was a much better place for the drenduga to be than barely scraping by in the lowland forests.
      1. Haha possibly! Unlike most bulls he was a resident (never really fit in with mammoth herds so once he bonded with the village he stuck around) and would absolutely have helped defend them from predators. The village was in the east, but not too far, so zentaur wouldn't be common but he may have encountered one or two.
      2. There are several zentaur subspecies throughout the two continents. The Ni'Khari zentaur for example is more gracile and less feathers due to living in a hotter climate, while the now-extinct Qajarith zentaur was darker and the bulkiest, with a bit of a mane (would look more like an oritaku). Most common is the zentaur of the Arvelith titan gardens. The old design I have is of a female, which are more robust (and the art style is much improved in this one but that's life sometimes), while the new one is a male of the same population.
      3. Just have smaller populations and larger size, so they don't need the herds for protection. The zentaur is the only thing in town big enough to threaten a cow, much less a bull, whereas a pair of cave lion brothers can bring down all but the largest mammoths so they really need each other.
      4. He definitely kept the tusks. I've drawn them as part of a throne he used back when he was the leader of the Republic, but he may have them at his estate in modern times, especially now that Triarchs run the executive branch of the senate rather than one man.
      5. There's very little grass or deciduous plants. Enough for deer, but larger angiosperm specialists like hippos and water buffalo don't have large populations because there's not a lot to eat. Black sloths have adapted to a largely conifer-based diet, which is why they've since returned to the known world and are doing quite well. Common drakes and jurazhent titans are by far the most common herbivores of Pakardia because the flora is much more to their liking.

1 - If Qajar isn't part of and shown in the current distribution range map of the Bosuga/Highland Mammoth and Drenduga, despite a viable population of both were reintroduced in the peninsula, it's because their number, while enough to made them subsist on the long term, still too low to made Qajar to count as a proper place to include in their official repartition.
2 - It's good to know that Elephants on Qajar are protected, and that the Ivory trade and hunt is illegal (due to the story of Munarak), or at least in a very low level.
Yet, since both the Mammoth and Drenduga's most of their repartition go very far outside the Known World to the west, both species isn't threatened by this Trade anyway (since the Ivory Trade only occurs inside the Known World region) at the oppossite of their Tugas relatives in the Southern Island.
3 - It's a nice addition to add sometimes in your video a story like the one displayed in this video, that could otherwise completely fitt in a typical novella (but that work too, why not ?!).
Mainly here because this story explained the establishement of the current governement of Qajar that still in display in Modern Times, and who was until today never truly explained before.
4 - Currently, Qajar is divided in 3 regions : the Qajarith Republic, the Nerotan Land, and the Forested Mountainous at the North region where the Loggers live (don't know if it's have a proper name, but that isn't important).
While all ther egion unified and in peace, some tension still exist, between the Nerotan (and from them in fact) toward all the others.
Nerotan (if I don't say mistake) never fall and lost again Munarak and it's army, never, and only accept ending peace with the rest of Qajar for Economic and Trading bussness and benefits. While still pretty independant as a country, and never search to colonise the overall peninsula, Nerotan don't see the current governement with a good eye (for some reasons).

      2. He lived into his 70’s.
      3. Nope. They’re way too distant.
      4. Assuming we’re putting him in his prime (a bit smaller than maximum but before joint issues came into play due to his size) I’d say it’s gotta be cutting it close but I’d put my money on the Queen. She’s an active predator and although he’s got several tons of mass she’s overall more lightly built and therefore more maneuverable. Real talk though, at the size we’re talking, if either of them fell it’s probably lethal and neither is likely to walk away from the fight so they’d probably avoid each other like the plague lol

That was indulgent and gentle from you !
Because, usually, such a creatures or characters in a story in science-fiction or fantasy genre, when being unique or part of a very rare cast (here a form of hybrid elephant) usually end up dying in a way or another (and sometime in such not honirific way on top of that).
Not only that a shame and very sad, even if most of the time anything is made or wanted in order that us, readers/watchers, fell sorry for them, but that show how the authors/producers don't care or give a single fuck to their value in many things.
For example, I was personnaly very pissed off in the last 2017 "War for the Planet of the Ape" movie, with the character of Winter, the albino Gorilla, that the producers end up killing by the others protagonists (in such dumb way in addition, by involuntary suffocation), thus he wasn't a bad character at all and who did , it's true, bad things but only by pure fear. Wasn't a bad guy that wanted to hurt the others.
If he wasn't albino, I would say nothing (ok yes, because as a character and due to his personnality he didn't deserved that) but that a shame that such a being, rare, is just eliminated like that.
To a point that it's questonnable why making him albino in the first place instead of a normal gorilla.
Same analysis can be made here for Dukilgun, but you din't decide to made it dying during a battle. Your reconized it's uniqueness and have respected that by leaving it alive and giving him a nice end life.
So, in short, to said, that a very good thing that you didn't fall at all into this shamefull trend/tendency that shouldn't even exist.
And for that, I'm very happy with what you just give us here :)

Heck yeah I was stoked when I stumbled upon it! Song is even titled 'Purple Elephant'. I was sold before the base dropped and that's what sent me haha.
      1. No it ain't lol. Just got a new computer and recorded this and next episode, only to find its built-in mic is garbled. Planning to see if it's a setting issue that I can amend or if I need to invest in an external mic. Don't have time to get into that anytime soon so for now I'm just gunna record on my old computer then edit on the new one. Wild that a 10-year-old computer has the better mic of the two but what can you do.
      2. It's mostly passive. They recognize their distress calls and react accordingly. It's intentional, but also somewhat instinctive/reflexive if that makes sense. As for what they think of each other, they are more scent-based than reliant on sight. By scent they can smell that around 12 million years separates them, considering their last common ancestor was 6 million years ago, so basically are nearly as different from one another as us and chimps. They aren't particularly drawn to one another because of that distance, but do have a general sense of empathy. Only instances of hybrids are when both parents are young and inexperienced. They may look similar to us, but to each other, they look quite different and more importantly, smell extremely different.
      3. A few Arvelith have. Non-natives who don't know how to build a relationship of trust with elephants in their natural habitat have always employed the same methods as human warlords, which means it's always an exploitative relationship and the elephants are never loyal or care much about their handlers. Munarak prioritizing their health and wellbeing while having the education of a lord with the focus and ambition of a conquerer really does set him apart from other peoples who have used elephants in war.
      4. They do keep in touch by sound. Although they don't forage together, as their calls can travel for as many as ten miles, they can keep in contact pretty well. We humans think of a group as being in sight of each other, but for them, their matrilineal herds keep together just over vast distances because aside from zentaur they don't really need protection, whereas mammoth cows for example do need to worry about black sloths and cave lions as potential predators, and since I'm planning to make Homotherium larger, that will also be a bigger problem. Again not so big that a drenduga cow couldn't knock down a pack like a strike at a bowling alley, but enough that they're a threat to all but the largest lone mammoth cow so they have to stick together. In general though, proboscideans have such good senses of smell and their communication network is so widespread that they can detect, anticipate and coordinate responses long before a threat actually arrives, something we don't really have an analogue for before like... telegraph machines to let people many miles away know when an enemy was approaching. Basically every elephant has a short range telegraph system and a scent range of dozens of miles, so they're not nearly as alone as they may seem!
      5. Haha that is a good question! It's going to be covered in detail in my episode on the Africa harvest in September. In brief: it was kinda doomed to fail. The harvest was made in response to the subtropical prairies getting depleted by houze grass, but since most of the herbivores brought from Africa couldn't readily digest the grass, most of them went extinct. Hippos went to the Seridic wetlands and fed on grass there, which wasn't competing with the hydrophobic houze grass, buffalo managed to adapt since they were predisposed to process bulk grasses, zebra (if I include them) are great at digesting tough grass, but most animals like elephants were facing an uphill battle, and even a large bull African elephant is a pretty easy kill for an uktan used to bringing down oliphaunts. It's basically like an entire species of easy-mode oliphaunts.

Continuing my mental fanfic of the witch with the multi species herd of giants. Which Titan species would you suggest if I could only have one for this wondering band of bachelors. Team thus far: 1 Boar Bokodu (Brom), 2 Ghlanos Stalions ( Wells and Irvining), 2 Bosuga Bulls (Jacques and Martin), 1 Drenduga Bull (Tolkien), a young Titan Crow (Dickens), and hiding his nest among the supply hut strapped to the Titan’s back is the Ru Kel (Loki). The witch keeps his herd on the move and avoids large bastions of civilization. He trades with wondering peoples in hides and bones of the mega raptorans his herd has slain for supplies and goodies for his companions.
Brom the Bokodu was the witch’s first companion and used to have a squire named Ichabod. Ichabod was unfortunately lost to the attack of the River Lord, the sailed back Mega Raptoran, and it was this loss that taught the witch that he and his creatures were connected as it hurt the witch to loose one of his herd. He still hates the River Lord and wants revenge on the Mega Raptoran but fears loosing another member of his herd to a threat that can be easily circumvented.

Etymology, naming conventions, languages you use in them, etc. I really like the names given to all the species in Kaimere and I'm asking this to gain a little more knowledge for my own speculative evolutionary endeavours. If you're able to answer this then thank you so much!!! Love your videos!

    • @TalesofKaimere

      Thank you!
For the final project of my linguistics course, my professor assigned us to make a conlang. Basic stuff. Not enough to be a spoken language, but stuff like where in the mouth it was spoken, grammar, sentence structure, etc. Designing Pakardiant was what I picked for my final. Using those notes and the basics for that project, I designed the foundation of the other languages over that summer. Now, nine years later, I basically just refer back to that and expand the vocabulary as needed so they have a consistent vibe.
As far as creatures go, I generally default to the name in the language of the people closest to the given animal, at least within the known world. Drenduga for example is the Qajarith word for them, and I used that since it was a Qajarith-focused history segment. A common tongue/trade language for them is Graga, meaning giant elephant (ga meaning elephant, or more literally a shortening of the sentence 'he has ivory'. Tu denotes something as common, so tuga means common elephant). I could have also used one of the many Arvelith words since the Arvelith of the highlands have several languages, but I defaulted to the Qajarith one for the sake of simplicity. Bosuga is also the Qajarith word for mammoth.
Some of the more iconic creatures of Kaimere have a Pakardiant name because that's what I originally made. Motomazor and kurajaku are, for example, their Pakardiant names, even though the Kurajaku is more common in the tropics/subdropics and motomazor are more common in the Khalin Sea, but I got so used to using the Pakardiant names that they just sort of stuck.

    • @dudotolivier6363
      @dudotolivier6363 Год назад

That depend what was the Elasmarian species harvested at the base.
The Drenduga descend from a Eurasia Ice Age cold dry species and if it survived in the warm tropical and humid part region of its Easternmost range, it's because the direct, close ancestor of its direct ancestor was a species that lived in such climate.
So re-adaptating to this climate wasn't a big deal for the Drenduga.
So, for the Eslamarian, if the ancestors brought on Kaimere were only ones from warm tropical biomes and not from close or in the polar poles, the current species in Modern Kaimere are less likely to fitt in the Highland.

They’ve been found all the way up in Ni’Khari forests and even the houze prairie and the crescent, though almost all are males. Cows almost never leave the Arvelith highlands

Wait i just noticed something - if the steppe mammoth decreased in size to deal with the uneven terrain of the highlands, how come the Drenduga stayed the same size as their ancestors?

Is Munarak partially inspired by Hannibal? I definitely would love to read a whole novel about that war, just for Dukilgun alone.

There was some inspiration there, but not so heavily that I'd say he's Kaimere's version. I would absolutely write that story someday!

    Questions :
1 - Why did you change the Dreduga scientific name ?
There was a problem with "Palaeoloxodon kaimerensis" ?
2 - What "alteregus" species name mean ?
3 - the thumbnail/first picture at the biggining a the video depict a average bull and a bald old specimen together I guess.

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  Год назад +2

      1. For a while there were two species recognized, but as P. alteregus was present earlier, it took precedent when they were lumped.
      2. Mountain king
      3. Yes. Young bulls have better tusks as weapons, while older bulls have superior size and intimidating tusks, so it's not uncommon for an old bull to have a few younger males with him in regions with a lot of zentaur.

Yeah by brand new computer's mic is terrible. Unfortunately I didn't notice until after I had already recorded this and next week's video. Hoping it's a simple fix but until I have time I'm just using my old computer. Hate adding the extra step since my new computer is the one that actually has the space to run the editing software without crashing but hey what's life without a little nonsense

How does the Drenduga understand the Mammoth's language?

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  Год назад

They hear in the same frequency and many learn the words by context (if they regularly smell lions when the mammoths are chatting about lions, they later infer as much and moms teach their young to be wary when they hear those words)

For some reason I am imagining a race of gaints created by the first children as intelligent and connected guardians with traits from Sauropods and Mammoths and a smaller companion race with traits of Pterosaurs, Terror Birds, and deer incorporated. I think I just want a gentle gaint race for some reason.
Perhaps there is even a third or even forth symbiotic race in this racial regiment. A small race that many would consider cute with traits of rats, cats, and bats, and a race with traits of hippos and boars. The intended setup by the first children could be that the gentle gaints are the guardians and commanders, the terror bird/Pterosaur/deer folk are the interceptors and harassers, the cute bat/rat/cat folk are the organic surveillance system, and the hippo/boar folk are the shock troops that may or may not look like orks (hopefully not and some of the more appealing human traits were left in so that they wouldn't be remind them of the "dangerous predators" too much).
