I appreciate your channel because you don't say the same 10 things the other save money channels say and you speak to me, a single mom, who needs to find nitty gritty ways of saving money. Many years ago, I saw a hotel use a very cute basket filled with rolled up, small, hand towels instead of paper towels. I purchased 2 packs of inexpensive, white washcloths. I have a larger basket of folded washcloths for drying my hands and a small basket for the used ones in the bathroom. I wash the towels together. I use bleach if someone is feeling ill. I noticed that my family was not sharing colds as much. Think about wiping your hands on the damp hand towel your coughing child just used. Being a school teacher, I know how quickly germs spread. Over the years, I have replenished the washcloths. I use the ones that are not "guest pretty" for my rag bag. I don't keep the rags out for multiple re-use over days. They just go in the washcloth laundry load. Now, I only use paper towels to clean up the litter box or some other possibly infectious mess. I save money on not buying paper towels and on not being ill from sharing a cold.
I love how your sense of humor about certain things is good. You have some very good tips for living frugal. Keep putting your tips out there. They are helpful
You can also use rags as paper towels and napkins, the concept of a cloth napkin. I still use paper towels for some things like greasy messes other messes like that. If you think about using 1 rag rather than 3 (or more) paper towels or napkins for when you eat a day, the savings can be a lot.
Yep, some of the topics you mention were weird. In regard to water uses, I will let the water I boiled eggs in cool and then water my plants. I also collect water from the hot water tap that hasn't gotten hot yet. Depending on where your hot water heater is located, it sometimes takes a while to get hot water. In my situation, my heater is several feet from my hot water tap in the shower. I collect a gallon of water until the water is warm enough for a shower. Thanks for sharing.
Being a senior with incontinence that's a lot of toilet paper per week! So when the toilet paper shortage started in 2020 thanks to COVID-19 , I started using a bidet bottle & cloth wipers. Use different colors for front & back sides. So much $$$ saved! I too use wash cloths for hand drying. Instead of buying plastic or Pyrex storage containers, or Tupperware, I buy Supperware at the grocery store. All those wonderful glass jars that have the added bonus of food in them already! 🤣🤣🤣♻️♻️♻️
Reusing paper towels is a game changer. Even if you don't like the idea of drying hands multiple times, they can be reused to clean up small spills around the house. I keep a stash always.😄 PS-Team cut for toothpaste and lotion. Great video!!
I've watched and read a lot of frugal information over the years, but you are the only creator that has had PRACTICAL tips I've never heard of before. Thank you so much for your work.
I use my dehumidifier water for plants. But cooking in the dishwasher is a hard NO…the temperature doesn’t stay consistent during the cleaning cycle so you aren’t getting it to a certain temp. Food poisoning can kill so I’ll invest in a more convenient and consistent cooking method. With that said, for my family of 2 we don’t use the regular oven and only my large toaster/convection oven for all our baking needs.
I really enjoy your videos. I refill my hand soap containers with inexpensive liquid soap+ sometimes with unused bodywash so it's not wasted. I make my own cleaners most times+ instructions are to use distilled water. I boil my water, let it cool + use it. I often refill my dish liquid + use alcohol + water. I like you will use a paper towel twice if just drying my hands. I cut my own hair without issue. I have paid for several busted hair cuts over the years. Mine cannot look any worse. + it's free.
I cut my own hair. There are many hair cutting videos on youtube, but I have found Brad Mondo to be the best. He's got a great personality and his techniques are very easy. Since I have been doing this, people think I have gone to a salon. Also, for those of you wondering if Dollar Tree hair color is good or not, again, that's all I use. It is just as good as more expensive brands. I have also been complemented on my hair color as well. If you have patience and take your time, you can do your own hair for pennies.
Good to know about the Dollar Tree hair color! I've used allergy medicine and facial masks from Dollar Tree with good results, so I'd be willing to try the hair color. Thanks for sharing!
Another thing you can do is stop coloring your hair completely and embrace your natural color. I colored my hair for year and then all at once I decided to embrace my silver hair. I let the roots grow out about an inch then had my salon cut it in a very short pixie cut since I didn't like the grow out phase. Not for everyone but I loved it and my silver hair gets compliments that my dyed hair never did.
One time I went dumpster diving after Mother's Day and Aldi had thrown out a ton of potted flowers that were dried out. I took them home, watered and cut out the dried parts and they looked great all summer! They just needed some TLC
I have been cutting in half the shampoo/conditioner/hand lotion bottles for years. I also use my lip brush to use the lipstick still in the tube. I get usually another few weeks to a month out of the products. I put the liquid products in plastic containers with really good lids. They stay fresh for as long as there is some left in there. Awesome saving.
Those are good tips! I also use the rest of the foundation makeup in the swivel tube ( like a lipstick) - what savings I've found using the rest of the product, almost a quarter of the tube size.
I use Kirk's bar soap for shampoo which is amazing, and now I don't need conditioner or shampoo. I have naturally curly hair, and it used to dry. Now it's so soft!
I use cloth toilet paper.. I make my own. Only for number one. I also use cloth feminine hygiene. I keep a container for the used tp and then fill it with soap and water to clean them. I also reuse teabags
I use dawn as hand soap and I dilute it about 1 part dawn and 2 parts water. Most people use too much soap (2 or 3 pumps) so this has been working for me for years. I could actually dilute it more because if you think about it dawn is meant to be diluted a lot for dishes. I cut my own hair, I can't say I do the world's best job but most of the time I have it in a ponytail or in a clip so my imperfect cutting doesn't really show. I just can't see paying someone $50+ just to cut it straight across. I'm not opposed to dumpster diving I'm just not in the physical condition to do it. For those who do I recommend goodwill. I used to work there and they throw away tons of good stuff. Mostly just because it needs cleaned. If you do try it be very careful because they throw away dishes so there will be broken glass. During the great toilet paper shortage we used washcloths. When my kids were still in diapers that's what I used so not really a difference. The only time I used wipes is when we went somewhere. I used crushed eggshells and used coffee grounds for my plants. Just found your channel and really enjoyed it. I will be watching more. Thank you for the new ideas.
🩵🩵🩵I am doing some of those like the soap combining it with water and why not? I don’t want too concentrated soap anyways too This is a great channel so much to learn❤️❤️❤️
Here's a weird one for you: If you live in an apartment complex, grab a laundry detergent jug that someone has thrown away. Add some water to it and use it in your laundry. Or stop at the laundromat and grab one and use that.
We set our heater to 55° in the winter, so the pipes don't freeze, have for years, and we wear warm clothing all day and warm night clothes and blankets all night. I am also going to start wearing a hoodie in case my ears or head gets cold, so I can pull up the hood part... I used to make diapers out of old t-shirts, I now use cut-up t-shirts for reusable toilet paper. I cut up toothpaste and other tube's to use the last bits up, because I use the squeezer thing, then cut the toothpaste tube and still get up to 2-5 more days of toothpaste out of that tube. I have dumpster dived and I have also done what I call curb crawling, which is just asking homeowners if I can take things that they have put out next to their trashcans. I also çut my own hair, and add water to bottles of soap, shampoo, etc... I do not save water for plants since my soil won't grow food because of all the walnut trees.
Well done, you must save £££s. l have never tried dumpster diving, too late now as we are in our 70's but we buy new fleece hooded jogging sets every yr in Autumn/Winter to wear indoors. They are incredibly warm & loose enough to layer underneath( with thermal tights for me or mens thermals for him, long sleeve tshirts etc & my hm slipper socks l make for both us us from recycled wool). l make head/ear warmers in soft wool to wear around house/in bed as we dont heat our bedroom for health reasons. We then use the old sets to wear for gardening in Winter in our veg plot.
@frugalcreativeliving we try since we are considered low income. We are not considered poverty level so we don't qualify for any help. Hubby is a disabled vet, I am also disabled, since we can't work at a regular job, we simply do what we can and rest in between as needed. We actually do fairly well as long as the prices don't keep rising...
I’m going to try the pasta water for my plants. As far as the reusable toilet paper, I haven’t tried that, but I could see where one would use that for Pee, and reserve the paper for poop. I don’t think that would be too difficult to launder if it was needed.
Hi, new to your channel. Lots of great frugal ideas. I am an old follower of Kate Kaden but love to hear others take on this very important habit. Happy savings. 😊😊😊
I collect water from my A/C unit. I live in the south, where it is humid . I collect about 15 gallons a day is then used to water trees. I will be saving my pasta water for plants. It is a great idea. I already cut open lotion bottles, est... to get the last bit.
Love your videos, most are a no. I have cut the toothpaste tube. My shampoo bottles when halfway down I fill with with water shake it up and works for me. The cow beef sharing reminded me of seeing that on an old episode of i Love Lucy😁
I wouldn't be fussed to water the plants with dehumidifer water. It's basically just distilled water that will be exactly as clean as you keep your machine. Yall know what the plants grow in right? Dirt. They'll be fine.
#2 could be okay if you use a bidet so you use cloth to dry off. Dumpster diving is good at a florist around holidays, but wear gloves to protect your hands. Imagine a broken vase. Dumpster buying is good. I have put stuff by dumpster the day after trash day, and received.. Your hair looks great I am close to a beauty school
Well, then you're spending a lot of $ on the bidet and whatever water it uses. Do what Indian people do and just pour water from a jar or something to rinse.
I buy the 2 pack of the large Dawn concentrated dishsoap....I add water 3 x when it reaches the halfway point. Saves a lot of money. I can stretch 2 large containers a full year. Just bought my yearly supply last month on Amazon $26.55 for (2) 56 oz - but I get 6 bottles out of it. I use 1 of those bottles every 2 months.
Good video. Too often do I see videos on this topic mention reusable cloth instead of tp - but not dumpster diving (a grabber/hooked stick means you don't need to get in).
Definitely a few weird hacks lol but I'm gonna start cutting open the lotion containers to get the last bit. It'll probably give me a good 4 more uses💯
Thanks for this video. I learned a lot. Some of the tips were-a bit much for me. One of the main reasons I couldn’t dumpster dive is the strong possibility that a rodent is in there diving, too! But I’m with you on the lotion bottles. I chop those suckers in half and get every drop from the bottle.
Always need more shampoo than conditioner. I use hair conditioner to shave my legs. I need very little. It conditions my legs while I shave, no dry skin ever. And I can see what I’m doing.
I’ve read studies that say if the temperature drops a lot the cost to bring the temperature back up eats the savings. My parents did 65 during the day and 63 at night. The other 5 members of my family were fine. Me, no! I used to drag my pillow and blanket into the bathroom and sleep on the heat vent. The floor wasn’t comfortable but at least I wasn’t waking up shaking and chattering my teeth, lol.
BFF is a hairdresser ( manages a higher end shop) so leftover color and great hair cuts…the cost? Babysitting her adorable little dogs when she takes a trip. How lucky can 1 girl get?
There is dumpster diving, which I have done at Flower shops - be careful of broken vases. There is also dumpster bying, i.e. what is by the dumpster. These items are often set out the day after pick-up day intentionally. Soap slivers can be used to make liquid soap or "soap on a rope" using leg 🦵 of panyhose. Reusable TP may work for bidget owner.
I cut the lotion and the toothpaste to get all out. There are some tips sorry but l am not doing but to each their own. I have reused water to water planted and to flush the toliet and plan to continue. 😂❤
1. We hardly use paper towels since we switched to washable rags. WM sells 18 white, cotton, and bleachable washcloths for $6. I use a couple in the kitchen and toss them in the laundry at the end of the day. 2. As for tea, we steep the tea for the recommended time (3-5 minutes)and remove the bag. It's just a matter of minutes before we reuse it. Think about how many cups of coffee you drink every day. We tea drinkers are the same way! That second cup is never far behind. 3. Check the late date section of the bakery. Freeze or reuse as bread pudding or toasted or turned into croutons. Use discounted produce for banana bread, fruit tarts, muffins. Use other veg for baking or cooking when it is wilted or soft. 4. Cooled, boiled egg water is good for plants also. 5. Consider replacing the cow with dried beans. It's cheaper, healthier, and lasts longer without refrigeration costs. And beans don't have to bought all at once, yet comes in bulk size bags of 8, 10, 20 pounds which reduces the per pound price the larger the quantity.
Your "weird " tips are what made me subscribe to your channel! Here is my weird tip: when I hem things, like shirts or pillowcases, I cut up the cast off fabric into pieces and use it as disposable toilet paper (for #1 only). Similarly, I cut up old t-shirts and do the same.
Learn to cut your own hair because I have got my hair cut at salons all my Life and they have always cut more off than what is needed, trust yourself to take care of yourself
I don’t have a dishwasher I hand wash, but one thing I do know you cannot get the water temperature anywhere close to as hot as what a dishwasher does. So the dishwasher does sanitize dishes, much better than handwashing.
Yes... we use cloth towels in my powder room and the main bathroom because everybody can have their own towel to dry their hands on, but in the kitchen, we use paper towels.

I make my own hand foaming soap with dawn dish detergent and water in a foam pump bottle.
How much water?
More than half the bottle (3/4) I would guess you don’t need a lot of soap.
Consider using Castle soap. Dawn is full of toxins.
You can boil an egg in the kettle too. Interesting ideas... lovely channel

Great - and not-your-average - ideas. And you are cute as a button. Subscribed.
Thanks and welcome! 😊
Get a 4 cup tea pot. One teabag makes a full pot of tea.
I cut the lotion and the toothpaste to get all out. There are some tips sorry but l am not doing but to each their own. I have reused water to water planted and to flush the toliet and plan to continue. 😂❤
😂
I have added water to shampoo to stretch it.
So as not to disappoint you - EEEEEWWWW. That said, I enjoy your videos a lot. Have a good week! (P.S. Save the Cows!!)
Thanks a lot for that!😂
Your "weird " tips are what made me subscribe to your channel! Here is my weird tip: when I hem things, like shirts or pillowcases, I cut up the cast off fabric into pieces and use it as disposable toilet paper (for #1 only). Similarly, I cut up old t-shirts and do the same.
That's a good idea! Thanks for subscribing!

Cooking in dishwasher... uh no. Reusable toilet paper... again...nope.
I dye my own hair the dye is much easier than it was when I was a kid
That's true! Fewer steps and safer chemicals!
Never sleep lower heat thanks
Learn to cut your own hair because I have got my hair cut at salons all my
Life and they have always cut more off than what is needed, trust yourself to take care of yourself
Ohhhh not the reusable toilet paper no no
Please just use water to was your butt
My whole family use water
It’s healthy clean and effective
😁
Just having a dish washer is much too lazy for me, come on people why would you. DISH WASHER?????
I don’t have a dishwasher I hand wash, but one thing I do know you cannot get the water temperature anywhere close to as hot as what a dishwasher does.
So the dishwasher does sanitize dishes, much better than handwashing.
That's a good point!
How reuse teabag
My mom always placed it on the lid of a small container, and used it the next time. Or if we were having tea together, we used the same tea bag.
Of all things, I can’t believe you use disposable paper towels. Your hands are as clean as they’re going to safely use a reusable cloth towel.
Yes... we use cloth towels in my powder room and the main bathroom because everybody can have their own towel to dry their hands on, but in the kitchen, we use paper towels.
