- Shelled cephalopods have a long history in Kaimere, being part of the first harvest, but the ammonites only arrived comparatively recently: ironically being harvested in large quantities right before they went extinct on Earth. Today, however, there are dozens of species in the known world alone, and their story is one of rapid and widespread success.

The eyes of those Kraken Ammonites look like the Sharingan eyes of Itachi Uchiha from Naruto with that shuriken-like pupil. I didn't even know that Ammonites were different from Nautiloids or even know the term Ammonoid until now. Goniatite and Ceratite are also new to me. The way you portray them in Kaimere is excellent and I've always wanted to know about the Krakens.

I really love and like that you have take the time and shown with the Starry Drillfish and the Knotted Drillfish at 4:34 the extreme and important level of diversity the Ammonites have with when it come about their shell !
For the public, 90% of the time when thinking of these marine cephalopods, the first and only think that come in his mind is just a squid inside a reverse snail shell.
However, ammonites don't have only a generic looking gasteropod snail shell type, but had a really diverse selection of shapes, forms and length.
Their a high numerous number of taxa, groups and a fucking amont of species with crazy shell rolled up anyhow and going in all directions, with really crazy forms !
To a point that we can with hard imagine how such animal with such shapes of shell have managed to even survived in the wild since it's difficult to see where the protection is.
But ammonites with shells like the Starry Drillfish and the Knotted Drillfish trully existed in real life on Earth, among plenty others shapes more crazy and inimaginable at first glances. It's not fantasy (which is ironic here of course) and trully were successfull despite their fantasical shapes such this ones.

The invertebrate fauna is slowly being fleshed out and it adds a ton more depth to the already very thoroughly developed world. Also I just realized that there is potential for several cephalopod-centered episodes exploring the different groups that are currently successful.
Hey ! Keenan ! Just in case, here a list of potential candidates of Wild Cattles species and their extinct relatives you can integrate into Kaimere (following your world depiction).
Bovinae (Wild Cattle/Cows) :
- African forest buffalo/Dwarf buffalo (Syncerus caffer nanus),
- Kouprey (Bos sauveli), Saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis),
- Nilgai antelope (Boselaphus tragocamelus),
- Four-horned antelope (Tetracerus quadricornis),
- Tragoportax (extinct),
- Dubois’antilope (Duboisia santeng, extinct),
- Ugandax (extinct),
- Leptobos (extinct),
- an Ice Age European Bison specie (any specific specie. Bisons are very flexible bovids who can lived either in wood or grassland biomes).
Already present : Giant Buffalo (Syncerus antiquus), Auroch (Bos primmigenius), Asiatic water buffalo.
Wild cattles are successfull animals most of the time, even in areas with bigs predators, thank to their horns.
They do very well even in dense tropical forest biomes, where they reveal being as good browers animals (who eat leaves, soft shoots, or fruits of high-growing, generally woody plants such as shrubs) than good grazers.

Because I like a lot to give you list of some animals species that you can put somewhere for later just in case.
Because like that, you have, when you will decide to speak on a specific family (in sme month or years, that doesn't matter), at least already a "base" to work on (and will give you less work at maximum, because these kind of selection and research must be very tiring).

With maybe some populations of both on southernmost Ni'khar forested region.

1 - The First Dynasty (start the Devonian and end with and due to a meteor impact)
2 - The Permian Dynasty (dominated by Permian life and end due to a great volcanic activity)
3 - One short Jurassic Dynasty
4 - Another short Jurassic Dynasty
5 - One short Cretaceous Dynasty
6 - Another short Cretaceous Dynasty
7 - The Tyrants Dynasty (start at the near end of the Cretaceous to almost 15-14.2 mya, ending due to a great volcanic activity)
8 - And Modern Kaimere in some extents (and who has just started currently)

Once you realize the sizes of these shells you also may realize that hermit crabs may be in Kaimere and may grow HUGE to fill the lost shells of the octo-giants or form ant-like colonies or mobs to fill them just 😱

Even more since ammonites and others shelled cephalopods, despite being very well-known and popular, are usually put in paleomedias, documentaries or just fictions, as simple neutral background scenery items who are just here to fill the marine landscape.

1 - Are there the Peregrine (Falcon Falco) peregrinus and the Barn Owl (Tyto alba) birds on Kaimere ?
Because since these two have, litterally, mondial repartition on Earth and are very successfull birds of preys among their respective taxa, and that, technicaly, each recent harvest from different places on earth should have brought waves of population of each of these two species, their genetic diversity must be incredibly high to maintain a good healthy populations.

2 - Are there Horseshoe Crabs species on Kaimere ?
3 - Are there the Naked Mole Rat on Kaimere ?
Random question : if the Leedsichtys giant fish were introduced but have not survived on Modern Kaimere, what about others fishes like Enchodus' family (Enchodontidae), Xiphactinus and Gillicus' family (Ichthyodectidae), or others mesozoic marine animals suc the Archelon and Protostega giants marine turtles family (Protostegidae), and the marine sea crocodiles such the Thalattosuchia (Metriorynchus and Dakosaurus) ?
Because the Tyrant Dynasty Extinction should have made only a minimal impact on the seas when it happen, and only have mainly affect the terrestrial landmass, since this extinction was made by an ashes cloud on the sky. Right ?

Keenan is the type of dude that I can safely surmise definitely says things like, "ooh! Nautilus, I haven't done them yet."
The Tchnanluk, Meadow Kraken and the Dwarf kraken (in some extents) remind me personnally a little of the Dixon's The New Dinosaurs' Kraken (Giganticeras fluitarus), but there any tribute/references/inspiration among the species shown here.
The creature that is the closest to this Dixon one is the Ghost Kraken, a relative of the Horned Kraken, with his tentacle as filter-feeder tools.
Good morning Keenan! Cephalopod is one of my favourite animal of all time. They are more closely related to Snail than to us but their features such as brains, hearts, eyes, body and circulatory system are more like us than to slug even tho they look so alien to us.

1 - Keenan have plans to shown somewhere in the futur the Permian Island and the Permian Continent, but that will be not before a long time since he have others several things to to before.
2 - Except when it's strongly specified, all the videos about a specific group of animals (like deers, sharks etc...) depict only a SELECTION of species present inside the Known World region, and not ALL the total of species (because if so, that will be too long with many distinct species being too similar to be pertinent to depcit them each).
And this selection don't take into account the specie living OUTSIDE this region (there a lot of others giraffoid species like Pronghorns and more giraffes relatives living outside the Known World).
Keenan often integrate and create for Kaimere new species belonging to groups he already made a video on it, even a long time before (like the White-tailed deer).
Some of them, like the Koga Deinotherium are younger than the video about their respective family.
On Objecia, ammonites only are around at a certain area, driven by the more generalized nautiloids to near extinction after the Whale's Rise Mass Extinction, which caused an ice age, causing many organisms that weren't warm-blooded to go extinct. This included the ammonites, as only a few species survived.

It's great to see that many species of ammonites have iridescent shells and several species are bioluminescent like in Prehsitoric Planet (2022) !

Ammonites are one of these animals that you think are relatively simple but hen you discover that they have multiple orders and some really bizzarre forms. Among desings in your video I like the most kraken ammonites- they look really good.

I knew that this video would be extremely intriguing. To think that the ammonites were one of the cephalopods that managed to get successful in Kaimere made me wonder more and more, especially about the Octopus, squids, cuttlefish.... And especially the krakens of Kaimere, not just the known world is interesting, but the entire planet. Although, one huge question was about the Kadanuk, is it the only natural predator of Krakens?
Also, the role of the ammonites as the gills of the oceans and seas does make more sense than meets the eyes, ears and brain, if you catch my meaning. Today's oceans and seas are not as they used to be...
On a final, very important question that was in my brain recently, how large is Kaimere? Like, how larger than Earth, what is the Oceans/Landmasses ratio, how large are the continents and oceans and seas have been on my mind ever since I saw the entire map of that wonderful, dangerous and amazing planet.

To resume, to this day, we have as described species :
- 19 species of ammonites (taking into account the unamed one from the Jul 30, 2021 DeviantArt post picture for the Thoothed Whales episode, in addition to the ones depicted here)
- 3 unamed species of Goniates that managed to survived in the inland sea of Kaishel, the Whale Haven Gulf.
And again, it's just a SELECTION of representatives members of the real total numbers of representatives present in the Known World region, these latter being way more high and must be stunishingly crazy just in this area !
And again again ! It's just about INSIDE the Known World region ! Because, of course, the number OUTSIDE the Known Wolrd and ON ALL the ENTIRE planet must be even more big !
About others cephalopods, we have (again, only about inside the Known World and as some representatives of the real total) :
- 2 specie of Giant Cuttlefishes (Horned Kraken and Ghost kraken, this latter a filter feeder),
- of course several species of normal generic Cuttlefishes species,
- several Squids species with variable sizes (like the Winged Kraken),
- and several species of Octopuses (nromals at least, with possibilities that some giants species exist, after all why not after what we just see here).

Ammonites have always been interesting to me, and it is nice to see them do well in Kaimere.
However, related to the episode, if Nautiloids are considered extinct on Kaimere, then does that mean our modern Nautilus was not harvested/outcompeted, or do they exist but haven't been found by Kaimerans?

I think that's awesome you have ammonites in Kaimere. They're usually portrayed in paleo art as background animals but also the inspiration for Omastar and Omanyte from Pokemon. But I like how they range from small to gigantic krakens. But I bet the Kaimerans eat them in meals like calamari or use the shells to make instruments.

Absolutely
I'm guessing Kaimere is in the same galaxy as us, it's those spirals the ammonites display that make me think so. It is a shame we no longer have these shelled cephalopods on Earth, they're mix of cephalopods and gastropod gives me ultimate mollusc vibes. At least we have krakens to call our own on Earth, in the form of giant and colossal squids.
For me those eyes on Meadow Kraken and Tchnanluk looks like mangekyou sharingan from Naruto and now I can't unsee it.

There have been harvests from planets other then Earth but in majority of those cases the harvested organisms have died immediately upon arrival due to unsuitable conditions or if they live they struggle to establish themselves because the environment on Kaimere has already been modified by the portal in favor of Earth organisms prior to their arrival. To summarize, in the current canon widespread alien life from other planets doesn't exist in Kaimere. There are mostly organisms from Earth and indigenous Kaimerian life concentrated in places like Kaishel and high in the atmosphere, however Keenan hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of some rare beings of alien origin persisting in some corners of the planet.
Question: do trilobites exist on Kaimere?
Possibly. Jury is still out on them
Nautiloid (Nautiloidea) are the last and only extant living relatives of the Ammonoids (Ammonoidea, the true Ammonites) on Earth, and only represented by one single family, Nautilidae, itself represented by only two surviving genus, Nautilus and Allonautilus, but composed by 6 species in total (2 in Allonautilus, and 4 in Nautilus).
They are all found mainly in the South Pacific and Indo-Pacific.
Nautiloid aren't part/members of the Ammonoidea, thus Goniatites (Goniatitida) and Ceratites (Ceratitida) are member of this sub-glass extinct group order.
Goniatites and Ceratites are true ammonites, but the surviving order in Modern Kaimere is the one of the Ammonitida, the type order.
Others orders of the Ammonoidea such Agoniatitida, Clymeniida and Prolecanitida also existed, and obviousely also have been introduced on Kaimere, but don't surived into Modern Kaimere era.
On Earth, Nautiloid appeared and evolved 495 Ma during the Late Cambrian, and survived to the Ammonoidea, who them appeared at 409 Ma during the Devonian period before becoming extinct at th end of the Cretaceous, to this day.
Because of this, they represent litterally what we can called an "extreme survivalist" lineage who have faced strongly all of the darkest and hardest events earth have known.
However, Earth and Kaimere don’t exactly line up in context, with their respectives great extinctions being differents and variable on both planets.
Basically after mass extinctions, there’s a lot of pressure, most go extinct, then their rapid reproduction means one group supplants the rest.
For ammonoids, their shells got increasingly complex and strong so they could live in more varied environs.
As for nautiloids, there’s nothing inherently inferior about them, but they got dominant and specialized so were vulnerable to climate changes that hit before the Tyrant Dynasty and become extinct almost before the beginning of this era.
In short, THE difference between Earth and Kaimere is that after an extinction, the surviving members of the clade (but that work for every clades of organisms living on Kaimere in fact) face the suddent arrival of numerous competitors species from the others clade that was brought by the Portal and they don't survived since they can't adapt as quickly, and the few that manage to adapt to these new arrivals become to specialize in a specific niche, and died after the very next extinction event.
On Earth, since their any wave of animals introduction after each extinction, the number of suriving members in both clades, here Nautiloid and Ammonoids, were almost equal, (with equal strength) and this is why they co-evolved in a way in order that each don't overcompete the other and the two adaptd both to the other.
Like this, the two, on Earth, managed to lived alongside without problems.
So, yes, a shame because Nautiloid and Nautilus species should have been a great addition, but things are like that.

From my understanding yes, it is possible. Cephalopods in particular have a wide range of eye configurations, and something like this that can adjust dramatically alter how much light is let in would be quite useful for an animal that hunts in diverse depths and ranging light sources
If Ammonites are considered almost universally as sacred by Kaimeran and not eaten really often by them who reconized their high importance of maintaining the marine ecosystem proprety, they obviousely however constitute an important food source for many marine and coastal life !

That is the general consensus yes
How did these spies survive the arrival of seals and walruses when the ones on earth could not adapt to their arrival?
Ammonites can fully secure themselves within the shell, whereas nautiloids have a fleshy cap that pinnipeds can easily exploit. The wakatelu is proof that even this defense can be overcome with powerful suction, but it requires an additional level of specialization that non-walrus pinnipeds lack. It is theorized to be the reason for the lack of nautiloids in modern Kaimere.

AFAIK seals were responsible for the extinction of ammonites on earth, given that you have seals and other convergent seal analogues on kaimere I'd expect their presence to be significantly reduced.
The study found pinnipeds to likely be responsible for nautiloid extinction, not ammonoids. Nauteloids are not able to retract into their shell without exposed flesh, which seals can then easily grab. Ammonoids likely did not have this feature. While they also have a shell they are actually closer to squid and nautiloids so they aren’t that good of an analogue.
